Valentine's Moping
Who: Seamus and Dean
What: Moping, cake, more moping
Where: Seamus' flat
When: 14th February, late
Rating: SFW?

After shooing out the last of his customers, Seamus locked the doors and set the wards largely by force of habit, before looking around one last time as if he'd surely forgotten something. They hadn't talked about it, but he'd really expected Justin to show up tonight. They weren't dating, but nor was either of them seeing anyone else and Valentine's Day seemed as good an excuse for friends to have sex as any other night. Seamus had even bought a present, and saved the red velvet truffles that had arrived with the cake from Mel. Seamus paused at the bar, staring absently at a bottle of good whiskey one of his customers earlier had specially requested. If Justin didn't want to be here - for whatever reason - Seamus wasn't going to go find him and demand an explanation. He might be working, or with friends, or just already asleep. Seamus knew he had no right to know what Justin had deemed more important than him tonight - but that knowledge didn't make him feel any better. With a huffed exhale, Seamus floated the whiskey, the truffles and what was left of the cake up into the air ahead of him.

It was too late to go see Susan, though if Seamus had known he'd be alone tonight he'd probably have made plans to do so. As it was, he wondered what she'd arranged to do tonight with both Seamus and Dean presumably occupied. Maybe he should have sent her something more comforting than a bad limerick. Some of Dominic's roses, maybe. He was pretty sure there were some still left. He was still pondering whether to go back down and get them when he pushed the door open and headed straight for his bedroom. He'd put the food and drink down and then go back.

"Dean?" Seamus stopped in the doorway, assorted food items hanging in the air before him. "Shouldn't you be-" The words died halfway through his sentence. If Dean wasn't with Ophelia then something had gone very wrong somewhere. When Dean didn't reply, Seamus took a few steps closer - noting the way Dean was curled up under the covers. Probably asleep. Seamus tended to forget that normal people were in bed by the time his shifts ended. He set the food down on the floor where it wouldn't risk being trampled on and could still be summoned if needed. If Dean was asleep, Seamus wasn't going to wake him. He moved quietly, setting the bottle on the bedside table and aiming an irritated kick at the glossy red bag containing Justin's present on his way, sending it skidding under the bed. "It's just me," he said, knowing Dean wouldn't react well to waking to an apparent stranger getting in bed with him. "I was going to get drunk and eat cake, but I guess I can sleep instead." He unbuttoned his jeans and let them slide to the floor before he lifted the covers just enough to give him space to slide in. "Probably healthier. Look at you, being a good influence." He propped himself up with the pillows Dean wasn't using and reached for the bottle. He could have a mouthful before he went to sleep, anyway.

Seamus sighed right back, exaggerating it in the hopes of getting a smile. "That's me," he said with a shrug. "Impractical ideas, no idea how to turn them into reality. What do you think I pay Dominic for?" In a way, it was true. The whole idea of the pub had seemed pretty practical at first glance - certainly it had been more ambitious than Seamus would ever have been able to do alone. "You're really sure you can't fall for Susan?" Seamus suggested, immediately frowning over the idea. It made him feel a little bit ill. His two best friends becoming a couple was sure to leave him feeling more aware of his own sorry relationship status than ever. "Ginny? Ernie?" There were loads of viable options - but Seamus couldn't really fault Dean for not being in love with any of them. After all, Seamus was in much the same situation. He and Justin were even having sex regularly, and Seamus still wasn't in love with him. Which was a problem for another time.

"The cake is great. I shared it around a bit when it arrived, trying to make all the other singletons feel better." It hadn't really worked. There had been a definite core of customers who'd been determined to be miserable today, and Seamus had only been able to help by pouring them another shot. It was the downside of working in the pub business, he supposed. The happy people tended to spend holidays with loved ones, the unhappy ones came out to get drunk. He handed the fork to Dean, having had his share of cake earlier. "I don't know what Ron's waiting for," he added, picking up a stray bit of icing with his fingers. "I know we're young, but they've been in love with each other since they were teenagers!"

Dean managed a small smile and poked him in the arm. "I mean it's totally something I could do, but it's pretty off-putting for probably everybody involved. Maybe I should have suggested it to-" he cut himself off from mentioning Ophelia's name, it would only taste bitter in his mouth. He sighed again and then shuddered when Seamus suggested Susan. "Fuck no. I love Susan, but I love Susan like a sister. And Ginny and I aren't really...I mean it didn't work out last time, did it? And Ernie..." he trailed off with a bit of a hand wave. None of them really appealed in a romantic sense. Right now what he needed was a break. And maybe an eventual relationship where he didn't feel under pressure to impress the other person.

