First Day at Work
Who: Greg and Harry. Still open to others later in the day!
What: His first day working at WWW
Where: WWW, Diagon Alley
When: Before lunch
Rating: NSFW - Grumpy Goyle's internal monologue is a bit sweary.

So far, Greg hated Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. He hated that the wards had bounced him out when he'd tried to apparate directly into the shop, he hated the stupid bright pink uniform that didn't fucking fit properly across the shoulders, he hated the customers and most of all he hated the cash machine that kept trying to bite his fingers off. He was lucky that his natural expression was moody or else his anger would have been plain for anyone to see. As it was, it was all he could do to keep a civil tongue in his head and keep reminding himself that he couldn't just walk out and go home. If he'd had to try to smile through it all, he might have exploded.

"No," he said, for what felt like the tenth time already that day. "The effects aren't permanent. None of the effects are permanent." Did this idiotic woman really think Weasley would be allowed to sell his 'Canary Creams' and 'Headless Hats' if the effects were permanent? He glowered at his would-be customer until she dragged her son away to look at something on the other side of the shop. Goyle huffed out a sigh of relief - and then bit back a groan as he heard the front door open. Now what?

Harry hated that he agreed with Goyle. Most days he didn't find his job fun either. Satisfying, frustrating and depressing, sure it was all those things, but very rarely was it fun. But there was no way Harry was going to let Goyle know he commiserated, even a little. Besides, Goyle was working in a joke shop. If there was ever a workplace that was supposed to be fun, it was this one.

"Your job, as you should know, involves making sales to customers. You can hardly do that if they're afraid to talk to you, Goyle." His eyes narrowed. "Unless that's your plan here. Sabotage George's business by being an asshole." Plenty of people had accused Harry of being paranoid, but it wasn't paranoia if they were truly out to get you. Though he didn't actually think that's why Goyle was here.

"You're not afraid to talk to me," Greg pointed out after considering Harry's words for a few minutes. "She wasn't afraid to talk to me." He gestured at the woman, still apparently trying to decide whether a yellow puff or a black one was 'cuter'. No one was afraid to talk to him and he'd made a few sales already, when George had been busy. He might not fully understand yet why his mother had insisted he get a job, let alone a job in Monument or Diagon Alley, but he had done what she told him to do and he wasn't going to muck it up now.

He frowned, dark eyebrows drawing down over his eyes. "Why would I do that?" Then he'd have to find another job. Ron Weasley had been annoying, and Greg so far didn't think much of George but that didn't mean he wanted to sabotage the shop. That just seemed like a waste of energy. He gave up trying to follow Potter's logic, his expression clearing a little. "I needed a job." It really was as simple as that.

"I'm not most people," Harry pointed out. He looked over at the woman making a choice between the pygmy puffs. "Maybe not, but she's also on the opposite side of the shop from you, after you snapped at her. There's probably a correlation there." Though it was also possible he was over-reacting, not that he'd admit that to Goyle.

Harry could feel the tips of his ears burn, and willed away the blush. He wasn't going to apologize for jumping to conclusions, and hopefully Goyle was too dim to notice Harry's momentary embarrassment for the accusation. "Well, I hope you keep in mind that you could easily be in need of a job again," Harry said, though he thought he'd lost most of his authority by this point.

Greg grunted. Draco had always been convinced that Potter thought too much of himself, and here he was going on about how he was better than other people. Greg levelled him with a glare, conveying without words that he wasn't that impressed by Harry Potter, whether he'd defeated Voldemort or not. "She's on the other side of the shop looking at pygmy puffs," he said. "That's where the pygmy puffs are." Greg was not going to take responsibility for this. Not when she was obviously still intending to make a purchase. "I answered her question, that's all." And that was probably more words than Greg had ever exchanged with Harry Potter before today.

"Yeah," he said, though it was barely clear enough to count as a word. Yeah, he could need a job again and if he did he'd find one, or Pansy or Draco would find one for him. Greg was beginning to feel that this conversation had dragged on entirely too long. "Are you going to buy anything?" Though the words were blunt, his tone was not rude. Not that his tone was every exactly friendly.

Harry decided that he'd dug himself into a hole on this one, and decided to let the matter drop. The truth was, the woman didn't actually seem scathed at all by Goyle's terse response, and was happily nattering on at her son and the chosen pygmy puffs. But he still would stand by his assertion that Goyle could be nicer to the customers, and would eventually chase a good number off simply by being, well, him.

"No, I just came in to check on things. Maybe say hello to George." He made it clear that by things he'd meant Goyle. Even someone of Goyle's questionable intelligence could cypher that out. "I drop in here from time to time. Whenever I have a moment, actually." It would be good that Goyle keep that in mind.

Greg crossed his arms across his chest, wishing Draco or Pansy were here with him. They'd have known exactly the right thing to say about Potter apparently dropping in 'whenever he had a moment'. They would have been able to make Potter feel stupid, but all Greg could do was glare at him and hope he'd go away soon. If he'd even tried, Potter would probably report him to Weasley and then Greg really would need a new job.

"Mr Weasley is in the back room," he said, gesturing with one large hand before returning it to its previous position. If Potter was going to be showing up all the time, this job was going to be even worse than Greg had thought.

Harry was not going to be intimidated by Goyle, even if he was all tall and muscley. Harry had years of Auror training on his side, and he was one of the best in the department. So he just stared back at Goyle, refusing to back down.

"Well, I'll just go back and say hello then." He gave Goyle one last look, one that let him know he'd be watching him very carefully. "I think she's ready to check out." He gestured to the lady and the pygmy puffs, who was standing impatiently at the till. "It's not good to keep customers waiting."

With that, he headed out back to say hello to George.
