RP: Is it possible?
Who: Charlie & Stacey
What: Talking new tattoos
Where: Pinky Ink
When: Thursday 29th, early afternoon
Rating: NSFW - swearing (they both have a mouth on them!)

Charlie had been wondering for a while about some more ink. He'd had all of his tattoos for a while and sometimes he looked down at the part of his leg that was missing and just wanted to do something to it. His prosthetic was all well and good, and actually it was a great way to distract him or brighten up his day, but he was still wondering if he could make art out of his stump. He knew a few people who had got tattoos on scar tissue and the like so he thought it was probably possible, but he wasn't sure how it might effect any tattoo.

He'd seen the shop before he'd been to work and looked in the window a few times, but he had finally organised himself to come in after he'd had 'breakfast'. He'd have preferred to come in on one of his days off, but the shop seemed to have the same days off he did so he was out of luck.

After he had eaten 'breakfast' at something more like a traditional lunch time he Apparated to outside Wingbeat, mostly by habit, and walked over to the tattoo shop, pushing open the door.

She was never going on vacation ever again, Stacey had decided. Or if she did, she was absolutely not leaving Meatball in charge of anything ever. Aside from the fact that her office had been a disaster, it didn't seem that the other artist had done much of anything while she'd been gone. After an hour of struggling to get things straight while sitting her her cramped office, she'd finally given up and grabbed the stacks of paperwork to find somewhere to spread out.

Which was why she was currently sprawled in the middle of the foyer floor when the bell over the door chimed, muttering to herself as she sorted stacks of parchment. Glancing up at the potential customer, Stacey smiled as she said, "Hey there. Forgive my mess," with a waved motion to the parchment surrounding her.

Charlie was sort of surprised by the mess. Not that he was especially a neat person himself, but this was a business after all. Although it wasn't exactly going to be a problem as long as he didn't tread on anything and slide. The interior of the shop seemed light and well cared for, aside from the woman and her papers on the floor.

"Hi, and you're fine. I'll edge around," he said, letting the door fall closed behind him and walking over to the racks of pre-drawn designs attached to the wall. He wasn't totally sure what he wanted yet, and looking at the provided designs was always good inspiration. Besides he wanted to see what sort of thing any of the artists might favour.

He started flipping through idly. "You the owner?" he asked after a scanning a few sheets with interest.

Sweeping all the papers into a single pile and Banishing them back to her office with a flick of her wand, Stacey rearranged until she was sitting cross-legged on the floor. "I probably shouldn't have been doing that out here anyway, but I couldn't stare at my office walls any longer." She shrugged her shoulders lightly as she said it, and then stretched her arms over her head.

Letting him peruse at his leisure, she didn't yet stand from her place on the floor. "The one and only. Stacey Rivers, or Pinky, if you'd prefer," she answered. "I'm trying to get everything back on track after being gone way too long, and apparently no one here is capable of doing the nitty gritty stuff that running a business involves. Like paperwork."

Charlie groaned in sympathy. "I know that feeling. I hate doing the fucking books. Have to set Wednesdays aside to do it or I never would," he said. He noted a lack of wincing at his swearing and let himself relax his language properly.

"Charlie Weasley, good to meet you. I own Wingbeat. Hence the paperwork sympathy, I swear that shit multiplies when I turn my back," he said, grimacing. "Mind you I have to be convinced to take holidays, but nothing much has gone tits up yet when I've taken a day or two, so there's hope yet."

He flipped through another page and turned to face her, not having found anything quite to his liking. "So, question. I'm looking for some new ink, but I've got a couple of placement options, and one of them involves scar tissue. Would that still be possible?" Both of his current tattoos had small amounts of scarring to them, but in both cases the scars had happened after the ink not before. His stump on the other hand had scarring from where his skin had been closed over and a burn that he'd got a few years before due to some loose stitching on his fire-proof trousers.

Stacey grinned, glad to be able to have a conversation with someone who understood her pain, and one who apparently wouldn't be bothered by her tendency towards cursing either. "They are absolutely the fucking worst. I've had nightmares about forgetting to do them, and then literally being smothered to death by it." She shuddered slightly at the memory before shaking her head to clear it from her mind. "It's a pleasure to meet another business owner, though I suppose there have to be a number of us around. It's nice to know I'm not alone in my pain."

