I've never been able to understand the muggle traditions of Guy Fawkes night. It always seemed horribly distasteful but recently its become downright untenable.

Yesterday evening does not rank high up on my most favourite public holidays of the year and my mood has likely been influenced by gaining a cold from my co-worker who sniffled and sneezed into her handkerchiefs like she was solely responsible for stemming the tide of snot from her ruby red festive nose.

You're putting way more thought into it than anyone who's actually going out to enjoy the fireworks is. Including me. I love fireworks. I went to a muggle display last night and I'm thinking of finding a magical one this weekend.

I wouldn't mind if the tradition of burning effigies disappeared. As long as we can keep toffee apples and fireworks and sparklers and roasting marshmallows over an open fire.

I put a lot of thought into everything - especially mass public celebrations such as that. It's always left a bitter taste in my mouth since I found out the true meaning of it - though as a child I did love the bright, colourful explosions.,

Those traditions are good! Along with cinder toffee and bonfire bangers and mash! Which magical one are you going to try and get to?

	I'm not particularly surprised. Sometimes it's nice to turn off the grown-up part of your mind and just enjoy the pretty pretty lights. Bonfire bangers and mash isn't one I've come across. A friend always raves about parkin and treacle toffee this time of year. I don't really know. Does Hogsmeade have a display? I haven't been there in a while. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	My family and I left town, so we missed the worst of it, luckily. Fireworks aren't among our favorite things, so it worked out well. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	It's less a time of year thing than something we do to keep close to each other. Camping is a good thing to help with that, we've found. It's a lot of fun. (Reply to this) (Parent)

	My impression is that there is perhaps a touch of gallows' humour in the tradition? Sometimes we laugh unnecessarily at something so that it does not disturb us too much. I'm sorry to hear that you've been ill - would you like me to ask Mum to send over some of her chicken soup? It has never failed to help me feel better when I've been under the weather. Perhaps but it is rather morbid. I had nightmares as a child about being tossed onto a bonfire so my reaction might be slightly biased.

No, no its perfectly fine. You know how it is with illness'; one just wants to wallow in bed and drink copious amounts of tea along with feeling sorry for oneself. All this magical ability and there's no charm to give you a hug? For shame.
