RP: Even more of a birthday surprise than was anticipated
Who: Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan
What: Seamus delivers Dean's birthday presents. Dean forgets his birthday
Where: Dean's bedroom (tiny bit of Towpath Studios)
When: Morning, Monday 24th August
Rating: NSFW - Swearing and small amount of poorly consented sexual-ish content (check with players if you want more details)

Despite a few slow periods when he was literally watching or waiting for paint to dry the past month had been an incredibly busy one for Dean. His sudden breakthrough during a bout of sleeplessness had catapulted him head first into almost a month of working on a test run for his Nightmare project. People grumbling at the price of his work could be directed at just how long wizarding art could take in addition to the actual painting time.

All the painting, and masking, and waiting had finally come to a close in the early hours of Monday morning when he'd been unable to sleep at midnight and had decided to go and check on the drying progress of the final layer. Upon discovering it was dry he'd set about doing the spell work to bring everything to life.

He had finally, finally finished in the early hours of the morning, watching for several tense minutes as the piece moved its way through the first of many, many repetitions of its final form. There were a few little niggles he had with it, but it had basically worked and he could easily fix those in the final piece. He'd jumped for joy and danced around his studio for a solid ten minutes before realising he was absolutely exhausted, all the hours he had spent working and worrying about how it would go finally crashing down on him in a complete lack of adrenaline.

He had made a very careful check he'd finalised his spells and closed up his studio again, leaving the piece on prominent view to remind himself of his success when he came back later. Or possibly the next day. Such success deserved a reward.

Said reward was sleep. He didn't even bother showering when he got home, just stripped off his clothes where he stood and crawled under his duvet. He was asleep within minutes, snoring softly.

Not once in all of this did he remember that it was his birthday and he was likely to get a visitor. A visitor for whom he usually made a concession to at least underwear in bed.

Dean almost flinched himself when Seamus seemed to move away from him slightly, curl up and protect himself. From Dean. Dean. He hadn't cringed away like that in... probably years. They were still touching though, and that was still some comfort.

"Not golf then," he said, rolling his eyes at Seamus slightly. He examined the hat from all sides and shrugged, completely lacking comprehension of where Seamus had been going with it. He flipped it around to the right direction and slipped it onto his head at a slight angle. Felt a bit weird being the only thing he was wearing, but it fit well enough. "Ohh, I see," he said knowingly. Seamus was usually reluctant to reveal the theme of whatever he'd arranged for Dean's birthday. "I'm sure all will be revealed later then," he said.

He looked up, bewildered as Seamus stood up. He never left so quickly unless there was some desperate part of the planned festivities to finish up, and even then he usually stayed a bit. He couldn't come up with any argument to persuade Seamus to stay though, his mind was blank of all ideas. There was food of course, but why prolong the awkwardness? He nodded faintly and took the hat off again, and putting with his other presents. "Yeah. I... I'll see you later then?" he said, hating that it came out as a question. He wanted to ask Seamus to stay, but he couldn't make the words come out. His face twitched through several distinct expressions: a smile, a frown, a pleading look, and settled on one that mostly felt lost.

Seamus flashed a mere shadow of his usual mischievous smile when Dean cottoned on that the hat was clue. "Maybe," he said. "Or maybe not." He had given Dean red herring presents before, but that had mostly been while they were still at school and Seamus had all the time in the world to track down cheap, suggestive-but-irrelevant presents. Nowadays he wanted to give Dean things he'd actually keep, not little trinkets he'd throw away in a few months when he couldn't remember why they were funny.

"I'll be there," he said, not consciously aware of the fact he didn't actually confirm that Dean would see him. He paused, twirling his wand in his hand for a moment. He didn't want to leave. He didn't want to say 'enjoy the rest of your birthday' like he wouldn't be around for it. His desire to stay, to actually be welcome and wanted and not just an annoyance, was almost overwhelming - so Seamus did what he did best. He apparated back out to his living room, chest feeling empty as he hurried down to the Roost to supervise Dominic's final transformation.
