RP: Melinda and Viktor
Who: Melinda and Viktor
What: Talking in the bathtub
Where: Viktor’s house… the bathtub
When: Saturday 15. August 2005 – late evening
Rating: TBD

With a content sigh, Melinda leaned back against Viktor’s chest. The water was warm and the foam just thick enough to make it feel luxurious. The only light came from the candles on the counter by the mirror. With Bryn’s position still left unfilled the days tended to run longer, and today had been no exception. It worried her, of course it did, because with the announcement of the Team Cakes the start of the Quidditch season became real to her, and that meant that Viktor would now be on the same insane schedule that Oliver had been on last year. Now, however, she figured that she was aware and Viktor being as different from Oliver as he was… she hoped that was enough to make this survive the upcoming busy patches.

She also knew that Viktor had something personal going on this month, but she hadn’t pushed him about it. He would tell her, when he was ready, and until then, she would just be here with him and enjoy the quiet closeness now that the children was asleep.

“Better get used to it,” Melinda smiled and turned just enough so she could kiss him. “I own a shop, I always work hard, and I don’t mind it, it’s just…” without those extra hands, she couldn’t do the tasks that required longer focus – like decorating bespoke cakes – because there was always customers coming into the shop, which… well, she didn’t mind that either. “It’s not knowing how long this’ll be that makes it hard, but I’m sure someone’ll come around soon enough.”

Gently brushing the fingers of her free hand back and forth on his muscular thigh, she looked at him with concern. Sure, Viktor’s problems with focusing on the practice was like her lack of focus in the shop, so she could relate, but that Tsveta and Misha were wanting attention like that? Viktor was an attentive father, she knew that, and she had seen how he was there for him and how they never seemed to lack his attention. “They having a hard time adjusting after the summer break?”

Viktor's fingers curved around her jaw and held her there for an extra moment, kissing her again. "I know you do, and I admire it," he told her softly. "I just hope you find someone soon, so you don't haff to vork quite as hard." He smiled and kissed the corner of her mouth again, hand stroking soothingly down her neck and shoulder, enjoying the touch of soft skin.

"A bit, I suppose. Mostly Misha is clingy because Tsveta is clingy, and Tsveta misses her father," he said with a sigh. "And I do not blame her, but it is still inconvenient. I think I vill haff to have my mother come and stay for a little vhile."

Melinda smiled into the kiss, loving the feel of his fingers on her neck. “I will,” she assured him softly, if nothing else, there was always her mother who could fill in a couple of times during the week, but that would only happen if things truly got too hard for her.

Gently she cupped Viktor’s jaw, letting her thumb caress down his cheek. She didn’t know the whole story behind how Tsveta had come to be in Viktor’s care, but she had gathered that the girl’s father had been very important to Viktor. “That has to be hard for both of you,” she sympathized, and sent him a small, encouraging smile. “Why don’t I take Misha tomorrow and you can spend the day with Tsveta?”

Viktor turned his head just enough to press his lips against her thumb, tempted to nibble on it. He still marveled at the fact, and indeed forgot about it at times, that she didn't read the gossip rags and so didn't know every detail about half of everything in his life.

"She just... misses him. I miss him too," he admitted. It was a subject he rarely ever mentioned to anyone, and he wasn't sure how much he would explain to Melinda, with her not knowing many of the details already. He blinked and then smiled at her offer. "You wouldn't mind?" he asked. Of course, Misha loved her, and he wouldn't mind being in her care, but he didn't want to impose on her, especially with how busy she was lately.

“No, I wouldn’t mind,” Melinda assured him with a soft smile. “It’ll be good for you and Tsveta to spend some time together, and I’ve almost perfect my dragon roar. Misha and I… we’ll be good, we’ll have fun.” Was spending her mainly-free Sunday off babysitting her boyfriend’s toddler her idea of an ideal day? No, of course it wasn’t. For it to be ideal, that day would include her boyfriend, too. But she only wanted the best for Viktor and his family, wanted to do what little she could do to help two people who in no time had come to mean so much more to her than she had thought they would, and if spending the day with a boy, who had his little chubby fingers firmly wrapped around her heart, then she would do that. Besides, she loved spending time with Misha, and though Misha was too young to mourn the loss of Tsveta’s father, he was bound to be affected by the sadness of his father and sister. This way he, too, would get some much deserved time with the attention he was craving.

“He was special to you, wasn’t he?” She asked gently, shifting in the water so she could look at Viktor as she spoke. “Tsveta’s father. He was more than just a close friend.” There was no sense of jealousy in her, just a genuine concern for Viktor and a desire to truly know him and his family.

Viktor couldn't help but grin. Melinda was very good with his children, and yes, her dragon roar definitely pleased his son greatly. It warmed his heart that she was willing to give up some of her time off just to watch Misha, so he could spend a little one-on-one time with his daughter. "Thank you, love," he murmured, hugging her more tightly. It meant a lot to him. Tsveta did need him and just him sometimes, especially as she got older.

He wondered for a moment if he should hesitate, but he had never been particularly ashamed of his history, aside from perhaps actually marrying his ex wife, though Misha was something he could never regret. "I loved Mikhail very much for a long time," he admitted, the only hesitation being that it wasn't the easiest to talk about. "Even after ve stopped seeing each other, he vas my best friend." Awkawrdness and all, initially.

Somewhere, in a teeny tiny part way back in her mind, Melinda had feared that hearing about Viktor’s former lover would hurt. It did, but not because he was telling her about a man he loved… the pain she felt was for the loss that Viktor had suffered.

“I’m sorry for your loss,” she whispered, leaning in to rest her forehead against Viktor’s. “So incredibly sorry.”

Viktor hugged her a little more tightly, sprinkling a few kisses across her cheeks and lips. "Thank you," he murmured. He had been afraid, though he didn't want to admit it, that she'd react badly to hearing such things in his past. It wouldn't be the fist time in his life that had happened. He was very relieved to know that wasn't the case.

"You vould haff liked him, I think," he surprised himself by saying, but he found himself thinking it was true. "And he would love how you are vith Tsveta."

Melinda was surprised by the small smile that appeared on her lips. That warm feeling at hearing that Viktor thought she would have liked Mikhail and that he would have not just approved of the way she was with Tsveta, but loved it… it felt good. No, ‘good’ wasn’t the right word. It was bigger than that. It warmed her, it touched her, and somehow it made her see that she wasn’t just falling for Viktor; she already had. He had loved this man, who sounded like an amazing human being, and now he had let her into his life, into his children’s lives.

“He sounds like someone I would have liked,” she smiled softly, “and he fathered a wonderful daughter.” Leaning in, she kissed him slowly. “Thank you,” she whispered.
