Who: Rose and Dennis
What: Post-movie discussions
Where: A Café in Muggle London
When: Afternoon, Thursday April 30, 2005
Rating: Potential NSFW for language

When Dennis had said “Let’s go watch a movie!” the minute Rose had stepped into the flat, she had simply said “Sure!” and then they had taken off. Never let it be said that Dennis ever brought her anywhere dull – and if he had, she’d conveniently forgotten about it – but this?

This was AMAZING!!

Being completely honest, Rose would have to admit that after a couple of minutes she had stopped paying attention to the actual story in the movie and instead let the visual experience wash over her all the while her mind had worked overtime to keep up with each little Charm and Spell that had been used to make this happen.

A couple of hours later, she was sitting across from Dennis in a small café, humming contently as she sipped from her triple espresso. “How,” she started, and took a bite of her brownie before she continue, “in Helga’s holy name did they manage to pull off all that magic without breaking the statute?” Witches and wizards got away from doing magic in public amongst Muggles all the time, but this – actually recording it and displaying it like this for the entire Muggle world to see – was taking that to a completely different level.

The look Rose gave him - one of her patented 'Really, that's what you're going with Creevey?' looks - just made Dennis dissolve into a fit of mirth all over again. "I know you can be quiet, dear," he agreed with a nod. "But there's etiquette involved with talking at the cinema. It's simply not kosher and doing so would have earned you - and by extension me - a whole tonne of looks from our fellow patrons."

Having reached the portion of his drink that was actually made up of well, drink, he took an appreciative sip. "Thousands of hours and millions of pounds no doubt, yep," he agreed still grinning at her. "As to why, well there's two answers to that. Firstly, because the studio that made the movie will hope that they make all the money back, plus a whole bunch more." He sipped his drink again and then put on a more serious face. "The second reason of course, is that magic doesn't exist. It's ridiculous! Can you image it? Magic, existing? What a load of rubbish!" He sat back and grinned at her rather like the Cheshire cat, except decidedly gayer and with better hair. "You see, for billions of people around the world, magic doesn't exist. The concept of using a couple of well placed charms to achieve the same effects as computer animation doesn't occur to them because it's not a possibility for them. It's what I love about my non-Muggle born friends - you're all so used to magic that you can't imagine what life would be without it."

“Looks?” Rose smirked as she stirred the black liquid in her cup. Dennis, of all people, should know that looks didn’t bother her in the least. “Well, you needn’t worry. All of this compact brilliance there’s a bit of etiquette and situational awareness that pops up on occasion. Besides, I can make eating bacon kosher, so what’s a bit of talking in the cinema?”

She paused and sipped from her espresso again, before she shook her head. “No, no, I get that they hope to make all the money back, but why?” with a grin she gestured to Dennis. “Why haven’t any of you Muggleborns seen this? Do you realise the amount of money that could be made when you cut away all the extra work with the con-puters and make-up, and start a magical business that produces movies for Muggles?”

He rolled his eyes. "Oh my god, you'd think years of friendship would've stopped me misusing the word 'kosher' around you, but nope. The West Country is too strong in me." He took another stab at the cream and twinkled his eyes at her. "I'm glad we weren't trampled by irate Muggle movie goers."

Dennis sighed and pointed at her accusingly. "Okay one, the Muggles would notice if it was suddenly completely different, and effects were performed on the ground not in post-production, and two, we would all be locked up for gross violation of the statute. Some witches and wizards tried it in Hollywood way back in the day. It wasn't pretty!"
