The shop's books were finally finished. He'd even figured out a way to take a week off like he'd wanted - a week without family holidays or travel or any obligations.

He shut the accounting book with a final puff of exhaled air. The shop had been open for a year now, and he'd purchased the building two years ago. He'd been turning a profit for 9 months and paying his parents back since then. Ana and Gill didn't expect him to pay them back - they'd told him the money was a gift and to consider it his entirely. But he'd done it anyway, and planned on paying them back fully. If his first year math was correct, he'd be able to pay them back within the next two with just the Monument Alley building. Even faster if he could get the second floor flat rented out. Of course, Mac had started thinking maybe he didn't just want the Monument Alley location. Maybe, he wanted more. And he'd found himself think such things a lot lately.

But before he let himself get too far down that particular rabbit hole, he ran upstairs to his flat to shower and change before flooing to her flat in Camden. Stepping out of the fire place he called, "Lavender? I hope I'm not too late." He smiled, knowing he wasn't.

"Seeing as we didn't say an exact time," Lavender teased from across the room where she was cleaning up the kitchen area, "you couldn't possibly be late." She grinned at him. He had pretty good timing, actually, as dinner was almost finished now, ready to be eaten whenever they wanted it. All she had to do now was cook the steaks: hers definitely wouldn't take very long.

Lavender hurried to meet Cormac, her arms slipping around him. "Mm. You smell good. Missed you."

"Well, you are definitely the brains of this relationship." He replied, "and the looks, and the muscles, and the grace," he continued, as she came to him and put her arms around her.

"This was a long day and this is exactly where I want to be at the end of it," he sighed.

"Mm, I'm pretty sure you're the one with the muscles." Just touching him and breathing in the scent of him made her feel good in a way she couldn't describe; Lavender gave him a gentle squeeze. "And it might be a draw on the looks."

This was one of the moments when it was frustrating being so much shorter than him. She couldn't kiss him spontaneously, so she cupped his cheek to bring him to her level. "Just tell me what I can do," she murmured.

Cormac chuckled deeply, "I'd put money on you in a fight any day, and I won't have any of that on the looks - I'm the poor schlep you've somehow given the time of day to, over and over and over again." His voice changed from playful to lecherous almost immediately and he growled deep in his chest when she pulled him down for a kiss.

"You can turn off dinner and let me do very dirty things to you right there on the kitchen counter." As he said this he lifted her so that their faces were level and then he kissed her soundly. Any frustration about the future, any stress about the books and the shop, this was his oasis, kissing Lavender and wrapping her around him.

Lavender laughed softly. "My poor schlep," she said possessively, feeling his growl rumble against her own chest.

"Nothing to turn off," Lavender told him with a grin, twining her legs around him. Knowing Cormac as she did, she hadn't prepared anything that would need immediate attention when he arrived; it was all too easy to get swept up in each other when they had been apart for a few days. She had a couple of baked potatoes waiting under a warming charm and the salad didn't need any heat at all.

Smirking, she kissed his throat. "Do your worst."

"Yours indeed," he agreed emphatically. "And you know this schlep far too well," he grinned, moving through the kitchen to place her on the counter. He stepped between her legs and took her face into his hands to kiss her deeply, savoring the taste of her mouth after the day, the week, he'd had. "I missed you," he breathed out between kisses, and then entirely to his surprise, "I love you," came out next and he stopped before he kissed her again, his own admission shocking the breath from him.

His eyes were wide and he swallowed, nearly stepping back from her.

Lavender's hands stilled where they had wound around his nape, one cradling the back of his head to keep him close as kissed. Her lips almost seemed to reach for his between kisses and now they formed an O of surprise. Feeling the shift of his legs as though to move away from her, Lavender instinctively pressed her thighs against his to try and keep him in place.

She slid her hands down to rest on his broad chest, one over his heart. Licking her lips, she wasn't sure quite how to respond or if she was already over-thinking things. "Well," she said, "I'm glad you were the first to say it." A swooping, swirling sort of joy seemed to be dancing in the pit of her stomach and a nervous smile broke through her surprise. "Because I love you, too. In case it's not completely obvious that I do." Her fingers curled into his shirt. "Please kiss me before I babble anything stupid."

When she seemed to stiffen at his surprise declaration, Cormac felt his stomach drop in a rare moment of total and complete loss of confidence. But then she looked surprised (as surprised as he felt, he was sure) and she pulled him back toward her with her legs. Her hand on his heart surely felt the way it beat like a ramrod, and then she replied and he started breathing again and he laughed, "You were waiting for me to say it? I told you you're the brains of this outfit," he shook his head and his eyes shown as she said it back to him and then pulled him to her lips again.

"With pleasure, my lover," he answered before kissing her soundly and molding his body against hers once again. He felt as if a weight he hadn't been able to identify had been lifted from his chest, he felt like he could fly faster than any Quidditch pro, and defeat any dragon in the world. It was a strange feeling, but he dove into it and as he did his kiss became more insistent, nearly desperate as he grabbed at Lavender's clothes needing to just be closer to her in this instant.

"I don't want to be the brains," Lavender murmured, the tip of her nose touching his. "Not something I'm good at." She'd been terrified, really, that saying it would scare him away or he wouldn't feel the same. It was a terrible excuse; she'd seen with her own eyes the way he looked at her, felt the way he held her. A part of her had known without him saying a word, but she'd made a mistake once in her past and the skittishness about revealing her true feelings was hard to shake.

Lavender embraced him, tugging at his shirt and needing to be as close to him as she could. Giddiness whirled around her, but at the centre of it her feelings felt anchored and secure.

A delighted laugh escaped her as her dress ended up half in the (thankfully empty) sink. She crushed her lips to Cormac's again, deftly unbuttoning his shirt and craving the feel of his skin on hers.