She perked up at the mention of him wanting a new tattoo, especially since his words made it sound as though it wouldn't be his first. Biting her lip lightly at the question, she got to her feet to lean against the counter before answering. "Yes, but I'm going to be completely honest with you - those sorts of tattoos tend to be a little more difficult, and possibly more painful, than others. Scars mean that the ink is more likely to blur, so I'd need to be even more careful and detail oriented than usual, which would mean more time spent doing the actual inking. Additionally, those areas of skin are usually more sensitive, especially if there was nerve damage, so you're going to feel it more than you would if we were doing the tattoo on normal skin."

Charlie smiled when he recognised the soul of a fellow fan of the more colourful end of language, it was always a pleasant surprise. "I might not be quite that bad, but like I said, Wednesdays are for paperwork, and then rewarding myself with a pint when I'm done!" It might not be he healthiest strategy around, but it was working for him. Plus having Rose help him with the money side of things was an advantage. "Yeah. I'm sure some people love it, but not me."

He listened carefully to what she was saying, nodding his understanding. "Okay, gotcha," he said, taking a deep breath and sighing it out again. "It's probably easier if I explain," he said. "I mean the pain I can deal with, I've got a couple already and even if it's more painful I doubt it's as bad as dragonfire burns," he said. Of that he was pretty confident. Also the bite, with the spreading poison had been excruciating.

He walked over to the low couch and sat down, adjusting his leg by hand so it was resting in front of him. "Owning the club isn't my first career. I was a dragon handler in Romania, and coming up on twelve months ago I fucked up a visiting Vipertooth bit me. They're really fucking venemous and I lost over half my leg to save my life," he said, pulling up the right leg of his jeans to display a few inches of his prosthetic, currently a bright blue with white spots. "I've been thinking of getting something on the stump to make it as interesting as the fake part. But there's scarring from healing it over and a bit of old burn scar from a few years back," he said, rubbing his thigh along the seam of his jeans.

Laughing, Stacey said, "That sounds like an excellent reward for yourself. Maybe I need to start doing that, if it works to get it done faster." Most of the time, she just wound up getting frustrated and then having to start over, with being finished the only thing to look forward to.

She could feel her eyebrows shoot upwards at the mention of dragonfire burns, her curiously piqued. Giving him room to maneuver around the foyer of the shop, she listened carefully to Charlie's explanation, a little entranced by the story. "Wow, that's intense," she commented when he finished, before realizing that might have been a little rude. "I'm more than happy to help with that. It might take a little longer, just to make sure that the ink is doing what we want, but if you're okay with that, we can absolutely go for it."

"It sure as fuck doesn't make it worse," he said, and his almost perpetual smile inched a tiny bit wider.

Charlie released the leg of his jeans and shrugged. "Yeah, intense isn't a bad description as a general overall thing," he agreed, waving a hand vaguely. "Like I said, it's been almost a year and once in a while I'll get really pissed off, but I'm used to it, I'm mostly okay with it." When she said she could work with his leg he felt tension release. It really was the option he preferred. Not that he'd ruled out getting his other leg tattooed up eventually too, but he'd been holding out hope for his stump.

"That's great news. I've not made my mind up a design yet though. My previous two are both dragons, slightly different styles, but I don't want that this time. I was thinking a pattern of some kind, maybe," he hedged. It was about as far as he had got with his plans, and he didn't know where to take it next. "My prosthetic is charmable so I can change the pattern and colour. So if I go for a run somewhere muggle I have it plain black, I turn it into the rainbow flag for LGBTQ night at the club, that sort of thing," he said. "I don't know what style you prefer, if you've got any ideas or samples you could show me?"

Stacey nodded her understanding of his acceptance to the circumstances, feeling even more determined to be able to help. Every once in a while there were pieces of work for individuals that felt more important, and she was starting to get the feeling that whatever she did for Charlie was going to wind up being one of those.

