Where: Around London, Tavistock Square and St. Mungo’s, at least
When: 7 July 2005, late morning [Backdated]
Rating: TBD

Perhaps she should have left a more extensive note for Adrian, than the hastily scribbled one in the journal, but there was just no time. She had already taken the twins to Bath after her mum had called to ask what was going on in London. At the time, Alicia hadn’t known, but hadn’t wanted to take any chances. Not knowing the extent of what had happened, just that it had to do with King’s Cross, she was certain that other Healers would head there in case any citizens of the Wizarding World had been injured. Rather than Apparate close to the station and risk exposure by the undoubtedly many Muggles present, she Flooed to Sam’s place on Coram Street, from which she could easily make the walk – or run – to King’s Cross in a few minutes.

Wearing the scrubs from the clinic where she worked – at least according to the Muggle authorities – and the badge with her name and Muggle title of Specialist Registrar she pinned a little golden Gryffindor lion the scrub shirt pocket – in case someone needed to identify her as a witch – and set off down the street at a steadily paced run. She was just running through the possible injuries she was bound to see and how she would treat them, when a loud bang in the direction opposite from where she was going had her stop. Fred and George’s love of everything that went boom had taught her what explosions sounded like, but this didn’t really register as one. Except that it did, or at least it registered as something that needed her attention as the screams began to reach her too. Running faster than she had before, she went back and turned the corner only to stop for a moment and try to make sense of what she was seeing.

Right there by the park was a bus with the upper part mostly blown off, people were still inside, and outside, on the street, with more people coming out from the building right next to it. It all seemed unreal, almost like déjà vu, and it wasn’t until she was close enough to distinguish the voices that she realized that it was medical terms that were being thrown back and forth between those who had come in to help. Where had all those Muggle doctors come from, she wondered before someone, a woman, pointed to her badge and pointed to Alicia’s badge before she pointed to a young man lying on the sidewalk. “Go!” she called over the noise, and Alicia hurried over to him, crouching down and immediately started assessing and stemming the blood from the cuts she could see.

She was just wrapping up the last of the gaping cuts on the man, Brian he’d told her when she had asked to keep him awake, when she glanced up and saw someone she hadn’t expected to see here.

“Oliver?!” she called out, shushing gently to calm Brian again when he groaned as she tightened his bandage. She waved for one of the emergency care assistants, giving him the rundown of the injuries she had treated and her suspicions of tertiary injuries that they would need to do more thorough exams for at the hospital, before she cleared Brian to be taken away, and she went after the man she was sure she would recognize anywhere. “Oliver!” she asked as she came up to him and put a hand on his arm to get his attention. “Good Godric, Oliver, what happened to you?”

“Not even a year ago,” Alicia corrected him. “And if it’d been up to me, it’d’ve been at least another month before you were back out on that Pitch.” Oliver was tough, sure, she knew that, but she was also all too aware that concussions was nothing to make light of.

This wasn’t the first time Alicia was doing a quick patch-up on someone, it wasn’t even the first time she was doing it on Oliver, so his growls and yelps barely registered with her. At least not on a level deeper than it alerted her to whether or not she was doing something wrong. What she wouldn’t give to just be able to whip out her wand and Heal him properly right here, but with all the Muggles and the cameras around, she had to settle for simply staunching the bleeding as best she could so he wouldn’t pass out from blood loss before she could get him to St. Mungo’s.

“And how exactly are you going to get home from here?” she asked him, her eyes still locked with his. There was no way she was backing down on this, not even if it was a game of chicken when it came to who would break eye contact first. Reaching into her backpack, she pulled out the blanket and draped it around his massive shoulders when he began to shiver. “Right now you have three options, Oliver Wendall Wood,” she told him straight out. “You can either stay here and do more harm than good before they put you in an ambulance and take you to the nearest Muggle hospital. I can put you in a bodybind and take roll you away on one of those wheeled stretchers.” Her lips twitched slightly as the determination to no longer pull any punches settled in. “Or you can let me take you to St. Mungo’s and I’ll get you some of those salted butter caramel éclairs you love so much. So what’ll it be?”

A hefty eye-roll followed Alicia's statement of keeping him benched for longer after what he claimed was a minor head injury. "Yeah, you would." He mutter begrudgingly. That was the problem with having a healer for a friend: they were too worried about silly things like 'what if you get dizzy' and 'your arm is still stiff, give it a rest for another week!'. They just didn't understand. How could they? They had no idea the pressures on a player to perform at peak levels at all times.

