Q-Topia
I am Romeo Matías García-Davies. Some of you may know me from our time together at Hogwarts. Some may know me from my job cooking at Finnigan's. Some may not know me at all.

I am queer.

If I had to define my gender, I would call myself somewhere between gender fluid and gender neutral. I look like what society would categorize as "a boy", but I do not feel like one. Nor do I feel like a girl. I am floating somewhere comfortable in the middle, a metaphoric foot in the male camp because of my presentation, but the rest of my being gloriously free of the gender binary imposed upon us by society.

If I had to define my sexuality, I would call myself definitely pan...something. I don't see gender as a barrier to love or attraction. With that said I don't necessarily know if I am pansexual... perhaps I am simply panromantic and asexual.

So that is me.

I know there are other people out there who, like me, don't conform to the neat little boxes the world would like to put us in. Maybe you don't fit the gender binary. Maybe you aren't neatly heterosexual. I would like to start a group for all of us to gather, support each other, and talk about the particular issues we face. This is not your school-era Gay-Straight Alliance. This is a utopia. A Queer-topia, if you will. And it is coming soon, if there is enough interest.

(You can make your replies private to me if you are nervous/cautious/not out.)

Oh my friend, queer comes in all the flavors under the sun. What is it that they say? You must taste the rainbow!

For now I am thinking that we will meet at Finnigan's. I work there, and there is a room we can use for ourselves. Not the main room, with the bar, but a quieter one away from the main flow of traffic.

Hahaha. I think these meetings might require Skittles in bulk.

Are you the new chef person? Yeah, I knew they were looking for someone. That's cool. I wish I could cook food.

Quieter away from the alcohol traffic sounds like a good idea. It'll be nice to be able to hear each other talk.

Skittles, perhaps. I was planning on providing refreshments. I thought little bite sized tacos and empanadas? But Skittles are good too - it's nice to have a range of flavors.

I am indeed. Cooking is not such a big deal when you have learned it all your life, as I have. I have been "cooking" in some way shape or form since I was three.

I am planning on making this group a "safe space". What that means is that cisgender, heterosexual people will be asked not to come. It is nice, of course, to have allies, but there are times when queer people simply need to be with each other, away from those that simply cannot understand the paths we walk.

How about this - you cook the tacos and empanadas, I'll cook the Skittles.

Most of what I call cooking is just melting cheese on stuff.

And yeah, I get that. I'm usually too queer or not queer enough for most conversations about stuff like that. Not everyone gets it, you know?

It sounds like an excellent deal, my friend. Perhaps we will strike it lucky and find someone who would like to cook us the drinks?

If you are interested in learning to cook, I am also planning on holding cooking lessons at some point. More details as they become available!

I think there is a time and a place for allies. I absolutely appreciate that they support us and love us regardless of our differences. But then when I am talking about the way I was jumped when walking down a dark alley, or other issues that we face, I don't like being spoken over by allies who have never experienced the kind of oppression I have faced, or who have never been derided for who they are the way I have. Sometimes it's nice to just... get away from them and have our own conversations.
