RP: Rule the world or destroy it?
Who: Gwenog Jones, Pansy Parkinson
What: A chance meeting
Where: Wingbeat, LGBTQ+ night
When: Thursday 2nd October, Night.
Rating: TBC, currently SFW

Gwenog had heard that the club on Monument Alley had started a Queer night and been pleasantly surprised. She knew the wizarding world could sometimes be a bit behind the times about some things. Still, given that the previous week's game had been on Friday she really couldn't have gone. Since she wasn't playing until Saturday this week she pulled on a pair of tight jeans, sleeveless t-shirt which hung just enough to be clingy and her trusty dragonhide boots. She had grabbed her jacket, wand and money and glanced in a mirror quickly, apparating from her flat to the club with a pleased smirk.

It was some time later now, her jacket was in the cloakroom and she'd danced randomly with a few people for a while, nobody quite catching her eyes. Until she was feeling sweaty enough that a drink was in order. She headed for the bar, moving a few people out of the way with a quelling look, some she simply dodged around. Having acquired her butterbeer she moved away, knowing she wasn't likely to find a seat she still headed for the tall tables with fixed stools near the bar. She might get lucky. She might just persuade someone to move.

Gwenog sipped from her butterbeer as she waited for a response, when it came she stiffened. The Wizarding world was generally somewhat more tolerant of queer identities than the muggle one, but it wasn't a hard and fast thing. Plus a lot of it was a hidden-in-corners type deal until more recently. There were always places to be found but it hadn't been so obvious. She couldn't quite place where Pansy was coming from.

The second part of her comment though calmed the towering head of steam building up with in her somewhat. She took a calming breath and narrowed her eyes at Pansy.

"Don't call it a trend. These are people's lives. I'm all for positive promotion of queer issues, fuck, even if it's just for your own gain, but don't screw the people over or call them a trend," she said. She didn't bother to shout more than was necessary to be heard over the music.

She glanced at the poster, having seen it before. "Tonight's mostly what you'd expect when you come to a club. Music, drinking, flirting, dancing that might look like sex standing up. Just less chance of getting hexed for hitting on the wrong person. Plus there's the whole sense of community thing," she said. "Not exactly difficult." She didn't go in so much for the community herself, although she certainly appreciated it from time to time.

Pansy was completely unaware that she'd made any sort of misstep, and didn't see the big deal on calling this lifestyle a trend. Trends were good, and when used correctly built up positive brand recognition and were a force for positive social change. If being queer became seen as a good thing, wouldn't that benefit the people who identified as one of those many letters? In Pansy's opinion there was a good business opportunity to be had.

She decided not to voice any of this to Gwenog; she didn't think the other woman would see it quite that way. She did tuck away the advice to not call the people themselves a trend. That could be helpful at a later date.

"The sense of community. That seems to be important," she commented, taking another look around.

Giving a little shrug as she sipped her beer Gwenog made a 'so-so' sort of gesture. "Depends who you are. Some people are rejected by their families because of their sexuality, particularly if they've got a muggle or muggleborn parent. It's good for them to know someone in similar situations, or just people who accept them for who they are. And like I said some people really don't take kindly to being hit on by people of their own gender, somewhere like this you're pretty safe," she said.

A small group of men and women screaming with laughter made their way past them and onto the dance floor and she sneered at them. "Plus shit like knowing and being proud of who you are, knowing your people." She shrugged again. "I'm just an older, slightly jaded, slightly horny stereotype these days, but I gave up giving much of a fuck about that years ago." Well the stereotype bit at least, she was less impressed by being seen as old by some people.

In Pansy's opinion there were a lot more valid reasons for a family rejecting someone than who they liked to fuck. Being a Gryffindor, for example, should be a dis-inheritable offense. This was yet more reasons that Muggles were a lower life-form, but she didn't voice that opinion aloud. She had learned subtlety over the years.

"Thank you. You've provided some very interesting information on this evening, and this lifestyle in general," Pansy said, completely unaware that some people may not appreciate being dismissed as a lifestyle. "Now, I shouldn't want to keep you from enjoying yourself, and I have an early morning." She finished her drink, and gave the woman a smile. "I'll see you around."

Gwenog nodded to Pansy, smiling slightly and tipping her beer bottle towards her. "I try. I wouldn't use lifestyle though," she suggested just about loud enough to hear, slouching back on her stool to survey the room as she finished her drink. "See you around." Gotta love watching a woman in a tight dress leave she thought, just as someone sidled up to her from the side, splitting her attention.
