Journal: Alicia
Christmas has been planned and settled, gifts have been decided upon (though not yet purchased). Bookings for the ski trip afterwards has been made, confirmed and paid for, and arrangements for the second leg of the trip has also been made. Now all that’s left, is the twins’ birthday, and that has the potential of disaster will be a rough day is going to be fun.

[Warded to friends with children and the friends this will be relevant for]
We’re celebrating Isla and Liam’s 6th birthday with lunch and afternoon treats on Sunday December 14th, and would love to see you there. There being our house on Sheffield Terrace.

[Warded to Adrian]
I don’t know what you’re doing for Christmas, but the twins and I will be at my parents’ house in Bath. You’re welcome to join us, if you’d like, for an evening of delicious food (if we succeed in keeping dad away from the kitchen) and loads of singing and playing and a morning of kids jumping in the bed earlier than it can legally be considered morning, pressies and loads and loads of questions (probably bordering on interrogation).

You free tonight?

I have a feeling that once again I'm seeing a post that I ought not see. Quite frankly it disturbs me more than it probably should.

That said, I don't know what to do about the whole situation. Hell, I'm not even sure where I'd bgin.

I suppose what I'm asking is if you mind my showing for the event. Though I have absolutely no clue what one would buy for six year olds.

If this was a laughing matter, I would have asked whether it was the "Friends with children" or the "Friends this would be relevant for" part that disturbs you, however, I will refrain from making that joke.

I can see how it can be disturbing, as it does potentially imply something that is huge and life changing even to those who knows why they are included.

Seeing as how you can see the message, or more importantly: seeing as how you're expressing interest in this: Of course you're welcome to show, and I'm sure Adrian would enjoy your company there as well. Buying presents for six year olds can be hard enough, even more so when you don't know them, so keep it simple (if you want to bring a present, that is). Isla loves Quidditch (Puddlemere in particular) and Liam is a musician through and through. Aside from that, I'm sure that they would love to meet a friend of Adrian's.

As for where you should begin (whether you should begin, I'll leave entirely up to you); through the Foundation I have worked with a private investigator in family matters. He's very discreet and very good at his work. If you're interested, I'd recommend him to get your search started.

Thank you. I'm not sure if I'll be any good at choosing presents but I will try something at least. And yes, I'm sure Adrian won't mind having me there.

I'm not even entirely sure if I want to know who right now. I don't even know if they are even in Britain seeing as I have spent a good bit of time in France as well. If I change my mind you'll be the first to know.

Is there anything you'd like me to help with for the twins? And any suggestions on gifts they're particularly looking forward to getting?

How good are you when it comes to combining cupcakes, frosting, sprinkles, and kids?

As for what they're looking forward to getting... do NOT, under ANY circumstances, believe either of them if/when they claim that I've given the go-ahead for a puppy, a kitten or any other living creature, because I haven't.

We're going skiing over New Year's and then off to meet Adrian's parents on St. Thomas, and they're both excited about that, to the point where they've been talking about what they'd like for that, like ski goggles, cool mittens, beach wear, sunglasses, etc. So maybe something for that?

You know I'm excellent with kids, and as long as you don't mind any of us getting frosting and sprinkles on us (or the potential for a food fight with the aforementioned cupcakes), then I'm definitely the man for the job.

All right, no puppy - could I bring Wallace though? He's well behaved, and having a visiting dog could be the next best thing in the twins' eyes.

Will the activities be among Muggles or wizards? I know where to find certain enchanted items but if they're to be among Muggles, they might not be a good idea.

I do know that, and I wouldn't have asked you if I minded a mess like that. I'm having Sweet Nothings provide the cupcakes and the decorations and will leave the decorating up to the kids (and the adults, if they want to), and though I'd love to spend all the time there myself, I'm afraid I may be needed elsewhere.

Wallace is welcome, too, just keep an eye on the chocolate; I've heard doggies aren't too good with that.

It's all magic. They're doing the Muggle birthday with their friends at school the following Monday, so bring all the charms and enchantments.

Not to worry, I'll handle it for you. And yes, I'll keep Wallace away from the chocolate and remind the kids not to feed him any. Or lick it off their faces and fingers. Thank Merlin for cleaning charms.

