RP: Birthday
Who: Draco and anybody who wants to join him (Feel free to start subthreads etc)
What: Birthday
Where: Finnegan's
When: Evening, Friday June 5th
Rating: None - will update if needed

Draco wasn't sure if anybody would turn up but he felt he needed to at least go out for a drink for his birthday. At the very least he might see Seamus and he could have a chat over a pint. It wasn't that he was particularly bothered that it was his birthday but it just felt like a bit of a waste if he didn't acknowledge it. His parents had actually sent some gifts over and they weren't awful so he was in a rather good mood when he made his way over to the pub.

He'd closed the shop at six as usual grabbed a quick sandwich and changed before going out again.

As was his habit, Greg kept a careful eye on the rest of the customers clustered around the room. There was little conscious thought in it, but he still made sure to position himself as best he could between them and the group of Slytherins. His eyes went to the other side of the circle, half-expecting to find Vince doing the same... But where Vince's broad shoulders should have been there was no one. Greg didn't tend to be sentimental, but the unease of not being able to cover the whole circle by himself and the ache of having lost his platonic other half clouded his expression for a moment.

Pandora's comment brought him back into the present, and he nodded. "It's really good. Everything isn't so loud, but I can still hear people." It was probably pointless to explain the functioning of her own invention to Panda, but he didn't know how else to express its benefits. "Do you think I could go to a quidditch match?"

Honestly Draco hadn't even thought about their positioning in regards to the rest of the room but then that was why he'd always had Greg with him. He had been Draco's protection as well as friend and as a result Draco always found he felt safe with his around.

"Thank you Pandora, that's very kind" Draco said as he took the gift from her, watching as she and Greg interacted. He was glad his friend was finding help for his hearing and that they had such a good network for him to get help.

"You're very welcome, Draco," she said sincerely.

"It should work well at a game. I'll fiddle with another one and experiment with extra controls. Mine are pretty even toned." Dora glanced around a little self consciously and fiddled one out of one ear. It become visible once out of her ear, and she held it out to show him. She rarely did that sort of thing, but they had a similar problem. "But yours are more controlled, which means i might be fiddling with mine sometime soon." She'd finally had time to replace her broken one. "Too much strong magic performed on your or done by you might short it out, but I'll make sure you have a spare sometime soon just in case."

She was very glad she could help; she knew how vulnerable it could feel to have your hearing outside of your control, whether it was too loud or too soft. It wasn't something she advertised about herself, but neither was it a complete secret.

Until Pandora had mentioned it, Greg had had no idea she used hearing aids herself - but then, he often didn't notice things about people, and sometimes even when he did he simply forgot. He grinned, both at her and at Draco. "You want to go to a match?" he asked him immediately, before he remembered that the season was over. He liked quidditch, even if he wasn't much good at playing it, and it had been something he and Draco had shared for years. "I guess we have to wait until next season."

He turned back to Pandora, concentrating hard so he wouldn't forget what she was saying. "I bet that won't stop Weasley," he complained. George had slowed down, but he still liked to 'test' products on Greg every couple of weeks. Sometimes products that were years old. He didn't know whether any of them would count as strong magic - probably not.

"I'm going to try to make sure to see more Quidditch next year," she told the two men. "I hardly got out at all for them this year, but hopefully next year I'll manage it more." Especially since the Magpies, which had been her favorite team since she was a little girl, had won the championship this year and she hadn't gotten to see it. Plus Quigley was going to the Magpies, and Krum was staying. She had some very high hopes for her favorite team.

She snorted softly. "He can meet the other end of my wand if he fries it for you," she said, tucking it back in her ear. It disappeared as it was designed to do. "I generally fry my own every couple months, one or the other." She shrugged. At least she read lips very well. "Such a jerk to keep on doing that to you."

Greg nodded, but didn't immediately suggest they go together. He wasn't impulsive about his social life that way, and it wasn't until after a brief pause where he'd had time to think about how useful it would be to have Pandora with him when he tested the limits of his hearing aids that he replied. "Maybe we could both go," he suggested. "Who do you support?"

Her words were only really an echo of the rest of his friends. She was far from the first who'd be willing to aim a hex at Weasley. Some days, Greg barely restrained himself. "He thinks it's funny," Greg said, as if that weren't obvious. "Ron too." At least, so Greg assumed. On the whole, if Greg had felt confident that there was anywhere else he could work that would be better, he'd have taken the job. It was only knowing how bad he was with potions that prevented him from taking up Draco's offer of work.

"I've always loved the Magpies. They were killer this year." She smiled fiercely for a moment, proud of the team that she'd grown up loving, that had been closest to where she'd grown up. "I'd be up for a game sometime." She wouldn't impose; she knew Greg and Draco were close. But every now and again some company would be nice.

"He's an idiot. There's funny and there's cruel," she said. She would know. She'd been around enough bullies in her life. "Especially when they should know by now that you don't enjoy that sort of stuff."

Greg gave a grunt of grudging agreement. The Magpies had been good, there was no denying it - even if Greg would have preferred they not win. "As long as we're not watching Montrose against Appleby it should be fine." Not that Greg was really worried anything would happen if they did go see their favourite teams play against one another - but since that was likely to be one match out of several, it made more sense to go see any of the others.

"Why would they care if I enjoyed it?" Greg asked. If anything, his enjoyment would probably make it less fun for them. Greg had never snapped out of the us-against-them mentality he'd grown up with, especially not when it came to the Weasleys and Potter. He didn't expect them to view him as anything other than an enemy either, even if George had employed him.