Grinning, she confided, "I'm rather partial to patterns myself. Here, let me grab you a book." Ducking behind the desk for a moment, she came back up with a binder, handing it to him as she said, "As you can tell when you flip through, triangles and circles tend to be my shapes of choice." The drawings were indeed a mixture of bold and muted triangles of varying colors, repetitive patterns, as well a range of simple and increasingly complex circles.

"Obviously, any of those can be changed for color preference, or used as base for something else, if you'd prefer," she commented before falling silent to allow Charlie to peruse the drawings at his leisure.

Charlie took the book she handed him and flipped it open, grinning when he saw the sorts of options on display. This was the sort of thing he'd been looking for, something the wall of flash art wasn't likely to cover.

"Okay, this is more like it. Completely different to what I've already got, but then again the other two only share an animal," he said rather slowly as he flipped pages. "Not really the same style." Some he paused at to consider them longer, others he flipped past almost as soon as he saw them. He was drawn more to the bolder colours, but none of the triangles were really working for him as he imagined them on his leg.

After a while he was left flipping between some of the repeated patterns and some of the circle designs, not quite convinced about any of them yet. "I think," he said, opening to the repeated pattern and really considering it, "I think I'm going to be aiming for something like this or something with circles. I'm thinking I want it most of the way up my thigh. Definitely bolder colours, although maybe not pink and purple." He huffed a bit of a laugh. Some men might like those colours but they weren't really for him and frankly the pink seemed likely to look awful with his general colouring. "Something like that would work to wrap around, right?" he asked, making the gesture with his hands. The more he thought about it it wasn't quite the effect he was hoping for.

Over the years, Stacey had learned when to keep up a discussion, and when to leave a customer to their own thoughts about their ink. She stayed silent as Charlie flipped through the pages, letting him mull over the art at his own pace.

"Honestly, I'd warn against the pink with your skin tone," she teased with a grin. "Bolder colors will probably work better with scar tissue anyway. The good thing with patterns is that since it's just repetition, I can keep going as far as I need to in order to cover the area you want," she added with a small nod of her head.

His gesture made her pause for a moment, considering. "It would," she said, and then continued, "We could start with the center at the bottom and work up and out. That might actually work best."

Charlie laughed and nodded. Fond as George was of the shop's massively bright robes in almost eyebleed colours, but Charlie was happy to tone it down a little. Especially when it came to things in the pink range. "I'm with you on that one," he said. "I'll leave the pink to other people."

He frowned slightly and then nodded. "Yeah. I think I'd prefer something that works up from the middle. Probably something circular then," he mused. He flipped over to some of the more circle-themed images and flicked between them, suddenly realising that one of the pages was caught and opening to find a large dark red and blue themed image. He stopped, transfixed, his mouth spreading into a delighted smile. He began to nod.

"I think I've found it," he said, showing her the page he'd just opened. He traced the lines and blocks of colour slowly, imagining them stretched up his thigh. He started tilting his head, wondering whether to rotate it around somehow or leave it with the brighter side going up his inside leg as he'd initially imagined. He'd known almost immediately on opening the page that if Stacey agreed this would be the image he wanted. Not too regular, but with a strong enough pattern and colour base that it would work for him.

Stacey recognized the smile on Charlie's face, the look that said someone had found exactly what they had been looking for. As always, it made her grin, and she peered over at the drawing he'd come across. Nodding her understanding, she could see in her mind's eye how the ink would curve with the contours of the man's body.

"Excellent!" she said, clapping her hands together lightly, excited that he'd been able to locate a design that was to his liking. "So, first things first - is that in the colors you'd like, or should we see if there's something you'd like more? And would you prefer to do this the magical way, or the Muggle one?"

Tearing his eyes away from the image he grinned up at Stacey. "Actually I thin I like those colours. All the graduations and the like. I mean I know it's a lot of colour work and that'll be more painful, but if you can centre it over my stump it'll be worth it," he said, nodding decisively. He knew that because of the healing factor he'd probably have to spend some time on his crutches rather than with his prosthetic on, but that didn't bother him too much. It might even force him to take a few days off.