He dug the fork into some of the exposed cake, not really being too careful so it ended up rather ragged. He made a happy moan when he tasted it. "Why do I not go to the cake shop more often, again?" he asked, before he'd even swallowed properly. It was unfairly good cake. Far beyond his own creations, however fun they might be. Dean rolled his eyes. "I have no idea. I mean, sure they bicker, but that's not exactly new. I think all that happened with their relationship is they resolved their sexual tension, which was a bloody relief to me, at least." He grinned and then waggled a fork full of cake at Seamus. "Want more?"

Seamus - as was not uncommon - was thinking. "They have, like, friends and family groups for alcoholics and that, don't they?" he mused, the question not really requiring an answer. "Why don't we have that?" It had never occurred to him before, but maybe it was worth looking into. It could even be useful for people like Dominic who refused to come to Battlescars because they hadn't been in the battle. And maybe if there'd been something like that, and they'd been able to convince Ophelia to come, she'd have been a little more sensitive... It was still something a lot of their generation - and the generations above and below - had to deal with.

He left the question of Dean's love life for the time being. He'd known it wasn't really going to help. Though Seamus privately though Ginny and Dean might work together better now they'd both lived through the war than they had before. Maybe it was just wishful thinking. "Mmm, probably something to do with wanting to keep your figure," he teased, poking Dean's stomach as he curled up around him once more. He didn't really go for Dean's starfish method, feeling more like a limpet clinging to any bit of Dean he could get. He did move to reach for the cake, though, trapping the waggling fork with his teeth and swallowing the cake down with a satisfied hum. "Or maybe mine. You know what's yours is mine, when it comes to food." And vice versa, of course.

Dean tilted his head and considered Seamus' suggestion, his free hand creeping towards his hair because it was just where it mostly seemed to end up resting when they were curled up together. "Dunno. I mean I don't know if there are enough people around to have it every week like Battlescars, but once a month or something? I mean most of the people I know were involved in the war one way or another, but not everyone was and they've got to deal with us."

The poke to his stomach made him jump slightly and squirm out of the way of the pointy finger. "Sod off," he grumbled. "And you mean what's mine you'll scarf given half a chance," he said. He forked up for some more cake for himself and finally stuck his other hand in Seamus' hair. He wasn't sure he actually wanted much more cake, no matter his earlier thoughts. Waking up from somewhat potion-induced sleep could be a bit of a hit and miss thing, and mostly what he wanted now was to go back to sleep. It was probably the emotional outpouring. It was pretty exhausting. He swallowed the mouthful of cake and put the fork down again.

"Changed my mind, sorry. Can we just go to sleep?" he asked, pushing it away slightly.

Noticing the creep of Dean's hand towards his hair, Seamus obligingly tilted to bring his curls closer to Dean's fingers. “Exactly,” he agreed. “And then loads of people have muggle relatives…” But getting muggles to such a meeting was obviously going to be rather more tricky. It was probably something Seamus should think over at a more sensible time of day, because right now he couldn’t even remember if muggles could get into the Leaky Cauldron from the non-Diagon Alley side.

He gave Dean a mock-innocent smile, looking up at him through pale lashes. “Isn’t that what I said?” He was, at least, generous with his own food in return – when he actually had any. He watched as Dean seemed to lose interest in the cake, waiting until he’d actually pushed it away to levitate it back over to a safe place. “Sleep sounds good.” He disentangled himself long enough for one last, long swallow of whiskey to help him on his way – otherwise anger at Ophelia and disappointment with Justin and whatever vague uneasy feelings were hanging around would likely keep him up.

“Love you,” he murmured as he settled back into position, nudging his head against Dean’s hands helpfully. He figured Dean deserved to have someone tell him today, even if it was just Seamus.

"Mmm," Dean agreed, not quite sure where Seamus' nimble mind had leaped on to. He was sure the fruit of their late-night words would turn up at some point down the line when his friend's mind had worked its way on to something workable.

Dean just rolled his eyes and shook his head. Teasing was just part of their friendship, and it wasn't like they exactly stood on ceremony food-wise.

He was starting to drift off as Seamus settled back down, even as his hand automatically started stroking his hair, the movements sluggish and clearly slowing. "Love you too," he said sleepily, replying automatically as he drifted off to sleep.
