Entry tags:character: hermione granger, character: viktor krum

Who: Hermione and Viktor and the kids
What: Dinner with friends
Where: Krum residence
When: Friday evening (backdated)
Rating: SFW

Hermione felt as if she hadn't seen her pseudo niece and nephew in ages. She'd meant to come around Christmas but those days had been filled with her own family and Weasleys. Of course she hadn't minded being with Ron's family as they'd practically been her family since she was eleven. Though as they'd gotten older she was beginning to get the vibe that Molly wanted her and Ron to make a decision one way or the other. As a result things were steadily getting more and more stressful.

That was the main reason she looked forward to dinner at the Krum house. There was no stress to be had. She would simply get to sit and talk with the person outside of Harry and Ron that she considered her closest friend. She would also get the opportunity to hold Mikhail, if he didn't squirm out of her arms too quickly. He was getting so big. Though her favorite part would probably be sitting with Tsveta going through the new book of stories that she was bringing to share.

Having sent an owl earlier to let Viktor know she was coming over, Hermione had grabbed a box of biscuits after work and made her way to his residence. She knew he'd have something already planned for himself and the children so she'd simply tag along on the meal. Honestly, she was grateful to have a friend whom she could drop in on and not have to worry about making dinner for herself.

With a slight knock on the door she made her presence known and then waited for someone to answer.

Hermione gave a genuine smile as Tsveta told of her day. When she began to mention books, Hermione's smile widened. As the young girl had finished Hermione reached into her bag and pulled out the new book she'd brought for them.

Opening the book, she adjusted Misha on her lap as she looked up at Viktor. "Planning is always good," she gave an involuntary sigh.

Tsveta gave a little squeal, not too loud but not quiet either. She peered curiously at the book Hermione held out, her eyes large and excited. She loved getting gifts, always had, and there were only a few gifts that could top a book. Of course, it depended on the book and the other gift. "Thank you, Hermione!" she exclaimed.

Viktor sat on the other side of Tsveta, arm on the back of the couch. It was a cosy scene, one that always filled him with a mixture of emotions. "It can be," he said, giving her a curious look over the top of oblivious little heads.

Hermione snuggled down on the sofa and gave the children her complete attention. Once they young girl had taken charge and captured her brother's attention Hermione looked up and over toward Viktor.

"I thought so too until Ron quit his job," she said. Of course she had seen the writing on the wall and had realized that he wasn't exactly happy in his role as an auror but she had felt certain that he would have at least had some sort of plan in place. Unless of course he wasn't planning on anything at all.

Viktor watched the three with extreme fondness. He still wondered, in secret, how things would have been if he'd ended up with Hermione. But he would not admit it, not when she was still in a relationship with Ronald, and probably not even if she wasn't. It had been a secret wondering for far too long.

His eyebrows raised in surprise and question. "He quit? I thought he alvays vanted to be an Auror," he said. It surprised him that the man would just quit. When he had retired briefly from the field, he'd thought it well through and slid right into something else.

Hermione had always been perceptive except in the area of romance. She'd gotten a little better over the years when it came to watching others but where her own heart was concerned she was oblivious to anyone that wasn't Ron.

"I thought so as well," she stated. "He's always had fire in his eyes when he's had a battle to fight." Whether it had been a good game of wizard's chess or destroying a horcrux, she had always known that a good challenge made him come alive. What would happen to him without such challenges?

"So vhat is he going to do now?" Viktor asked curiously. It was a foreign thought to him not to have some sort of game plan for what came next, so he didn't even consider that option. Even if it wasn't a job,t here was always something to be had, to do, to put your time and energy into.

He admitted he was curious, and he knew Hermione was enough like him in that regard that she wouldn't think it an odd question.

Hermione hoped Viktor didn't think she was complaining. A part of her completely understood why Ron needed a break while worrying that he was acting too hastily by quitting. She would have discussed it with Harry but she didn't want him to have to choose sides. She also knew that while Viktor supported her he wouldn't just passify her.

"For now he's working with George," she relayed. "Whether it is temporary or not is to be seen."

"Well, at least he's not doing nothing," he said. "And it's with his family." Which meant a fair amount, even to Viktor. He didn't see his family enough but they were still close. "Hopefully he will find what is good for himself soon, so there will a path you both can pursue."

Hermione had to nod in agreement with Viktor's assessment. It made sense even if it wasn't the most logical of views. Perhaps it was the uncertainty this new direction offered. She had lived with not knowing how things would progress for so long that it was almost upsetting to have the road she'd believed herself to be on changed.

"I just have to be patient," she conceded knowing that wasn't always one of her strong suits.

His smile was indulgent now. He knew Hermione; he knew waiting wasn't her style. It wasn't much his, either, unless the long game paid off more than the short game. There was a certain mix of patience and direct action that made up a Seeker, and he had it.

"Maybe gently putting out options for him to explore might help?" he suggested. "That vay you are being supportive, da? But not pushy. He should like that, I think?"

Hermione didn't know if suggesting career ideas to Ron was the best plan right now. He tended to put a macho foot forward and she doubted he'd take his girlfriend finding him a job well. Therefore, as much as she felt uncertain she knew that she'd have to bottle it up and smile.

Thankfully, she didn't have to respond as Tsveta squealed in delight over something she'd read and turned to patiently await the attention of the adults. "What did you find?" she inquired turning her focus to the young girl.

His lips twitched faintly at the somewhat timely intervention of his daughter. He went with it, though, and his attention shifted from Hermione to Tsveta, his head tilting down to listen to her.

She pointed to a passage in the book and read it out to Hermione with very precise pronunciation, giggling at the end a little, obviously pleased with what she'd read. She was very much enjoying the book, that much was obvious. "Did you know that, Hermione?" she asked curiously.
