RP: Operation Cheer Up
Who: Rolf and Dennis

What: Rolf wants to cheer Dennis up

Where: Dennis and Rose’s flat

When: After work, Saturday

Rating: SFW to start with at least

Rolf knew that Dennis had been down a lot lately, and the mention of hugs in the journal the other day made him think that he really should do something to perk his friend up, if he could. They hadn’t seen each other in a while, schedules being what they were, but that would have to change. He planned on spending more time with Rose and with Dennis if he could, despite being busy with the shop. He needed a good assistant, that was all there was to it. They were incredibly important to him and he couldn’t fall down on taking time for them.

His mind once again attempted to stray to thinking about Rosie – it was hard not to, lately, given that he seemed to be discovering feelings he thought he’d not had since they’d first met, so many years ago now. It wasn’t that he was denying them, though, but he needed time to think on them before he did something idiotic and ruined their friendship, which was the deepest one he had and incredibly precious to him.

He had a bag over his arm, with a few things in it to cheer Dennis up. A few were from the box he always kept, where he stored away things he bought in his travels for specific people to give them when he wanted to give them something really nice. There also were cookies and some sweets and other things he knew Dennis to like. Thus armed, he Apparated into the flat, feeling the wards wash over him and recognize him. It made him smile, that he was trusted to just come right on in.

“Hellllooooo,” he called out.

Dennis shook his head defiantly. "I've been busy, you've been busy, Rose's been off having a fat man fall on her. It's none of our faults that we've been a bit shit at seeing one another." In a way, it'd been good that he'd moved in just a week before Rose went on mission. It'd given him time to settle in and to get over the worse of his sadness before having to deal with people outside of work again.

"Oh, Rolf," he replied, smiling properly at the deeply protective look on his friends face. He knew that Rolf could be a bit of a spitfire when it came to his friends. "That would be," he paused and made a face, because even though he knew it probably wasn't right, he nevertheless loved the idea. "That would be both awesome and horrible at the same time actually."

He allowed himself to be tugged onto the couch, where he collapsed bonelessly on top of the other man, who laughed breathlessly at him. "What did you bring, anyway," he asked, feeling some of the old cheekiness returning.

The description of Rose's accident in Peru made Rolf sputter with amusement. "Elbows are bad, beware the elbows," he muttered, the corner of his mouth lifting up slightly, both fond and amused. "Still. I'll be better at it." Their disparate schedules had been hard up on each other lately, though. They'd figure it out, and until then, they were used to keeping up by writing.

"I make no promises if I ever run into either of them," he said, frowning. Especially if they said anything to him. He'd always made it clear that he and Dennis were just friends, and always had been just that, but it hadn't kept words from having been said when Dennis wasn't around. Rolf had never made waves about it, it wasn't his way, after all; he was all for noninterference like that unless something obviously needed to be dealt with. He'd been as shocked as Dennis at the affair that had been going on.

Rolf ooomphed, knowing he should have expected Dennis to plop on top of him. Somehow he always forgot. "We're going to have to have that breathing conversation again, aren't we," he said, breathless. It was a running thing with him, especially since Dennis was almost his height. He handed Dennis the bag of gifts and goodies, pushing at him slightly so he could get a decent breath. "Some souvenirs from travel, some nommy things, a little alcohol, so on and so on," he said.

Dennis snorted with laugher in response to Rolf's own. "Poor Ro, the hubris of elbows laid forth against rib and chest," he said, adopting a theatrical tone. He was already feeling better and was grateful to Rolf for that fact. "Since it is bothering you, I'll make sure to come see you more," he added, with a grin.

"Well I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if they were, oh I don't know, mauled by something in a freak accident? Just a little mind." He felt his smile falter slightly, there'd always been a certain amount of jealousy from Paden about Rolf and Seamus and the rest of the men in Dennis' life who'd appointed themselves stand-in brothers following... After the Battle. Of course Paden had never had anything to worry about, Dennis had only had eyes for him. Shaking his head he forced himself away from that line of thought, and smiled at his friend.

