RP: Football!
Who: Richard, Stacey, and Romilda
What: American football!
Where: Richard's place
When: Tuesday, February 3 2005, evening
Rating: TBD

Romilda had a good bottle of American chardonnay tucked under her arm and arrived promptly at two in the afternoon. She'd met Richard once, New Years Eve, and had remembered him being an absolutely gorgeous older bloke in a tux, so she'd worn short shorts with a warming charm down her legs and a tight ribbed black tank top. Never hurt to look good if you were seeing a good looking man - and woman, with Stacey joining for the game - at his house, right?

With her nearly knee-length black peacoat you couldn't see that she was wearing anything at all besides her boots and she liked the thought that he might be right confused when he answered the door. With that thought and a slightly wicked smile on her face, she knocked on the door.

(OOC: Pictures of Rich's flat can be found here: http://simiangrudge.no-ip.biz/summerby/clinkst/ )

Richard shook his head and chuckled to himself when someone knocked. People from the wizarding world usually did; salesmen and muggles rang the bell.

He'd been at the stove putting the final touches on the cooker full of chili for chili and cheese nachos, so it was down two steps, a quick jog to the foyer, and down three more steps to the door.

"Hey Romilda," he greeted her with a smile. "Come in out of the cold and make yourself comfortable." He led the way up into the flat after he closed the outer door. "First front bedroom there for your coat and things, and the guest loo if you need to freshen up. I'll be over in the kitchen putting the final touches on some snacks. Want to try an American beer or would you prefer a mixed drink?"

"Cold? Please, witches learn the beauty of a good warming charm on the legs by the time we hit fourth year," she joked. "It's good to see you, and thanks for the invitation, I have to admit I'm excited to see what all the fuss is about over this American football." She shrugged her coat off and placed in the room he indicated before stepping into the bathroom to check her hair and makeup.

Joining him in the kitchen she said, "Normally I'm a bit of a gin girl, but we've got to do this right, so how about an American beer? I brought a wine from Napa Valley - they claim to have better Chardonnay than France, so I'm skeptical." She set the bottle on the counter and watched him work. "Can I help with anything?" She asked, praying to Rowena that he'd say no thank you, being that she was hopeless in the kitchen.

Rich looked up from the pot he was stirring when Romi came out of the bedroom and mouthed a silent 'Wow'. "Well just saying, but those legs should certainly be kept warm. Love the outfit; certainly goes with football."

"I've got Sam Adams lager, which is pretty good, Budweiser, which is tolerable, and Pabst Blue Ribbon, which is supposed to be a blue-collar beer, which I have never tried." He shook his head. "Chili cheese nachos are about ready, and I've got everything ready to cook dinner later. We can open the wine then."

He waved toward the back corner of the flat. "Telly is just around the corner from the kitchen, convenient for snacking. I've got the start of the pregame show queued up on the tape if you want to roll it. It runs for bloody hours, so we can skip bits later if you like when Stacey shows up, or rewind and rewatch any you think are especially interesting. Magazine on the side table there has a quick writeup on the rules of the game and something about the two teams. Pictures of the cheerleaders, too." Rich flashed a quick grin. "Since, you know, you seemed to be interested."

Stacey hadn't planned on being late for the game, but after first getting distracted by the kittens in the morning - it was not her fault, they were adorable and she was making up for lost time - and then going to pick up brownies at her mother's bakery and getting waylaid by her godmother, she was finally standing outside Richard's address. She shuffled the package around in her hands before reaching for the doorbell, smiling slightly to herself at the sound of it. "Sorry I'm late!" she said in lieu of an actual greeting when the door was opened.

Rich took a quick glance at the small monitor in the kitchen when the bell rang and grinned. Not everybody was clueless about doorbells, it seemed.

"Hi, no problem, let me take that package for you. Romilda is other end of the flat watching the pregame show." He led the way up the five stairs to the main level. "First bedroom here for coats, guest loo if you fancy a freshen. I'm Richard Summerby - call me Rich, or Bee. I'll be over in the kitchen working on snacks and things while you ladies settle in. Like me to get you an American beer, or I've the usual for mixed drinks?"

With a little bit of smile on his face, Rich headed back to the kitchen mezzanine.

"This pregame show is ridiculous," Romi called out, hearing Stacey arrive and the exchange between the witch and Richard. "It's like... an awards show, or something! Glamorous and yet... Not." She sipped her Sam Adams beer and came around back into the kitchen. She'd noticed Rich's reaction to her outfit and she'd liked it. Grinning at him she leaned on the counter and eyed what he was making. "This beer isn't half bad," she thought out loud, "I guess the Yankees can do some things right after all, even if they have bastardized Quidditch."

"Quite the production, isn't it?" Richard laughed. "Sort of the high mass of the church of American style football."

He pointed to the kitchen counter. "Dump a handfull or so of the Fritos Corn Chips on your plate. Ladle some of this Tex-Mex chili on top, and top with the grated Wisconsin cheese. First American snack to get things started. Don't forget to grab a fork and some paper towels. It's too early to start dumping food on ourselves."

Shaking his head, Rich continued, "Exploding quaffle in a pot, different rules altogether - really a totally different game. Only thing it has in common is that it is played on brooms."
