OPEN THREAD: Interview Day
Who: Charlie Weasley, NPC Bobbi & OPEN
What: An assortment of interview candidates
Where: Wingbeat
When: Wednesday 19th November
Rating: SFW (potential for language)

Charlie had stuck on rather smarter clothes than usual, meaning he'd put on smart trousers and a shirt rather than jeans or combat trousers and a random t-shirt. Bobbi had given him crap when she arrived to help assessing people's bar skills if they got past the initial interview and wanted to work the bar. She was better at the fancy stuff than he was, sadly she was also one of the people who had given in her notice and would be heading off to take up a job in Spain within a month.

"You've got the tea and coffee on?"

"Yup. Biscuits are on the tables too. Let's hope you get a good bunch. Otherwise you're going to be screwed when we leave you." She gestured towards the tables and stools just to the side of the bar that people usually flooded to with their drinks and to get off their feet. With the lights up the black tops with glowing dragon designs looked a little odd and gaudy but they worked well as a waiting area.

Charlie was going to take the candidates up to his office one at a time and let the candidates use the tables as a waiting area. Plus with Bobbi around to take in today's delivery and keep an eye on them he was sure everything would be just fine. He was just hoping he'd find at least a couple of people who would fit into his eclectic team. Plus Bobbi herself was a bit of a test. She was a muggleborn lesbian with a look best classified as somewhere between goth and punk with spiky bright white hair with multicoloured streaks. She looked sort of like a stiff breeze could knock her over but she could hold her own pretty well with wand or even fists if she had to.

"Let's see who turns up then," he said, grabbing the notice he had made and opened the front doors, charming it to stick to the open door.

The sign read:

Open for Interviews
2pm-6pm
Please come in and wait at the tables near the bar.

He'd added a couple of extra anti-theft wards just in case anybody got any ideas, but there was almost nothing on the premises outside of his office that would be easily removable other than the contents of the bar, and Bobbi was on hand to keep an eye on that.

Please add your own tags and threads to the downstairs chatting amongst whoever turns up. If you'd like to do the interview bits open up a thread for your character and Charlie in the upstairs bit if you can't catch me.

"Less interesting than dragons and about as likely to hurt you in some cases," he agreed, equally dry. He'd discovered that the hard way when he'd opened the club. Thankfully a lot of his original staff had far more experience than he did.

He nodded. "Mostly it's me, but there are a couple of other staff with supervisory roles who have permission to issue bans." He trusted most of his staff to make the decision by themselves really, and they all knew the guideline ban times, but in reality it was more practical for bans to be issued by only a small number of people so they could be kept track of.

"Oh! Excellent questions. I've got a breakdown of how tips are split somewhere if you want to see it, but the basics are that I take an absolute maximum of a galleon and it's weighted towards the bar staff but everyone does get a cut. Anyone who gets an exceptional tip gets to keep it outright if they'd like to." He glanced over to his desk, knowing the guidelines for both things were both in his top drawer. All the staff had to read and sign them when they joined the team.

"As for getting involved with either customers or co-workers... both are technically permitted providing you're not neglecting customers to flirt, and it's not going to cause problems if a relationship breaks up and so on. Some of the staff are in relationships, and breaking into those isn't going to make you look good, but otherwise the harassment rules apply to staff too, only the consequences are going to be losing your job on top of a ban," he said. "Incidentally that consequence also applies to discrimination against anyone in the LGBTQ community or because of blood status."

"Good choice. I encourage experimenting with flavours if you'd be willing to put them on the board as specials, but you've got to get them past the rest of the staff who want to try them first!" Usually there were enough of the staff willing to try drinks at the end of a shift to check them out before they went near the customers.

She nodded and noted it in her mind. If she got on, she'd be sure to find out who to consult about such thigns, and make sure they were always involved. She wasn't sure she'd have the greatest judgment on such thigns, at least right off.

"If you want me on, I'd love to see it. I know some places do it different, even with those nice personal tips," she said, lifting a shoulder in a shrug. "I just want to make sure I'm doing it right and fair's fair." She tended to get good tips. She worked hard for them.

"I don't neglect the job, and if someone cheats it won't be because I forced anything, but I try to be careful of such things." Though of course there had been incidents. "Just wanted to know, so I know what's off limits. Boundaries are good." She snorted and looked at him, half a step from rolling her eyes. "I live in the Muggle world. Blood status means nothing to me," she said bluntly. "And I like pretty much anyone, of any sort, if you get my drift, so it's not going to be an issue for me. Worse that happens is I'll take offense if someone doesn't like the way I swing or my blood status."

She nodded agreeably. "If you all approve, certainly, that'd be fab. Always happy to have test subjects, I know my tastes aren't always everyone else's. I like to do theme and holiday stuff, too, so that should fit in with some of your thoughts, I'm sure."

He nodded. "Sure thing. I have it all written down and you'd be asked to sign it if you joined the team." He'd not had any complaints yet and he'd consulted all of the original staff when he was setting up since he'd not worked in a job where people tipped before.

"Well, if I take you on you'd be far from the only member of staff that fits somewhere under the rainbow umbrella or whatever you'd like to call it," he said easily. He didn't advertise his own sexuality to random people, even those he might employ, but all the staff had a good idea even if they didn't know outright.

"Yeah, we had some specials for Halloween, probably have some for Christmas too."

"Anyway, it was nice to meet you. I'll be in touch soon," he said, opening the door for her.

"Wonderful," she said. Sounded to her like he had everything in order, which was promising if she got on here.

She nodded. A place like this, she would be surprsied if she was one of the only ones.

Genie smiled warmly at him. "Thanks so much," she said. "I appreciate the opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you." She really did. She mentally crossed her fingers for luck. She headed out the door and down to get her bar skills tested.
