rp: the wind under our wings (or something like it)
Who: Bryony and Marcus
What: Flying!
Where: Flint Manor
When: Sunday, March 8 2005, early afternoon
Rating: These two are always gong to be SFW

Perhaps one of the good things to come from his mother being admitted to St. Mungo's was that Marcus didn't need to scout out a place for Bryony to fly with him, or worry about charming them so that they would be unnoticed, the way they'd done during their childhood. The acres surrounding Flint Manor gave them more than enough privacy, and the only ones who knew what they were doing were the house elves, so Marcus wasn't worried about any repercussions from Bryony's mother discovering her hobby.

Standing on the front lawn at their appointed time, he was trying - and failing - to get Rakey to stop fussing over him. Only after a few long minutes spent reassuring the elf that he was in fact eating and sleeping on a regular basis did she leave him to his own devices. Shaking his head with a fond smile, Marcus looked up at the sky, tracing the clouds and watching the leaves on the trees dance with the wind. There was s light breeze, but it was warm enough that he didn't think they would experience any difficulties - all in all, a perfect day to be on a broom.

Marcus laughed at the challenge, as always allowing Bryony to pull away before taking off himself. Not that it much mattered - he always let her win, the one counterpoint to his usual mindset of having to be the best. He followed at what was practically a leisurely pace - even as the ground sped by below him, it was nothing compared to the way he flew during practice or matches, and it was relaxing, to be up on a broom without worrying about anything other than just flying.

Even with that though, he caught up with Bryony as the house came into view, and he slowed slightly allow her to stay ahead. Marcus wasn't sure if she was ready to land, or if she would want to do a few laps, so he waited to see what her next move would be, planning to follow suit no matter what it was.

For Marcus the pace was leisurely, but Bryony gripped her broom with both hands as she watched the ground speed past and felt the wind tugging at her hair, trying to pull it from from the ponytail. She slowed when she neared the garden, pointing her broom down into a carefully controlled dive before she hopped off and touched a hand to the kitchen wall to declare her victory. She grinned up at Marcus, squinting slightly against the sun as he came down to join her.

If only she could fly and paint and be with Marcus every day, she really thought she could be happy - if she didn't have to 'earn' those pleasures by first spending time with her mother and sisters. To focus her mind back on the positive, she looked around the familiar garden. It was looking a little less well kempt than she would expect - presumably because Philipa wasn't in residence to tell the house-elves what to do, and there was no one they needed to provide food for. She knew if she mentioned it, Marcus would add it to his list of responsibilities to take care of, so she kept quiet. Maybe she could get Tilly to send some messages, if only she could think of something to do with the vegetables that were being grown.

Grinning at Bryony's win, Marcus dismounted almost carelessly, jumping from his broom while it was still a few feet from the ground, glad that he managed to land in such a way that didn't require him to roll through the grass in an undignified manner. Not that it would much matter - she'd seen him in any and all states, so he wasn't nearly as concerned with keeping up appearances here.

"Great job," he said sincerely, proud the same way he always was whenever they flew together, knowing that he'd taught her that skill and that she'd honed it on her own. He could remember a time when this sort of thing had been the highlight of his day or week, and though things had changed, he was still grateful as ever to have her in his life. "Rakey will throw a fit if we leave without her getting a chance to try and feed us something, at the very least," he said with a small smile, nodding slightly towards the kitchen door - an unnecessary gesture, since Bryony knew the house almost as well as he did.
