Stupid Statue
Who: Greg and open!
What: Contemplation, conversation?
Where: The Monument, Monument Alley
When: Tuesday 23rd June, 2.10pm
Rating: SFW for now

Greg was supposed to be at work. He should have been back at work ten minutes ago, not standing mute in front of Monument Alley's monument. He'd been on his way back to Diagon Alley from Sweet Nothings when he'd stopped. Someone had left flowers at the phoenix's feet and the bright colour against the stone had caught Greg's eye. It was a stupid statue. Who picked a phoenix, famous for coming back 'from death' to represent all the people that would never come back? Vince and Greg's dad weren't going to suddenly appear from their graves.

It was even worse that it was Dumbeldore's symbol, Dumbledore's pet. Greg felt no loyalty to Voldemort, but he thought Vince had and he knew his dad had. They wouldn't want to be associated with Dumbledore's stupid bird. People like Finnigan and the Weasleys might talk about the phoenix representing the 'rebirth of the community' - but Greg didn't know many people who really believed that. He didn't know many people who felt like they were even accepted by this community. They tried, they worked where they were supposed to work and they'd stopped (mostly) talking about mudbloods and blood purity. Even so, the community preferred to forget about them.

He was so lost in unusually heavy thoughts that Greg didn't even notice someone stepping up beside him, whether it was to try to get his attention or to look more closely at the flowers.

"I work a few doors down at Flourish and Blotts," she stated deciding it was best to ignore whatever dialogue Goyle was having with himself. Sh herself had a habit of being displeased though she'd worked really hard at reeling in her feelings. "I should probably let you go," she added. Small talk wasn't necessarily one of her strong suits.

Greg made an obviously disapproving face. "That's not worse than working at Weasley's," he decided aloud. "But it's pretty bad." Greg - unsurprisingly - was not a fan of books at all and could imagine little that was more boring than working in a bookshop, except perhaps working in a school. That Marietta was a Ravenclaw had slipped his mind, and even if he'd remembered it wouldn't have occurred to him that she might think differently. But then she was offering to let him go and Greg nodded. "Yeah. I have to go work. Thanks."