He still shivered though didn't feel cold, but every nerve in his body was alight with sensory, causing him to feel uncomfortable; that, and a wicked headache was starting to settle in, along with a dull sort of ache spreading slowly over him from deep inside his core.

"I'll walk! I have two legs." Oliver snapped back, tilting his chin down ever so slightly in a familiarly intimidating gesture. "It isn't like I can't use them." As the blanket draped around him he instinctively clutched at it with white knuckles. It felt warm and comfortable. His blue eyes glared at the use of his full name, and his lips formed a tight, thin line. He would have told her off, to leave him here and let the muggles sort him out... if he knew that was an actual option and not just a bluff. The real options were the last two.

Finally, after several intense seconds, Oliver dropped his gaze. "...Fine. But I'm going to walk with you, alright? No body bind or brace or anything." He said, standing slowly. His face twisted in pain, realizing just how much his leg hurt. "C'mon." If he was going to go to the hospital, at the very least Oliver would feel like it was his decision.

Oliver was a big man and it didn’t take a lot for him to appear intimidating. However, Alicia had known him since her first day at Hogwarts and they had seen each other in just about any situation and state of mind possible, and this? This was nothing new. Alicia quirked her eyebrow at Oliver, letting him stare though showing no signs of remorse; she knew she was in the right here, and she’d be damned if one of the few times she backed down it was when it could do irreparable damage to him.

“Thank you,” she told him, her glare melting into a supportive smile as he began to get up. Tempted though she was, she didn’t reach out to help him up. For now, he needed to keep that pride, although as they started to walk down the street, she drew closer to him, slipping under his arm until she could put her arm gently around his waist. That way was easier for her to support him until they could slip out of sight and Apparate to St. Mungo’s.

“Alright, big boy,” she said as she steered him through a gate. “Let’s get you out of here. Hold on tight.” Slipping her other arm around him, she closed her eyes and focused on the Apparation point by St. Mungo’s and on including all of Oliver in the spell. With a POP they disappeared only to reappear by the old hospital a split second later. “Let’s get you checked in.”

Pride and determination had always been a life source for Oliver, but part of being team-oriented and a good captain had been knowing when to back down, even when firmly rooted in a decision. At the very least Alicia let him retain some sense of pride and let Oliver stand on his own despite the intense pain he felt.

Walking seemed harder than a few moments ago and the world registered in various bits and pieces, like looking at a speeding slideshow of photos. He didn't even notice Alicia slip under his arm at first, but the feeling of being supported by his friend felt very comforting and he leaned into her with a bit more weight than he meant to, draping his arm around her shoulder and holding tightly; Oliver didn't want to admit he felt scared and very tired. He didn't say anything during their walk and only nodded when Alicia prepared them to apparate (holding her close with both arms), trying to quiet his mind and focus getting the two of them to the Apparation point without any splinching.

In a blink of an eye they were there, and Oliver shuffled toward the hospital. At the front desk marked Inquires three witches stood, swamped by a crowd of panicked people demanding to know if their loved ones had been admitted to the hospital. The receptionist -- an older witch with tightly cropped silver hair -- caught sight of Oliver and Alicia.

"Out of the way!" She barked, hurrying over to the two. "Merlin. Was he outside in London, then?"

Oliver shifted away uncomfortably and tightened his grip on Alicia. Surely he could just go home and not have people gawking; the last thing he wanted was a write up in the papers.

Alicia glared at the Mediwitch who came rushing to them, drawing the entirety of the anxious attention in the waiting area to them, or rather: to Oliver. “That would be none of your concern,” she informed the other witch, and after a quick look around steered Oliver in the direction of the closed off areas of the Artifact Accident ward, seeking to provide Oliver with the most privacy possible. “Call a Healer who actively practices the concept of discretion,” she articulated the word carefully as if explaining something to her own children – who she doubted would have acted like this blithering idiot, “and tell their new arrival is male, twenty-nine years old, tertiary injuries with multiple abrasions and contusions and possible concussion. Also, possibility of brief loss of consciousness is highly likely.”

As they reached the first available area, the Mediwitch was still following them. Alicia looked up for any identifying markers. “Tell them we’re in area… 12B,” she told the Mediwitch, though she continued when the witch didn’t move. “Now!”

Once the Mediwitch had left, Alicia and Oliver had reached the cot, and Alicia helped Oliver get onto it, before she drew the curtain shut, and started casting wards to ensure Oliver’s privacy. “There’ll be a Healer here soon,” she assured him, though she had every intention of getting started on his Healing as soon as she was done with the wards. “Do you want me to get the team’s Healer?”