Dennis took a moment to nuzzle into Rolf's neck before obligingly moving off him enough to let him breath. Laying on top of people was a leftover of the fact that he'd been 5'3 until around his fifteenth birthday, before he'd suddenly and inexplicably experienced a rather spectacular and late two year growth spurt. "Oooh," he said, opening the bag to reveal a fountain of wonders. A set of self-folding origami, a couple of intriguing looking card games, a scarf, and a delicate looking box fell onto his lap, as did some alcohol and food. "What's in the box," he asked.

"Hmmm. I'll see what I can do while still having a fabulous alibi," he said solemnly, though a faint grin hovered at the corners of his lips. Anything for his friends, and though some might say it was extreme for a Hufflepuff, well, it was still Hufflepuffian... and honestly he'd never bought the utter division the House system seemed to create. He'd had friends in every House in school, even with the politics that had been going on at the time.

Rolf squirmed faintly, chuckling. "Ticklesssss," he mock-whined. He'd learned long ago to take Dennis' affection as it was, for the man had never pushed anything and so he took it for what it was worth. He was general an affection hungry person anyway, having not received a lot growing up. He gave it easily, though. While Dennis started digging through the bag, Rolf worked on messing up his hair just on general principles of fun, especially since how he was pushed into the couch it gave him a good angle at it.

"You could open it and see," Rolf said, poking his friend in the ribs lightly. He always put a good bit of thought into his gifts. But he plucked up the box from Dennis' lap, long fingers manipulating it slightly so that the side popped out. He gently plucked out the figurine within, which grew slightly as he did so, though it remained small but very detailed. The amber lion stayed still for a moment, but then Rolf ran a gentle finger down its back and it stretched, yawning and showing pristine, delicate fangs. It was a work of art.

The moment he'd seen it, he'd wanted it for Dennis. He'd haggled with the ancient African witch for weeks for it, going to her place nearly every day to do so before they finally reached a price they'd both been satisfied upon. "I saw it and it wanted to be yours," he said, holding it out carefully to Dennis, hoping he'd like it.

Dennis grinned evilly. "We know Law Enforcement types, I'm sure one can be tailored to fit if needs be." To be honest, the wildly overprotective side of Rolf was one of his favourites. That and his killer abs, of course Rose's voice seemed to echo in his head. He paused and sighed, wondering what cursed item he'd touched this time.

He focused on un-mussing his hair as Rolf delicately worked spelled clockwork mechanism of the box to open it. He gasped as he was handed a perfectly carved lion made out of Amber, charmed to life. "Godric and Rowena, Rolf. This is the most beautiful thing anyone's ever given me." He pulled his head into a tight hug, feeling fresh tears prick his eyes, this time of gratitude. "Thank you so so much," he breathed at last, breaking the hug to look at his lion with wide eyes. "Where in the world did you get it?"

"Yes, well, I don't like to take advantage," Rolf said. Rolf was, on the whole, a good boy, who rarely broke rules. Bending, now, sometimes, but on the whole he really was a good one. "But for the cause, I think I can make an exception."

Rolf hugged him back, very pleased his gift was well received. "So glad you like it," he said. He kept an arm loosely around Dennis, lounging comfortably. "I found it in Africa. This ancient little African witch does them. I don't know where she got the amber, but she worked it better than anyone I've ever seen, and all her figurines were animated." And she charged a worthy price for them. "This was when I was in the Serengeti, studying several different things. I thought I'd save it for Christmas, but now seemed like a better time."

Dennis snorted and nipped his friend quickly on the neck. "I know, I know, you're a good boy like that, which is something that makes you so devastatingly hot to everyone except me apparently," he remarked, thinking of the rather confused and drunken conversation he'd had with Rose about spoons and ladles and Susan. He grinned and slapped Rolf on his uninjured side. "Exceptions are awesome Scamander. I'm all about exceptions."

