Pool Party!
Who: Lucy and open to everyone invited - please tag your characters!
What: Pool party!
Where: Mews House, Hanover Terrace
When: Wednesday 22nd July, 3pm til late
Rating: SFW, there's children present!

Lucy hadn't intended the times on the invitation to be really taken seriously - they were more an indication of the hours she was free and she was hoping people would drift in and out as it suited them. It had been a display of pool toys in a pound shop near Tufnell Park that had inspired the whole idea, and there was a collection of them already floating across the surface of the water.

Outside in the garden there were tables for food, which would be produced later, and coolers for soft drinks. The alcoholic punch was in Susan's fridge - warded so that the underage guests couldn't get at it by accident (or by design).

As a number of the guests had replied to say they likely wouldn't be able to arrive at the supposed start of the party, Lucy was taking it easy. She'd managed to get the inflatable boat launched without actually getting her swimming costume wet and she was lounging with her shoulders against the inside of the prow, one hand in the water and eyes closed as she waited to see who would be first to arrive.

The weather wasn't ideal - and through the glass roof of the Mews House, Lucy could see grey clouds massing. It wasn't raining, at least, and nor was it forecast to. At least the pool was covered, and if it did start to rain later they could always have the food inside. There was plenty of room for everyone, even though Lucy had been more generous with the invitations than might be expected.

Megan Jones wasn't usually the first to arrive to parties. But today she was apparently feeling rather ambitious. She'd been up with her usual morning routine and had done a great deal of random errands relatively faster than she had anticipated. So much so that she was practically without activity as early as 2pm. While dilly dallying about for an hour she supposed arriving on time to something wouldn't be the worst. Course, she hadn't expected to be the first to arrive either.

With her swimsuit under a blue wrap she carried with her a large white tote and a birthday gift! She realized that the pool party invitation said nothing about birthday celebrations or gifts... but Megan tended to remember random things of that nature. Especially for the individuals she practically lived with for six years. Plus, whether people liked to admit it or not - birthdays were important to one's psyche!

When she spotted Lucy floating about, the former Hufflepuff put on a goofy smile and began singing loudly and dramatically off key as she entered holding the medium sized box in the air. "Happy Birthday to you! Happy birthday dear Luuuuucccyyyyy!!!" She snorted in amusement mid-abbreviated song as she made it to the edge of the pool. "I bring gifts!" she announced as if it weren't obvious.

Lucy sat up at the first notes of the happy birthday song, using an oar to push her closer to the edge so she'd be able to greet her guests. "Megan!" She hadn't seen her old friend in some time - not since she'd first ventured back to the wizarding world, and that had only been briefly. It probably had something to do with the Quidditch season taking up all of Megan's time, but Lucy was glad to have time to reconnect.

"Oh, you didn't have to!" she said, throwing her arms out for balance as she tried to clamber out of the boat without getting more than her feet wet. She hadn't mentioned it was her birthday on the invitations, partly because she'd just forgotten and partly because she was inviting a lot of people she didn't know terribly well and didn't want to pressure them to bring gifts.

Safely restored to the poolside, she jogged over to Megan to give her a hug. "I haven't seen you in forever," she said. "How are you?"

Lucy, Megan, Stacey and open (3pm)

"Like we wouldn't bring you birthday presents!" Stacey called out from the door, hearing Lucy's protestation. She made her way over, grinning, a gift bag in one hand. Since she'd Apparated over directly from the flat, she was only wearing her swimsuit, with a sweater wrapped over her shoulders for some sort of covering. There was a bag on her shoulder with a towel and a change of clothes if she needed them later on.

Once she was standing next to both other girls and could speak at a reasonable volume, she said, "Zacharias wanted to be here, but he had some work meeting he couldn't get out of. Mysterious things he can't talk about, and whatnot." She shrugged, and then continued, "Happy birthday, Luce. Having a good day so far?"

Megan offered a very excited and happily encompassing hug to Lucy when she clambered out of the pool. But before she could answer the question asked a very familiar voice interrupted and Megans smile grew larger.

She distractedly answered the original question with a quick, "Im fantastic." Before Stacy was close enough to ramble about Zacharias' excuse for not attending. Which wasnt all that surprising, honestly.

"Yeah," Megan added to the question posed to Lucy as she offered a side hug to Stacey. "Are you accomplishing all of the appropriate Birthday necessities of doing what you damn well please?"

Lucy's gaze darted to the door and she grinned when she recognised Stacey - waiting until she was close enough before she gave her a hug too. It was incredibly good to see them both again, and knowing Susan would be here later only made it better. "Why've we waited for my birthday to do this, again?" she asked. She pouted when Stacey mentioned Zacharias couldn't come, but she did understand. "Aw, I was hoping to see him. He seems like he works too hard." She made a mental note to find another excuse to see him soon - he'd done so much to help her lately, she really felt like she owed him a good time.

Lucy gestured to the pool and its toys. "I think this qualifies as doing whatever I want, don't you? I always wanted a pool party growing up, but mum and dad couldn't really justify it." Hiring a whole pool for an afternoon was expensive, apparently, though Lucy had been to a few parties hosted by others. "I'm really going to miss this if I move out."

