Who: Vikesh Moon and Gwenog Jones
What: Getting some fresh air after a victory
Where: Monument Alley Park
When: Saturday, November 1 - late evening
Status: Closed / Complete

It had been another victory for the Bats and Vikesh was feeling better about his place on the team. He'd joined some of his teammates to Finnigan's for a round of drinks (though insisting on something non-alcoholic for himself) and actually allowed himself to have a little fun. He didn't actually like being a killjoy, something he had the feeling some people thought him as, but it had been the way he'd been raised to be, and the way he'd devoted himself to being. It was a choice, and oftentimes a lonely one, so it was nice to occasionally let down his guard.

The crowd got to him, though, and he needed some room to breathe, even if the weather was starting to feel like autumn in full force. He stuffed his hands in his pockets as he walked around the park, enjoying the night and the view of the stars in the sky above.

"I don't think what I did was all that religious, but I'll come along sometime," she said, then smirked. "Doesn't mean I'll tell you all my training secrets, although you're welcome to quiz me on some of the team's moves if you like." Gwenog liked to keep what advantages she could, and it wasn't as if telling him to watch muggle TV and films for hints or ideas was revolutionary in her mind, and telling him about the ballet was never going to happen. Nor would it help him.

She'd automatically followed his uptick of speed, but as he issued the challenge she accelerated further, not bothering to reply. She could always apparate if she got behind, although she suspected they were relatively evenly matched and he wouldn't appreciate the move. She sped up to a pace she was sure she could use all the way with enough left for a kick of speed at the end, grinning at the challenge.

He refrained from telling her anything could be religious from the right point of view, one he definitely held. "Maybe another time for the quizzing, give me time to put together a list of questions. I don't always think well on the spot when I'm not on the pitch."

He was pleased when she sped up with him. He didn't care if he was in regular clothes, he just wanted to feel the air on his face. He kept speeding up, getting faster with every few steps, not working on any particular strategy - just aiming for Finnigan's and letting loose. He pumped his arms, evened out his breath and using all of his meditative training to do so.

The pub was in sight.

The feeling of wind on her face as she ran was just what Gwenog had wanted when she came out for her run, then to have the competitive option open to her too her heart began to soar. Moon was pulling ahead of her slightly but she knew her final sprint would be good.

As the pub came into sight properly she picked up her speed, pushing herself to run all out, her arms pumping and lungs starting to burn as the speed made it more difficult to breathe. This was the sort of thing she trained for, the hard work that brought her joy as she pushed her body to its limits.

Jones was catching up and the bar was getting closer. If he could hold her off for a few seconds more, then he'd be there first and would have won.

He didn't.

He slowed down and eventually stopped, his hands on his knees as he worked to slow his heartbeat and breathing. His body thrummed with energy the way it often did when he exercised, the feeling a familiar one yet always a welcome one. He looked up at Gwenog, and despite his 'loss', he had a huge grin on his face. "You, Jones, are good at what you do." He reached out a hand for a proper shake.

As she reached the pub she stuck her arms out just in time to catch herself from smacking into it at full speed. Taking a step back she sucked in a breath, turning to find she'd beaten Moon and her grin widened. She bent over sucking the air into her lungs, slowing down the rate of her heart and her breathing even as her muscles began to realise what a huge push she'd just put them through.

As she heard him speak she looked up and returned his grin, reaching over and shaking his hand. "Thanks. You too. That was a proper race. Had to push to win. Wasn't sure I would." Yes she'd had an advantage from already being in workout gear and warmed up, but a fellow pro athlete was going to give her a run for her money any day of the week.

"Well, we'll have to see if it translates into the next Bats/Harpies match," he said as they shook.

"I should be getting back before my teammates miss me too much, but you're welcome to come join us. I'll buy you a drink, it's the least I can do to congratulate you your victory."

"We'll see," she said, the challenge in her voice clear. The Bats were good opponents, it was a match that could easily go either way depending on the conditions and the players.

She gave a little shrug. "Thanks, but no thanks. I should cool down properly for one, and I don't fancy transfiguring my workout gear into something pub appropriate. See you again." She waved her hand in a salute-like wave and set off at a gentle trot back into the park.

He raised an eyebrow and watched her go, smirking to himself as she left the same way she'd arrived. He would definitely enjoy their next match, that's for sure.

Turning, he went back into Finnigan's to rejoin the celebration.