"I'd like anything you got me, Sal," he said, snuggling closer into his friends side. "I can't wait to visit Africa," he said, his eyes going dreamy. "I want to go to Tunisia, and Egypt, and Burundi, and Mozambique, and Madagascar, and..." he stopped and laughed at Rolf's dopey expression. "Thank you, it's definitely cheered me up." He reached across and kissed Rolf on the cheek.

Rolf made an amusing squawking sound as he was nipped. But then the words sunk in, and he blinked owlishly at Dennis. "Huh?" he said, having no real idea that perhaps a bunch of people found him hot. So instead of following that somewhat confusing line of thought, he went with the humorous route. "You don't find me devastatingly hot? I'm wounded, wounded!" he declared with over the top dramatics meant o detract from the fact he didn't understand how they could put him in that catagory anyway. He'd never been good at accepting compliments; it was, perhaps, all his early years spent with parents who rarely ever doled them out. He grinned and buffed Dennis on the shoulder. "Just kidding."

He smiled. "You'll have a grand time visiting all those places, I know you will," he said. Dennis would have a good time almost anywhere, though, and he hoped to be able to point him to places he'd especially enjoy. He grinned. "Good. Cheering up was the plan, and it is succeeding!"

Dennis laughed at the slightly shocked expression on his friend’s face. “Yes, you. Everyone finds you hot, Cal. You’re six foot three of lean delicious handsomeness.” He stuck his tongue out and then grinned impishly. “I’m sorry darling, but I don’t,” he said with mock gravity, before tilting his head and considering. “Well I mean I appreciate that you’re hot, and if I didn’t think you and Rosie would be perfect, you’re probably someone I would try to get with but you know…” He laughed easily, hoping his Gryffindor candour wouldn’t go down too badly.

“I know I will,” Dennis grinned. “Especially if I accidentally drag you and Rose with me,” he stuck his tongue out, not really expecting an answer. “I’m glad you’re here, Cal. I miss you when you’re gone.” He laid his head on Rolf’s shoulders, then after several moments of hugging, began tickling him. “SO I CAN TICKLE YOU!”

Rolf faux-swooned back onto the couch, going into very dramatic, fake histrionics. "Oh noes! Oh woes! I am wounded, wounded!" He peeked at Dennis through his fingers at Dennis and winked, laughing to show just how kidding he was. It also worked as a cover to try to hide his reaction over the comment about Rose; he'd not had nearly enough time to process his recent revelation and work out if Rose would ever even be interested.

"Oh what woe, being dragged on an awesome trip with friends," he said wryly, grinning. Rolf pet Dennis' his head again, unable to help the urge. He would never admit to the surprised shriek that Dennis got out of him when he suddenly started tickling him, and he lurched to where he nearly fell off the couch as he started to laugh. "Noooooo. Nooooooo, not the ticklessssss!"

Dennis snorted at Rolf's rather obvious display of theatrics. "Yes loverboy, you're very wounding. I mean wounded. Yes, wounded is what I meant." He stuck his tongue out at his friend, feeling infinitely better.

He assumed a sombre expression. "Yes I'm afraid you may just have to grin and bare it. Or take a bear with you? Something. Be bare with a bear?" His distraction work, and the noise that Rolf made was one of the most beautiful things he'd ever heard. "Yesss, the ticklessssssss!"

Rolf snorted and rolled his eyes at the horribly mangling of the various words 'bear.' But he was definitely distracted from saying smething about that when he was tickled, and he slapped ineffectually at Dennis' hands. "Nooooo. No, no tickles! Dennnissss! Nooooo!"

Laughing now, Dennis gathered Rolf back up into his arms and smiled. There really was something to be said for friends who would come 'round and cheer you up. "Thank you, Cal. You're my favourite."

Rolf petted his hair again, catching his breath from laughing. "But if course, Dennis. You're the best." He would always be there for his friends. It was how he was made. It was what got him sorted into Hufflepuff, that loving loyalty.
