Adrian opened the door to the pub for Alicia and the kids, a rare, genuine happy smile on his face considering the public setting. The announcer for the Pub Quiz was still setting up and they took a seat at a table together not too far from him, but enough of a distance from the bar where Adrian felt it was appropriate for the children to be sitting. Not that he said as much to Alicia, of course.

With a kiss on her forehead he went to the bar to order their drinks - pumpkin juice for the kids - and ask for dinner menus, and then returned to the table. "So, your mum said you've been eating healthy all week. Who's ready for a night of total food rule breaking?" He sent a cheeky grin at Alicia.

How Alicia had agreed to bring her children to the pub on quiz night was still beyond her. Of course, they’d been thrilled about going, and even Adrian seemed enthusiastic about it, and said enthusiasm was what had made her say ‘yes’ in the first place. While it was true that she had lost some of her competitive edge since she had stopped playing Quidditch, she did like to win still… though this felt almost like cheating.

She smiled up at Adrian at his kiss, and watched him for a moment as he walked to the bar, before she looked back to the twins and they quickly went over the rules for the quiz and for them being there in general. Rules or not, though, they were almost bouncing in their seats when Adrian returned.

“Ooh,” she said as they were handed the menus, and without thinking twice, joined in the children’s chorus: “Me!” oh, she was ready for total food rule breaking.

“Chips!” Liam suggested.

“Fish’n’chips,” Alicia added.

“Mushy peas!” Isla chimed in, earning herself a curious look from Alicia. “I like them,” she said with a shrug.

Alicia looked at Adrian and chuckled. “And mushy peas.”

Adrian laughed along with Alicia, "Mushy peas are breaking the food rules?" He cocked an eyebrow at his girlfriend and then at her children and the look made the kids laugh. "I'll go put the orders in," he said, leaning down this time to look pointedly at the kids before stealing a quick, chaste kiss from Alicia's mouth, making the kids squeal as he ran away jokingly.

He ordered what everyone wanted, including the steak pie for himself, and pointed out the table he was seated at. He gave the menus back and then seated himself back at the table, next to Alicia. As he slid his arm around her, he asked, "So, are you guys ready to win Pub Quiz? Your mum is our secret weapon."

If mushy peas were breaking the food rules, it wasn’t any food rules that Alicia had set up or followed. But Isla seemed thrilled at the prospect, so Alicia wasn’t going to object to it. This side of Adrian, this goofball who would joke and tease and put on a show to entertain the children… This was the side of Adrian that Alicia knew was foreign to most people. She had seen it before, but that didn’t make it even less wonderful to be part of. He even managed to genuinely surprise her a little when he stole a kiss, making her yelp, which only had the twins laugh even harder as he went to place their orders.

While he was gone, Alicia explained how pub quizzes worked, and when Adrian returned, they’d just started suggesting team names.

“I am,” Alicia said secretively as she made herself comfortable under Adrian’s arm. “I’ve the best handwriting, you see,” she continued, wriggling her fingers. “So you answer and I write.”

Adrian made a pretend "I'm hurt" face when she said she had the best handwriting, but he also knew his was nearly illegible. "And so you're the writer and the brains? I'm a lucky contestant tonight, I get to just sit back and relax. What about you two?" He asked the kids. Liam shrugged and Isla gave an enthusiastic nod.

"So, yeah, we'll be enjoying a relaxing night at the pub, and you can do all the work, yeah?" He asked, looking back to Alicia with a straight face.

“Ah, no no no no,” Alicia laughed, wagging her finger at her three most favourite people in the world. “There’ll be no relaxing for you three brainiacs tonight,” she warned playfully. “You’ll all be doing the thinking and I’ll just make sure that the answers are legible. You two,” she pointed to Isla and Liam, “are to make sure that Adrian doesn’t come up with silly names, all right?”

She looked up at Adrian, meeting his straight face with one of her own, though it didn’t take long before there was a twinkle in her eye, just from looking at him. “No relaxing for you tonight, love,” she said, her lips twitching with a lurking smile. “And you’ll love it.”

Adrian's lips quirked up despite his attempt to keep it together, especially at her last statement. With the children there, of course, he didn't respond the way he'd like to - something about her putting him to work in the best way, late at night - but said instead, "Well I suppose I can be convinced," and sighed, looking again at the twins, "Think we can help her out?"

When they copied his mock resignation he laughed and asked what they thought the team name should be.

“Good Godric,” Alicia groaned good-naturedly when she saw how her children were copying Adrian… and she loved every minute of it. Despite everything that had happened, everything her family had gone through, everything they had lost she sometimes felt like the luckiest woman alive, and right now was one of those times.

“The Beatles!” Liam suggested, then thought for a moment. “Or Super Twins!”

“Or AILA,” Isla suggested, surprisingly calmly for her.

“Isla’s not a team name,” Liam sighed. “That’s your name.”

“Not Isla,” Isla said, and Alicia fought to keep a straight face when her daughter unmistakenly rolled her eyes at her brother. “AILA. Like Adrian, Isla, Liam, Alicia. AILA.”

Adrian quirked an eyebrow - Isla never seemed to stop surprising him with her cleverness, especially at her age - and said, "What do you think, Liam? It's clever." He didn't want Liam to feel left out because the acronym sounded like Isla's name.

Their food was delivered just then and the wizard running the Trivia night announced that the games would begin in fifteen minutes. "Well, we've got a little bit at least, we don't need to be sure on the team name until it starts, right?" He asked Alicia, it had been a while since he'd been.
