RP: Evening at the shop
Who: Cormac & Emma
What: Emma does some shopping.
Where: McLaggen's Magical Sports
When: Tuesday 10/6/05 (evening)
Rating: Gen

The day had seen a light rain settle over Monument Alley so rather than leave in the afternoon while the shop was closed, Cormac had stayed in and worked on his accounting books, telling himself again that he needed to hire someone who knew how to do this sort of thing.

At 3 he opened the shop again and spent an hour or so putting out new merchandise - there was a new set of pink Harpies items to get at the younger girls - and eventually looked up when the bell at the door rang. "Welcome," he said over his shoulder before grabbing his box and bringing it out back quickly and then heading back out on to the floor to be helpful.

Since she was living with her parents once again, Emma didn't really find as much joy in simply lazing about the house during her time off work. She tried to fill her free time the best she could and since it was now October she felt like she could get a good start on her Christmas shopping.

Or, more importantly, compiling her own Christmas wish list.

This meant a bit of window shopping so that she could see what she might want. McLaggen's Magical Sports was as good a place to look as any, especially as she quite fancied getting herself a few of the Falcons' new season bits and pieces.

"Hiya," she chirped, making sure that her umbrella was fully closed before she stepped inside. Though her wand was in the pocket of her coat, it still managed to dry the umbrella completely when she tapped the handle against it. "Bit drizzly out there today, isn't it?"

"Fall in London," he sighed. Cormac was a sunshine fan, and cold weather was only any good on days he could stay in bed with Lavender. "What are you doing out and about it in? Looking for some games to stay busy this Winter?" He indicated the indoor games section with a raised eyebrow.

"Killing some time by looking at pretty things. And shopping." Emma hooked the curved handle of her umbrella over her elbow. She looked over at the games and wrinkled her nose. "Only if someone's created a version of indoor Quidditch that's actually good." Looking hopeful, she added, "Or have they?"

Cormac laughed, "No, but I have to say you're a customer after my own heart. Who's your team?" He lead her to the Quiddith fans section - separate from the brooms and real equipment - and started thinking what she may need or want.

"I'm a Prides fan myself," he said, and then turned, "Sorry, Cormac McLaggen, welcome to my shop," he said, putting out his hand in greeting.

"Falcons," Emma replied promptly, glad that he didn't guide her towards actual Quidditch equipment. It had been years since she had last been on a broom and it was for the good of everyone that she never got on one again.

She shook his hand. "Emma," she supplied. "I work down the street for Romilda."

"Falcons? Fan of throwing elbows and faking fouls, eh?" He asked, good-naturedly, a smile on his face. He didn't have anything against any team, if he were honest. Just a fan of the sport in general. "Tough loss last week, though," he said, "Against Chudley, all because of the snitch, ridiculous, real nail biter of a match, though. Your guys almost had it even without the final catch."

He thought back to having listened to the match in his office. His Pride had won against Ballycastle the day before, but he knew what it felt like when your team didn't make the grade.

When she mentioned Romilda his smile grew, "Oh yeah, Lavender's been into the shop some, my fiance," he explained, "Romilda and I run into each other at those business get togethers at Finnigan's." He hadn't known the girl well in school, she was a few years below him, but she'd been cordial enough at the meetings, and Lavender had nice things to say about her shop. And had certainly bought nice things from the shop.

"There's nothing wrong with favouring an offensive style of play," Emma said airily. She frowned at the mention of that particular unfortunate loss. "Yeah, that was really fucking close. The Cannons just got lucky." The local rivalry was usually intense enough as it was purely for geographical reasons, but this match had seemed to go the Falcons' way right up until the end.

Thinking quickly about customers, Emma nodded. "I know who you mean. I think she came in recently."

Cormac gave her a big smile, "I like a fan who can defend their team," he said diplomatically. But then he nodded, "The Falcons aren't my favorite team, I'm all about the Pride, but I agree with you there, the Cannons must've had some Felicis in their water bottles or something," he joked.

His eyebrows raised, "She did, did she?" Maybe she'd be surprising him with something fun soon, and that thought lifted his spirits (considering the rain) immensely.

"Working in... Romilda's shop," he wasn't sure what to call it, "That must be different. I know my parents thought I was a little crazy when I wanted to open to this place, but that's a story of a whole different thing, isn't it?" Don't get him wrong, he loved the things Lav brought home from it, but that wasn't any kind of work he could explain to people. Of course, maybe it was easier for a witch!

"So, anyway, what are you looking for today? I've got the new line of knick knacks and even some new team holiday decorations for Halloween and Christmas."

"Mmm, yeah, I think so." She'd been looking at lingerie, if Lavender was who Emma thought she was, though she had been Romilda's customer, not Emma's. That probably meant she'd bought something really gorgeous because they had some amazing stuff in stock at the moment that Emma kind of wanted for herself. Unfortunately, living at home meant she had stashed a lot of her raciest stuff away because she didn't want anyone else finding it by accident.

Emma grinned. "Nothing gets in Romilda's way. Especially not other people's opinions."

"Well... I know it's early, but I'm sort of thinking about what I want on my Christmas list. So I guess I'll take a look at your knick knacks."
