RP: Camera Shopping
Who: Rolf and OPEN

What: Camera shopping

Where: Diagon

When: Afternoon Friday February 27

Rating: SFW

Rolf had been pleased to be reminded he should work up some little animal biographies and post them to the journals. Sometimes he forgot about the journals, if he were honest; he might make notations when on assignment or studying something, but otherwise he’d never been a journaler. But he would be happy to use the medium to promote his animals.

So he left the shop in capable hands and went over to Diagon, wondering if there was anywhere here that sold cameras or if he was going to have to venture into the Muggle world. It had been years since he’d had to purchase a camera, nad that had been in a completely different country.

Rich was cutting through Diagon with the thought of picking up a cake or pie, or maybe something sugary and evil for breakfast on Saturday when he spotted another former 'Puff.

"Rolf old boy," he called with a smile to the younger man. "Away from the creatures great and small? Out windowshopping?"

"Just for a little while," Rolf replied with a smile for his fellow Hufflepuff. There'd been an age gap between them in school, of course, but even if Rolf wasn't as zealous about House loyalties as some, old House connections still did show through.

"I'm actually trying to find a camera so I can start advertising our adoptable animals on the journals," he said. "I admit, I'm not sure who sells them around here any more. It's been years since I had to buy a camera."

"Not much help there, I'm afraid." Rich shrugged. "For grab and go pictures I just use the camera on my mobile phone. When I'm taking pictures and need better quality, like real estate and such I've got a muggle Pentax that I picked up in Hong Kong. But, have you checked Flourish and Blotts? If they don't have cameras, they might know someone down here that does. Seems the sort of thing at least some of the new students would be picking up for Hogwarts."

"No mobile here," Rolf said with a slight shrug. "I'm not in the Muggle world often enough right now to make it worthwhile." He did know what they were and how to use them; however, these days with the exception of the trips he'd taken with Rose, he didn't often leave the wizarding world unless it was to a shelter where he was either bringing or retrieving an animal from.

"I'm looking for something a little nicer and that I can use around here," he said. "I just want to be able to catalog and promote the animals, and it might not hurt ot have something I can use on a vcation or something too." He hmmed. "I didn't think of that, but I'll have to take a look there. They'll know something, at least."

"If you want to give my camera a try, see if an SLR is what you want, you're welcome to borrow it. I usually just run plain muggle film through it, but I've shot a few rolls of the charmed sort. It will do the job if that's what you want."

"I'll be home evenings the rest of the week" Rich continued, "if you want to drop by the house and I can show you how the thing works, what the different lenses do, and all that."

"Hmm, I was thinking something with actual film, so I can make wizarding photos." He was lucky he knew the term; he wasn't nearly into the muggle world like Richard was. "Your SLR is film?" He knew a lot of them came in 'digital' now. The price tag didn't matter much to him, just that he could get what he wanted.

"Hmm. I could maybe try it, though I was hoping to just make a quick buy. Alas, instant gratification might have to be delayed," he joked.

Rich nodded. "They do make a digital back for the body, but I still shoot mostly film. Couple of simple charms I had done let's me use either sort. Found the camera and lenses I liked the most and then had the work done in Zurich. Same firm that did the shield work on my mobile so I don't have to be quite so careful shutting it down around magic."

He laughed. "You'll have a good camera for years. Maybe a quick choice isn't the best idea?"

Rolf nodded. "Sounds like a good piece of work. Well, if you're willing to lend it to me, I'll take it and give it a try and see if I can get my own if I like it," he said, grateful for the offer. At least if he didn't like it he could find something else and not be out much money.

"That's true enough," he admitted. Though he could always replace it.
