Birthday Ambush
Who: Seamus and Dean
What: Birthday presents!
Where: Dean's flat
When: Saturday morning, 9.30ish
Rating: SFW

With a barely audible 'pop', Seamus apparated into Dean's flat, laden with presents. As he put his wand away and redistributed the wrapped parcels, he began to sing. "Happy birthday to you." He looked around the living room - no Dean, nor in the kitchen. "Happy birthday to you." The bathroom door was closed, so that only left the bedroom. Padding in, he spotted Dean still in bed but with his eyes open. He grinned. "Happy birthday dear Deano. Happy birthday to you." Seamus kicked off his shoes and dropped the less fragile of the presents on top of Dean's stretched out frame. After placing the largest present on the bedside table, he slid under the covers - jeans and t-shirt and all.

"Morning birthday boy. Arm coming around your shoulders... now," he warned as he suited the action to the words and squeezed Dean's shoulder. With his free hand he pulled the presents into his lap. "What do you want to open first? Serious gift, comedy gift or edible gift?"

Normally Dean was either an early riser or terrible sleeper, but between a late night exchanging owls with Susan and the fact it was his birthday he'd woken and dozed off again a few times already. He hadn't been sure if he'd get a morning visitor, but Seamus did sometimes drag himself up early enough for Dean's birthday morning. The soft strains of Happy Birthday through his bedroom door roused him again and he smiled, shuffling himself over from his across the bed sprawl, waiting for the door to open.

"Thanks, mate," he said, his face spreading into a grin as Seamus slotted himself into his bed without so much as a by-your-leave. Dean examined the various presents with a considering squint of his eyes and said, "Edible, I think." He pushed himself up a bit so he could move more easily and held out his hands politely, wondering which of the gifts he would be presented with.

"Edible it is." Seamus could have simply unhooked his arm from around Dean's shoulders and reached for the present on the bedside table with both hands - but he didn't. Instead, he wriggled around until he'd got his wand out of his jeans pocket and levitated the large jar of Fizzing Whizbees over into Dean's waiting hands.

The present had been such an awkward shape to wrap that Seamus had given up half-way. The regular round bit of the jar was covered in red paper but the top was visible. "How's the family?" he asked while he watched Dean considering his gift.

Dean took hold of the package and looked at the top which sort of gave away what it was, but he still obligingly shook it gently before rolling his eyes and ripping the paper off. "Excellent, I'd have one now but I don't think floating in the bed is the way to go."

He pulled his own wand from beneath his pillow and levitated the jar onto the floor so he didn't drop it. "Oh, you know my family, pretty cheery. Cat and Jess were pleased about us taking them for dinner, and I got hugged to death by basically everyone. Also they took me to this great new restaurant somebody from Aunt Rose's church discovered. Ethiopian food, I couldn't pronounce a thing on the menu but it all tasted great."

Seamus chuckled at the image of Dean floating up - probably taking the covers with him. Possibly taking Seamus with him too... Was that how it worked? "You reckon if you ate two that would be enough magic to lift us both, or would the magic not work on me unless I ate one? Would I be heavy enough to keep you from floating? How have we never tested these things?"

Instead of giving Dean a choice as to his next present, Seamus pushed the comedy apron into his lap. He figured it was probably best to sandwich the present that was likely to make Dean roll his eyes in between the two presents he'd actually like. "Your family and their exotic eating habits," he grumbled, already wondering where they were going to take Jess and Cat. His own family could be easily satisfied with a roast, pizza or - at their most adventurous - a curry.

"I think the magic works when you eat them, so we'd both have to eat 'em, but I don't know how we've never tried that before. After presents?" he he said, deeply curious about the possible results. Dean had been taken with the sweets ever since he got his hands on them as a third year in the wonders of Honeydukes and although he didn't buy them often they were often fun to eat just for the floating effect, never mind the flavour.

Dean examined the flat and rather floppy package with bemusement, unsure what the heck Seamus would get him that would look and feel like that. He shot his eyes towards Seamus and shrugged, tearing open the paper in a flurry of crinkles and rips, managing to shake open the apron in the process. He snorted with laughter and elbowed Seamus in the side. "Prat," he said. "My family will eat pretty much anything, from pizza to vindaloo, stop stressing about the sisters, they're just looking forward to free food out of the house." He knew what Seamus was like, he could tell where his thoughts had likely headed. "And your sparkling company, of course."

"Probably because you always hog them," Seamus teased, though it was far from true. Dean and Seamus had always shared basically everything they bought from Honeydukes or Zonko's.

Seamus couldn't help bursting into laughter as Dean examined his present. "Come on," he said, catching his breath, "it's perfect!" He tightened his hold on Dean, leaning against him as he recovered. Under the covers, his free hand found the scar on Dean's stomach where he'd once burned himself on a backing tray. "I'm only looking out for you. Don't want this happening again."

He nodded, though he still wanted to show Dean's sisters a good time, not just take them out for some lacklustre meal. He'd find someone. Maybe someone on the journals would have a good recommendation. "Last one," he said, hand returning to over the covers to offer Dean the wrapped box containing his 'serious' present - a set of food dice for inspiration in cooking. "Though there is something else later. Not exactly a present."

Dean jumped and squirmed slightly at the sudden hand on his stomach but just rolled his eyes. It had admittedly been a stupid thing to do, but insomniac baking wasn't exactly normal either so it never bothered him. At least he never cooked completely naked, that was just asking for trouble. "Yeah, I know. It was only an inch too far, but I'll put it on, it'll amuse everyone if I fall asleep and you mount a rescue mission again!"

He opened the last present, curious about the rattle it had made as he shook it. The box housing the jar only increased his curiosity. "Oh! Awesome!" he said, as he read the tag on the jar and peered at the dice to see what ingredients he could see. "Very cool, although maybe dangerous for my randomness," he said, flicking the jar away, and squeezed Seamus in a hug.

Seamus patted Dean's hand in mild apology for making him jump, but watched eagerly as he opened his present. The way his eyes lit up as he realised what it was was entirely worth the hours spent trying to figure out what he was going to get this year. "You know I'll try anything you make," he said, hugging Dean back before checking the time. They still had a little while before they needed to be at Finnigan's for Battlescars.

Once Seamus was awake, he was awake for good so he wriggled back out of Dean's bed and held out a hand. "Just time to try those Fizzing Whizbees."
