RP - Work before sleep
Who: Rolf, open

What: Rolf has to work despite being tired

Where: The Bestiary

When: Work Hours

Rating: TBD, probably SFW

Today had already been a very long day. His grandfather, who sometimes like himself, actually, forgot what time it was, had Floo-ed him at 3am asking about the winged polo season. Which, it seemed, was over in this hemisphere. Which was probably just as well, since Rolf really wasn't sure if he could ride again yet, with how tight and painful his scars could be at times, and he knew if he watched a match he'd probably want to play as well, at least casually.

He supposed he should muster up more interest in Quidditch, but while he was a good flyer, he'd never been an enthusiastic Quidditch afficianado, probably because his parents and grandparents could pretty much care less about Quidditch so he hadn't been around it much growing up.

And then he'd gotten an owl about an Enlarged rabbit running around the countryside, so he'd had to go out and catch it, which had taken hours around dawn. Not to mention he'd gotten filthy in the process. A shower and a strong mug of tea later, he was at The Bestiary, wishing he had more reliable help so he could nap for a couple of hours.

He hid a yawn with one long-fingered hand and started to make rounds again, visiting all the animals and paying specific attention to their individual needs.

Neville liked how they were keeping the animals. They had enough space, food and water. Everything was clean and he smiled. Some of the pets were coming to meet him near the entrance of their cage. "They all look happy. I've seen places in my line of work.." He sighed. Some people bred animals in poor conditions.

"Size doesn't matter, but we have a very large yard so a big one wouldn't be a problem. I have more than enough space. I just.. I just want to make sure I bring a dog that accepts me. Everything else, the size, the color, the breed.. it doesn't matter much."

"What do you do, if I might ask?" Rolf inquried. "My grandparents and now I run a rescue that probably gets some of the rescues from those places." He had the numbers down a bit right now, but it was only a matter of time.

Rolf listened and led Neville to a pen about halfway down the way. The dog sat up and wagged his tail happily. "This guy has been here for longer than I've been back. I don't know why, other than he's probably eight or so and was neglected previously, and is a mixed breed. He's a bit shy but warms up after a bit. Come on in and meet him, if you want to look around more, we'll go around to everyone," Rolf told him.

Neville smiled. "What's it's name? Does it have one?" A dog this age, surely they had named him. "Hey there.." he said softly, only approaching the pen a little, close enough so the animal could come and meet him if he wished.

"I'm an Auror." He replied, crouching. "There is a sense of accomplishment when I rescue these poor animals from bad conditions. From what I see, your family are actually doing this right for them." It approached him and he smiled. Of course it was a little hesitant at first, but eventually it sniffed Neville's hand.

"His name is Adonis, for how his coat shines when he's clean. We call him Donny a lot though," he said with a smile. Rolf moved out of the way so he wouldn't interrupt with the first meeting. Donny liked him already and would often beg for pets when he was in here. He watched as the tail started to wag and the dog licked tentatively at Neville's hand.

"Ahh, yes, the rescue gets a lot from your department," he said with a nod. "We try. It's been a family business for a very long time. Donny is up for adoption, not sale, though a donation that goes directly to the rescue is always appreciated." Some people liked to know these things.

Neville was absolutely smitten as soon as Adonis showed him some interest. "He's indeed very handsome." He said nodding. He'd make sure that Adonis (or Donny) would keep his gorgeous, shining fur. He tentatively started to pet him and he grinned.

"No worries." He told Rolf, then looked at him. "I think we've found each other." He sincerely believed that it wasn't about buying a dog, or adopting a dog. It was about finding the right one to share his life with and Donny seemed to fit the bill.

"He was a bit of a mess when we first got him. All those curls were matted and tangled and dirty, so when they saw how handsome he was under it all, they named him that." Rolf had familiarized himself (and worked hard at it) with every animal in the shop when he first was tasked with taking it over from an inept business manager.

"Wonderful." Rolf couldn't help but grin broadly. He adored the moment when a match was found. It made his heart all warm and fuzzy. "I'm so pleased." And he was a little smidge of proud that he'd managed to make a good match immediately. It was a talent he was trying to develop.

"Oh, poor thing." Neville said to both Rolf and Adonis at the same time. Grinning, he looked at Rolf. "I can promise you he'll never be this messed up again. "Hey," He told Donny. "Wanna come over to my place? We have a really, really big yard. I'm sure you'll like it. And we have flowers and a garden. Lots of sun and lots of shade." It would be perfect for Adonis.

"I'm no seer but I can see that already, I think. I do believe he's been raised in a magical environment, though he's never done anything overtly magical. Like most animals inside and outside of it though he is aware of spells and such." Animals always seemed to see the uncanny. "I think he'll find himself perfectly at home with you." Rolf grabbed the leash hanging outside thr pen and handed it to Neville. "He is mostly leash trained though like most he can be distracted on occassion. If you'll lead him to the front I can get you the basic supplies you'll need and we can look at the birds as well."

"Oh, perfect. At least he's not gonna freak out." He said with a chuckle. Even though it was just the two of them, Neville and Augusta tended to use a lot of magic to do things around the house.

"He'll love the gardens. I have singing plums trees and magical morning glories." They tended to have the best harmonies in the morning, which usually set off the plums into vocals.

Neville took the leash and opened the pen, allowing Adonis to come to him, waggling his tail. He was clearly excited. He clipped the leash on the collar to bring him to the front. "Come on, Donny." He called for him to follow, which he promptly did.

"Oh, I bet that's lovely to listen to in the mornings," Rolf said. He'd seen a lot of things in his travels and here and home, and while plants were not his specialty, he'd run into the combination before. It was one to remember.

Rolf followed them a trifle more slowly, in part to disguise his hurts. He was smiling, though, for very little felt better to him than finding a home for an animal that actually needed one. He picked things up from a few shelves as he went, and he'd summon the large bag of dog food in a few. Not that he couldn't carry it, but he'd rather not test out his leg right now.

He set those things on the counter and went off to the side, to the birds. "This was the bird I was thinking of for your grandmother," he said, bringing the cage over. The crimson-bellied conure looked at them inquisitively.

Neville's eyes grew wide when Rolf brought the bird out. "Oh.. Oh that's perfect." He said, his initial stunned expression cracking up into a grin. He hoped his Gran would love it too. The house was so big that he figured Augusta could do with some company.

Rolf grinned. Hopefully this was two for two for the day, which would thrill him to no end. He tapped one of his wands on a paper under the counter, and it copied out perfectly. He flipped to another, and did the same thing. "These are your care instructions for both animals," he said. HE summoned a few things for the bird, and set them on the counter. "And I recommend these things, though you of course don't need to purchase them all. It's up to you. I do recommend the food, however," he joked. "If at anytime you have questions or concerns, please ask, and I also ask that I have first take-backs if you can suddenly no longer take care of either of them."