Stacey returned both hugs with a grin, and answered Lucy's question. "Because we're adults now who have to things like work?" She glanced at Megan and then added, "Well, most of us." She stuck her tongue out and winked to show that she was just teasing, and then looked back at Lucy and nodded as she said, "Yeah, he does. I try to get him out of the flat from time to time, which is only partially successful."

Smiling widely, she had to agree that the set up definitely looked like someone was planning on having a great time. "Wait, you're moving?" Stacey asked with something almost like horror. "When? Why? You can't abandon us, we just got you back in our lives!"

Megan returned the tongue and added a nose wrinkle at the jest. Alright, she didn't have a normal job - but.... you know that's everyone else's problem. She was relatively use to the joke having relatives who reminded her frequently that her problems - had very little relevance to others. Megan didn't mind...she was, after all, winning at life for the most part.

"Yeah," Megan quickly added to the argument with very little additional statement. Lucy had been gladly returned to the Hufflepuff love fest in the wizarding world! All were rejoicing! She couldn't just....leave again! Well, actually she could...but that wasn't the point.

"We should form a committee," Lucy decided. "The 'get Zacharias to enjoy himself' committee." She snorted. "He'd probably hate that, but we should do it anyway." She laughed at the exchange between Stacey and Megan, waving a hand. "Nope, no, no talk about 'adults' on my birthday. I'm not getting old - I'm just having a pool party." Her tone bore a faint, deliberate, resemblance to a child singing 'la la la I can't hear you'.

Flattered by their outrage, Lucy pressed a hand to her heart. "Not leaving, not abandoning you, just... you know, moving into a house that I can actually afford to pay rent for? I can't live off Susan's charity forever." Like Megan, she paused a moment to reconsider. "Well, I probably could, she wouldn't stop me, but I won't. I'm going to find a nice muggle flat where I can have a TV and an oven I understand how to use and where my mobile will work - and then I'm going to get it hooked up to the floo so I can still get to everything in the magical world."

Blaise and OPEN (around 6:30 pm)

Blaise had been taken off guard by the invitation. He'd only barely spoken to Lucy. Other than Millicent and their small conversation prior to the broom games he couldn't think of anything he'd done to warrant an invite. Still, proper etiquette dictated that he accept and at least make a basic appearance.

He wasn't one for swimming. There had never been time for such things growing up, his mother had always considered it an activity below their stature. He didn't even own a pair of the short pants that were required for the activity. Thankfully, he could wear anything within reason under his work robes so he had been able to dress comfortably enough for the day to avoid going home which likely would had prevented him from getting back out for the evening.

Upon his arrival at the location he could hear the noises coming from where he was sure others were gathered. He hadn't known what to bring to this sort of event so he made the faux pas of not having anything with him while knowing he's send a follow up thank you. Walking in, he nodded to the first person he made eye contact with. "Hello."

Richard and OPEN (around 5pm)

Rich had made an early day at the office, and escaped in plenty of time to head to Lucy's party. He'd slung a canvas messenger bag that held his swimsuit and towel over one shoulder, and visited a muggle shop on his way to the Mews.

Softly whistling snatches of an old French song one of his mother's brothers had taught him he made his way into the glass-enclosed pool area, a half-dozen helium-filled balloon animals in tow. It was a sort of a children's party sort of thing to bring, but he hoped Lucy would find them amusing. And in a small, tissue-wrapped box, he'd also brought a little something he'd picked up in Athens that was a more grown up birthday present. The simple elegance had caught his eye and he hoped Lucy would like it.

Setting box and card on the gifts table he smiled as he walked further into the room to see who was there, and who looked like they needed a balloon animal.

Bryce [and Sophie] and Open (4:30 PM)

"One more time, what are the rules about water?" Bryce asked his daughter as the entered the house, one of her hands wrapped in his own. The little sighed and then repeated, "No going in by myself, ask before going in with someone who's not Daddy, keep the floaties on, and no putting my head in it."

"Very good," he answered, not particularly concerned that she sounded exasperated with him. "And no running, at all." Sophie nodded in response to this, and even if he was still a little worried - there were a lot of things that could be dangerous here - he couldn't help smiling at her. She was dressed in a pink and black swimsuit with pink water wings and a
inner tube with her two favorite Disney princesses around her waist, all of which had been presents from her aunts. Bryce himself had on a plain black pair of swimming trunks and a gray t-shirt, even less concerned about fashion that he was on any other day. He also had a bag over his shoulder with a change of clothes for both of them (two, in Sophie's case) as well as three towels - a lesson learned after the last time she'd dropped her first one in the water at the beach.

As he contemplated the logistics of how the rest of the afternoon would work, his thoughts were interrupted by Sophie asking, "Is Tristan gonna be here?" He had to force himself to keep walking at a normal pace, and tried not to let any of the seven different things he felt about that question show on his face. "I don't know, princess, but if he isn't you can't be too upset about it, okay?" For a moment it looked as though this answer wasn't going to be good enough, but then she shrugged and said, "Okay."

Letting out a small sigh of relief, Bryce decided the best course of action for his own sanity was a bit of distraction. "Go say thank you to Lucy for inviting us, and then come right back. Then we can get in the water," he told her, and when she grinned, he let go of her hand, and started to take off. "Walk, Sophie," he called out after her, watching her deliberately slow her pace.
