Even in a bookshop, Bryony was aware of her surroundings. She noticed the tall stranger approaching and managed to step sideways out of his way. It wasn't a graceful step and she only narrowly avoided the collision - and yet suddenly he was apologising. Bryony quickly shook her head, taking another step backwards. "It's fine. It wasn't your fault." Objectively, it had been, of course, but Bryony was only too used to taking the blame.
At a safer distance now, Bryony glanced awkwardly between the shelves and the man at her side. "It's really fine," she offered, more genuinely, even managing a small smile. "I know how it is with books."