Perfect! Consider it a done deal.

If you've no objections, 'Uncle' Rich will make an appearance.

I was thinking a Beginner's Broom from the custom shop for Isla and a half-size guitar for Liam if their mother has no objection.

Rich

You're very welcome, Rich, or the invitation wouldn't have reached you.

The half-sized guitar for Liam sounds brilliant (I'm getting him a drum set, so Sam can get his back), but I've already gotten Isla an appointment with a broom maker so she can be part of the process from the beginning. Some cool flying gear would be perfect, though, I think. Especially if you can get it with sparkles... or in Puddlemere colours.

A Puddlemere uniform she shall have then.

If she keeps the interest in flying, keep it in the back of your mind for when she's a little older that I'd be happy to teach her to start making her own brooms.

I still have much too much shopping to be doing. Considering my off week was last week, you'd think I'd have it done. But no. Somehow nothing was done.

What type of gift do you wish for us to bring? I do not wish to overstep any boundaries. I have many options.

Yeah, isn't that just the way things to go? Mind, I've only planned what I'm going to buy, not yet made any actual purchases, but I'm hopeful that it will happen. I hope your week off was good, nonetheless.

You don't have to bring anything big or expensive. Isla's a huge fan, loves Quidditch and flying, but she's also a 6 year old girl who loves princess things and having stories told to her, and Liam is serious about his music. So a book or sheet music, perhaps? Small tokens or curiosas. Maybe as Tsveta what she thinks might be a good idea.

It was a good week. I just can't seem to pin down anything besides practices that I got done.

Well, I don't mind price, though I will not go overboard, I promise. Haha. But thank you, I have a few good ideas now. Also, any time Isla wants to fly with Tsveta, that'd be great -- and Liam can bang away on the baby grand at my place any time as well. He can't do any harm to it, and I always say every musician should start with the piano.

I will run my ideas by Tsveta, as a double-check.

But your children are still alive and doing well, and that is what matters. Not what you got done.

Isla and Tsveta going flying sounds like a playdate we should try to get set up, and as for Liam? He's been playing the piano for almost 3 years now, and while he doesn't have a grand to play on here, he does have a keyboard, but we'll be certain to come over so he can have a go at the grand.

Ha yes. I keep forgetting that that is considered an accomplishment by other parents, even if most people would look at me oddly.

There is something about a real piano and not a keyboard that helps get the ear in, I think. I enjoy the sound more truly, anyway. I was pleased to be able to have a piano agian when I moved here.

I'm portkeying to Paris for dinner with mum tonight so can't take you up on what I hope was an invitation, but I'd love to join your family for Christmas. What do your parents like for after-dinner drinks? I can't show up without a bottle of something, you know me.

How worried should I be about this interrogation?

That's a shame, but give my best to your mum and enjoy dinner.

Like me, they're not big drinkers, but you'll never go wrong with a good red wine, and dad's been known to have the occasional whiskey. I do know you, and I'm sure that whether you bring anything or not, they'll enjoy having you there.

Don't know, actually. Not sure whether Nanna and granddad will be there, but they're somewhere else, you'll be fairly safe and just have to answer the standard things about interests and hobbies and your parents, etc. If Nanna's there... Let's just say that subtlety's a virtue she's never practiced, and she's been muttering about it being too long since she's been at a wedding. Nanna likes a good glass of port, so maybe she can be distracted?

Just back in now, she's wouldn't stop asking questions about you and the kids, seems she can't decide which arrival she's happier about - Sera's baby (another week or so they think), or all of us to the Island.

Your Nanna sounds like my kind of gossip partner, if I were one to gossip, but we all know I'd never...

Aww, well, she only gets to become a grandmother for the first time once, and then it won't be long before she can ask me all her questions herself. I hope Sera won't be too overdue. That's the upside to having twins: they tend to come earlier, although that brought along a whole collection of other downsides. I... may have found a set of clothes or three for the baby. They are so adorable and I'd completely forgotten the joy of buying baby clothes.

My Nanna's a yenta and a meddler extra-ordinaire. You'll love her.
