Who: Alicia and Adrian
What: Talks and considerations about the future, maybe?
Where: Adrian’s flat, Monument Alley
When: Tuesday, February 3 2005, evening
Rating: TBD

The letter had arrived in the mail this morning. All morning – or rather; all day, if she was being honest – she’d been eyeing the white envelope with the King’s College logo on the front. When she had first seen it, she had felt a rush of excitement and had been about to tear it open right then and there, but then the magnitude of what that letter held had hit her, and she had taken a deep breath before bringing the letter inside. She could open it once the kids were in school.

Except she could, because she didn’t want to be alone when she read that letter. But the Foundation office hadn’t felt like the right place to do it, either. When it was time for her to go home, she hadn’t, but had instead gone upstairs in the neighbouring building and had let herself into Adrian’s flat.

Holding up the letter so he could see it, she hadn’t said anything, because she just didn’t know what to say. Instead, she had pulled herself up to sit on his work station, careful not to move or knock anything over.

“I really want this,” she told him, biting her lip as she looked up at him. “So incredibly much and now I’m scared to look.”

Alicia sighed contently into his kiss. She knew it was a cliché, but there really was something about it when the songs, the stories, the legends claimed that kisses held indescribable powers. No, it didn’t make her feel completely resolved in her decision, but it was a soothing balm that calmed her somewhat. A small smiled played on her lips as she kissed him again, thinking of how his kisses could also do the opposite of calm her down, but that would have to wait, at least until she’d found out what was going to happen.

“Because,” she said, reaching out to take his hand and pull him closer to her again. “Because there’s no way I can specialise in physiotherapy in the Wizarding World without this. Because it’s what I’ve dreamt of doing since I started training to become a Healer.” She paused for a moment and drew in another deep breath. “Because this…” she held up the envelope, and bit her lip before she pursed her lips and tried her best to ignore the nervous stinging in her eyes. “This is the next big step away from being Daniel’s widow.” Looking at Adrian, she once again found herself amazed with him, with how he had at least held up the impression that he was alright with spending nights in the house she had been given by her husband. “And because I don’t know how I can possibly go back to everything as usual if I don’t get in.”

Adrian listened intently, standing closely to her between her legs without being so close as to suffocate her. He also made sure not to move and keep his eyes trained on her face, doing his best impression of a thoughtful statue so as not to startle her while she confessed. It was harder to keep this stance when she called herself Daniel's widow, but he knew that when she called herself that, it wasn't a slight against him or their relationship, and he was becoming more sure of his place in her life with every passing day either way.

He nodded at the end of her list and then thought, wanting to be sure of his answer before he replied. "Well then. There's no way to specialize without it, so the only way to conquer that one is to open the envelope and do the program. It's always been your dream, so again, the only thing you can do is open the envelope and do the program..." This is where he faltered thought and he sighed, almost stepping back but stopping himself.

"As for those steps... It's hard to move on, but moving on isn't necessarily moving away." He sighed again, unsure how she'd take what he was going to say next but and not wanting to hurt her, but feeling it needed to be said. "Alicia, you're always going to be Daniel's widow. I'm sorry to say it like that, so bluntly, but it's true." His voice was soft, though. "The thing is, that's not all you are, even to the Fawleys, even to Daniel's friends. You always have been and always will be more than that, and this is just another piece of that more, another piece of you, like Daniel always will be, and I hope I've become, and..." He was rambling now, and didn't know how to wrap things up.

Instead, going against his instincts, he stepped closer to her and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her forehead, before saying, "As for that last worry, I think you're bloody out of your mind, because there's no way you'll have to go back to the usual because there's no way you're not getting in."

Alicia happily wrapped her arms around Adrian’s waist, resting her head against his shoulder as he held her. His words hadn’t come as a surprise, though they were still a welcomed relief to hear. “You have been as important a piece of my life as Daniel for a while, Adrian Pucey,” she said, leaning back just enough to look at him so he could see that she meant what she was saying. “I live in the house he bought me as a wedding gift, I work for the team his family owns, I am the co-founder of a foundation in his name, and I am the mother of his children. Daniel died and I’m not about to completely wipe him from my life, because that is just not possible, even if I wanted to. But I don’t need him to be a part of everything I do either. I want to…” She chuckled nervously, because she wasn’t sure she was explaining it properly. “I want to pick up where my life was put on hold, you know? And I’m hoping that you’ll want to be part of that, too.”

Holding up the envelope for him, she smirked. “This wasn’t always my dream, but when I had to give up one dream, I didn’t want to do this half-arsed.” She glanced at the envelope. “Open it for me, please?” she asked him. “I’ll read it, just… open it?”

Adrian felt himself smile softly when she described him that way - it surprised him and warmed him.

Swallowing at the responsibility, he nodded and took the envelope from him. "No killing the messenger with overwhelming emotion when you get in, yeah?" He joked, before taking another long look at the paper and then sliding his finger along the edge to open it. Handing it back to her he held it for a moment when she'd taken hold of it, too, and leaned in to kiss her hard on the mouth. "I love you," he said, nodding, his breath and his voice steady, knowing what they'd both known for what felt like a long time but also knowing that it wasn't something he said lightly. Or ever.

“Gryffindor, remember?” Alicia pointed to herself, “I’ll make no guarantees for rampant and overpowering emotions.” She could feel her entire body shiver with excitement when Adrian finally – finally! – opened the envelope and pulled out the letter. She stretched her neck to see what it said, but the angle he held it at kept her from being able to read it.

It didn’t matter, she realised, because when he handed it back to her, she couldn’t look at it, couldn’t look away from his eyes, and then he was kissing her. Alicia wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him back with the same fervour, licking her lips when they broke apart. He was nodding, and she found herself nodding right along when he spoke. “I know,” she told him. Adrian wasn’t one to say things like that, but she had known for a while now, even if he hadn’t said it. “I love you, too.” Her smile was bright, her cheeks almost hurting, but it didn’t matter, because, good Godric, she just couldn’t not smile right now. “Did I get in?” she asked him, hooking her leg around his thigh and pulling herself to sit up straighter so she could read the letter in her hand. “Dear Alicia Fawley, I am pleased to inform you,” she read from the letter, “that your application to King’s College London has been successf-“ The words broke off into a delighted shriek as she wrapped her arms back around his neck and laughed. “I got in!”

Adrian's smile matched her own and when she finally read the missive he laughed along with her. "Never any doubt, love," he chuckled, leaning down to kiss her neck in a quick line. Lifting his head he moved to take the letter from her hands and set it safely on the bench next to them, on a clean cutting board.

"I knew it," he said, "you should have learned by now that I'm always right. Slytherin, remember?" He gave her a cocky smile and then another congratulatory kiss. "How do you want to celebrate?" He asked, already cataloging in his mind if he had any champagne or good wine in the flat.

“Mmm,” Alicia moaned softly, stretching her neck to keep Adrian’s kisses coming. His words were comforting – she couldn’t even begin to describe how much his faith her meant to her – and his kisses were slowly, but surely, turning the nervous energy that had been building into an entirely different kind of energy. Add to that the thrill and excitement of getting accepted into college…

Opening her mouth to object to Adrian’s claim that Slytherins were always right, all she got for her trouble was Adrian playing dirty and shutting her up by kissing her. That kind of argumentation she couldn’t fight, and she didn’t want to either. “Celebrate?” she asked, her lips brushing against his as she spoke. “I’ve all this energy built up from worrying about that letter all day, so we… can…” Playfully, she nipped at his lips again the pressed a kiss to the side of his chin, “go run five or siz miles, or we can,” she grinned and nudged her nose gently against his, “stay right here,” she whispered.