"Muggle, I think. Is there much difference?" he asked. "Both of my others were actually muggle artists. They're both dragons, but the more accurate one was a drawing by a colleague in Romania. The guy had no idea he was drawing something that actually existed!" He pointed vaguely to his shoulder where the more realistic of his two current tattoos sat.

Grinning back at him, Stacey confirmed, "I can absolutely do that. I do have to warn you that you won't be able to wear the prosthetic until it fulls heals, which I'm sure you probably figured out on your own." Bending down, she removed the page with the drawing in question from the others, putting it to the side for safe-keeping. "It'll probably take a few hours, but I think we could do it in just one session, if that would be easier for you?" She didn't always do larger pieces all at once, but with Charlie's circumstances, it seemed like that might be better in the long run if she at least offered.

"Depends on what you're getting," she answered with a shrug. "With this, it won't make much of a difference, unless you'd like the colors to change or the lines to shift, or something like that." Chucking at the story, she said, "I have to stick to having any more of my own done here so that any Muggle artists don't get weirded out by the bird on my ribs moving around."

"Yeah, I'd guessed as much," he said. "I've got crutches. Don't usually use them outside the house any more, but I got good before I got the fake." He nodded along to the declaration that it would take several hours, he had certainly expected that between his previous experience of being inked and the size of the area to cover. "It might be a good idea to do it all at once. I mean a little less time on the crutches would be good, they get fucking irritating after a while, now that I'm used to this," he said.

Charlie considered if he might want the tattoo to colour shift like his prosthetic did. Not that he would be able to self-adjust as he did for that, but just the colours moving. "You know, I don't think I do want it to move, so we can probably stick to muggle. I've seen some great magical ones but I think I need this to be a fixed point, you know?" he said. He snorted. Yeah a bird that moved around her ribs would probably really fuck with the muggles. "Yeah, I imagine so. I might have liked my dragons to move, but it's not mattered too much in the long run." He shrugged.

"You need me to book a block of time?" he asked, not sure on her policies.

"Sure thing - I'd hate for you to be inconvenienced because of the ink." Stacey would have hated to have been part of the reason Charlie would have any difficulties, even if the tattoo had been his idea and choice.

"Only if you don't want to do it now," she answered with a grin. "I don't have any appointments for today, so walk-ins are done on a first come, first serve basis. And you're the only one here." Business was usually spilt about even on that count, because while she had plenty of individuals who knew her and had gotten work in the past, therefore making future appointments to continue or finish existing pieces, a fair amount of people walked in off the street, picked something out and got it done then and there.

"It's really up to you," she continued. "As long as you've eaten recently and have the next few hours free, I'm more than happy to do it now, if that's what you'd like. But if you have plans, we can definitely schedule a time later on down the road."

"I can't today. For one I have to work later, but mostly I'm just not prepared. Don't have my crutches, and I'll probably take a day off just to get the initial healing done. And a couple of my staff are pretty new. I don't want to spring that on them." He mentally went through the plans he had for the next few weeks and realised it was rapidly coming up on Valentine's day, which he was planning to do a bit of a thing for and then he couldn't remember what else was coming up without looking at the calendar he kept in his office. He had a feeling he'd also promised his Dad he'd help out with some project or other the last time he'd chatted to him after Sunday Lunch.

He rubbed distractedly at his beard, frowning in concentration. "Merlin I don't even know when to suggest. Either Wednesday or Sundays are probably best. You're closed Monday and Tuesday, like me, right?" He thought hard, absently rubbing at the seam of the protective sleeve over his stump. "Shit, can I get back to you? The calendar's in the office and fuck knows what chaos life is going to throw up on top of regular work."

"That's understandable," Stacey acknowledged with a smile and a nod of her head. For a piece this large, with the circumstances being what they were, it made perfect sense that Charlie would need some more planning than most of her clients.

With another nod, she confirmed, "Yeah, I've gotta be open on the weekends, since it's the best time for business - something I'm sure you're aware of. Take as much time as you need, and just send me an owl to find a time when it will work best for you."
