Consequences
Who: Bryony and Marcus
What: Consequences
Where: Towpath Studios
When: Wednesday, August 12, mid-morning
Rating: SFW

The gossip pages weren't usually anything that Marcus paid much attention to - but Bryony's first name in a headline had made him stop and go back to the article. There had been a pit of dread in his stomach, which had only gotten progressively worse as he'd read. By the time he finished, he felt almost physically ill - not because of the implications towards himself, but because he was certain this had all stemmed from Bryony visiting his flat the night his mother had died. Which made her disownment entirely his fault.

He didn't bother to finish eating, instead rushing through making himself presentable and having Rakey locate and tell him where to find his best friend. Every moment waiting for that information seemed to drag. Once he knew where to look, Marcus apparated out of the house directly to the entrance of the studio where Bryony was apprenticed. He spared a brief thought to hope he hadn't ruined that dream for her as well, and then started to make his way to the patio the house elf had said she was in.

Having only been in the building once before, and not having paid nearly enough attention at the time, it took Marcus a few minutes of wandering to find the woman he was searching for. He was thankful he hadn't run into any of the other employees, if only because he was so focused on his goal, he wouldn't have known what to say to any of them.

Stepping into the room, he recognized Bryony's hair, and stopped. She had been there for him without question when he needed her, and he couldn't do any less in return, but Marcus had to wonder if he'd even be welcome, given that he was the reason she was in this situation as it was. "Bryony," he said quietly, not daring to step closer in the event she didn't want to see him.

Though it had only been a few days, Bryony's life had started to take on a new routine. She woke early, transfigured the couch she was sleeping on back into its usual uncomfortable form, showered and changed then made sure to clear up any evidence that she had spent the night. After breakfast, she cleared the kitchen in the same way before taking up her place in Braith's room to make it look like she was just there early to work.

Once the others arrived, she made her way around them to ask if they had anything for her to do. Since she wasn't really working on her own art she felt like doing everything she could for the other artists was the least she could do. Especially as the small sum Braith paid into her bank account each month was now her only income. Today, no one had had much for her to do so she'd stepped out into the patio area with her sketchbook.

Though there was a soft pastel in her hand and her sketchbook was open on the table in front of her, she wasn't truly sketching. She knew she should be - now, more than ever - but nothing seemed beautiful about her life right now and she couldn't bear the thought of being out in public to work on her people-drawing.

She turned when she heard Marcus's voice and was on her feet in an instant. "Marcus?" she left her things on the table and moved over to him, taking his hand. "Is everything okay?" She hadn't seen the Prophet, and the only reason she could imagine for Marcus coming to see her unannounced was that he needed her.
