Rose tightened her arms around Dennis as he sobbed, burying her face in his neck to offer any kind of comfort in the hope of possibly making just a small part of his hurt going away. “Shh,” she soothed, or tried to at least, because as much as it hurt her to see Dennis like this, she knew it had to be hurting him even more.
“You’re not a failure,” she tried, immediately shushing when she felt him about to object. “To me, you’re not a failure,” she amended, because at least from there they could maybe work towards something better, not unlike starting the puzzle of breaking down a Curse. “What happened?” she asked him. As far as she had understood, Dennis was going to a cuddle fest at Finnigan’s, which to her had sounded as comforting and pleasant as anything she could think of, and by no means like anything that could break down Dennis – her big strong Dennis – like this.
