Journal - Can I go into hiding?
Sisters are a bloody menace.

I love them, but my two sisters, two parents, and despite my best efforts my girlfriend were all in the same room at the same time. Like a car crash waiting to happen.

I'm spending the evening cooking to calm my brain. Anyone want food when I'm done? Not sure what there will be yet.

That sounds slightly terrifying.

I volunteer Seamus to eat your food. How often does he eat stuff that doesn't come out of the pub?

It was. It didn't go badly or anything, but in other circumstances I would have held off for a while. Now Mum's invited her for dinner.

He's always on the list. I've been to Tesco for supplies, there are going to be more leftovers than I can fit in the freezer and toss at Seamus.

I've never done a meet-the-parents sort of thing, so I'm happy for you that it didn't go badly.

Well, I suppose I can always take some leftovers off your hands if you still have too much left.

I hadn't either. Ophelia's one of the other artists at my studio though, and with my parents coming for the muggle friendly days at the show there wasn't much of a way around it.

I'll bring stuff to Battlescars on Sunday so people can grab what they like.

First time they'd all been together? I reckon I should be glad I never exactly had to do that.

Yes it was, and yes you should.

Saying 'here's my friend we decided our relationship is a bit different' has got to be easier than the virtual interrogation that happened to Ophelia.

This makes me glad my sister doesn't care enough about my love life to participate in any kind of "everyone in the same room at once" scenario.

Be extremely thankful. I mean caring is good. Prying is far less fun.

Let me know what you end up with. It may be a great excuse to come see you.

I'm bringing leftovers to Battlescars so whoever wants something can grab it. I'll probably bake at some point in the week so if you miss leftovers and/or you and Harry want cake or whatever I decide to make let me know.

I shall eagerly await whatever arrives on Sunday.

In all seriousness it has been entirely too long. I brought my parents by your show on Muggle night but we didn't stay long. Your work is absolutely beautiful.

Hermione

I'm sorry I missed you. I was there most of the time. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.

I have to admit I'm not working very hard at the moment, between the show being over and Christmas coming up, so any time you'd like to do something I can probably work with it if I'm not working at Finnigan's.

I think my father went just to humour Mother and I so we didn't stay too terribly long.

I am looking forward to the office being closed myself. While I still enjoy a good thirst for knowledge I find that the confinement of an office is not as entertaining as the vastness of a library.

Perhaps you can show me how to bake those perfect looking biscuits you brought. I tried a set and they looked more like clumped mud.

My Dad's been known to do that for things, although not for my shows thankfully.

The beauty of my job, at least the art side, is setting my own schedule. Although I understand about feeling cooped up in a workplace, after how much time I spent here in preparation for the show.

Sure, we can do that. Well, I can try. They don't always turn out perfectly for me either. Especially if I bake when insomnia hits.

That's always a good thing. Mine tends to go glassy eyed when I try to talk about my job.

What about Tuesday night? I've got to bake a few dozen for the various events over the next few days.

Oh if I start talking about paint and technique he'll go glassy eyed, but he's happy to come and see the end product.

And yes, Tuesday works for me. I'll bring some of my more foolproof recipes with me around six or so. Is that the sort of time normal people are done with work?

At least you have a final product he can see. Magical law isn't something I can really discuss too in depth with my parents.

That will be wonderful. Normally I'm not home until seven but the office is closed for the next two weeks.

You love them and you know it, no matter how much you protest. I always wished I had sisters or brothers - probably why I seem to adopt so many!

Any food you send my way will definitely be eaten, mate.

I do love them, but the menace and the meddling is undeniable. Mostly Jess is far enough away at the moment, but she came to visit for the weekend and it sort of became 'interrogate my brother's girlfriend' thing.

I'll keep that in mind. Or turn up early to Battlescars, I'll bring it along to save having to pay for an owl or borrow one.

Warded to Ernie/Dean
Although, speaking of romantic interests, sorry I didn't get to meet yours for long at the show. I spent so much time making nice with potential buyers, mostly the ones I didn't know.

I hope Ophelia stood her own, though be careful - it might turn into "gang up together and exchange dirty little secrets" between them all!

Sounds good, mate!

[Ernie/Dean]
It's all right, it was your night. I hope you got a few sales out of it, maybe help with the Christmas shopping. Maybe we can do a "friends and significant others" party closer to the hols and you can meet him more properly? He was very impressed with your work, by the way.

Shit. I'd forgotten that aspect. Thankfully I think Cat is too young to cause that kind of trouble and Jess is in York. I don't think they exchanged details or anything.

I mean Ophelia definitely held her own and was endlessly polite. To the point she has a dinner invitation.

[Ernie/Dean]
I did, thanks. And yes, it'll help with the shopping. That sort of party sounds like fun. I have no idea if you met Ophelia since we weren't together much, but you could meet her too.

It would be nice to meet him properly, and I'm always glad when someone likes my work.

A dinner invitation is brilliant! A good sign for sure. I'll cross my fingers for you that it all turns out famously.

[Ernie/Dean]
I didn't get to meet her, unfortunately, but I loved her jewellery. So in a way, I've sort of met her through her art? I'd love to meet her more proper, and I promise not to give her too hard a time.

Then we definitely need to arrange something! I'm really looking forward to hols this year. I got permission from Seamus to take over the Roost for the 24th, 25th, and 26th - I had in mind that all of us who don't have family or won't be with them, whatever our friendships or allegiences, could spend Christmas together so we wouldn't have to be alone. You're welcome to come one of those days too.

It is, although I've gone from never having a partner meet my parents to a potential dinner party with them. Bit daunting.

[Ernie/Dean]
Oh that's cool. I'm with my family for the day itself but I'm not staying over, plus they're in the city anyway, so I should be able to come Christmas Eve or Boxing Day. Not sure what Ophelia's doing. I think she has family plans in France, but I'm sure she'll come if she's able to.
