Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: hermione granger, character: lavender brown

Who: Hermione and Lavender
What: Prank preparation
Where: Flat of Hermione and Harry
When: Sunday afternoon
Rating: SFW (will change if necessary but I doubt it)

Hermione didn't know what had gotten into her. Perhaps she'd been around the Weasley clan too long. A prank the style of what she had discussed with Lavender fit right in with something George and Fred, rest his soul, would have pulled.

Soon after returning from Battlescars she bid Harry farewell as he was off to dinner courtesy of Andromeda Tonks. She knew the invitation always included her as well but today she had told Harry she had plans to have dinner with another friend. Thankfully he hadn't pushed to find out who she was meeting that afternoon. She was already nervous enough that he'd catch her in the act.

Once he was gone she waited about ten minutes before shooting an owl to Lavender letting her know the coast was clear. She then went up to Harry's room and began the process of gathering his shoes together. It wasn't that there were a ton of pairs, he simply didn't keep them all tidily together. Once she was certain she'd found every pair except the pair he was currently wearing on his feet she laid them out on the coffee table and waited for her partner in crime to arrive.

When the owl arrived at Lavender's flat in Camden, she took the note and fed the owl a treat as a thank you, telling it to take its time going home as she wouldn't be sending a reply. She finished her last sip of tea and closed the window to keep out the draught while she was gone.

Lavender had already pulled together a selection of shoes that she thought might be suitable for Hermione's nefarious plans for the afternoon. In a strange way, she felt quite proud of Hermione for coming up with this idea, even if she had no idea what had come over her. Once she had put them in a bag, Lavender Apparated to Hermione's.

"Hi," she said with a smile when Hermione opened the door. "Are you ready for this?"

Hermione had never actually planned anything like this. In fact she didn't know what had gotten into her. Maybe it was the fact that Ron was feeling down on himself lately and she wanted to do something that would make him smile.

"Considering this is my first major prank I'll do my best," she said rubbing her hands together. "So what did you bring?" she asked eagerly knowing that her own practical shoe collection was anything but prank worthy.

Lavender held up her bag, grinning. "Well, I brought a selection. I didn't know whether you wanted to go outright crazy or vaguely sensible."

She eyed Harry's own collection of shoes. They weren't too bad, she supposed, though nothing special. Perhaps she would suggest to Hyperion that he should take Harry on a shopping trip. Actually, that wasn't a bad idea at all.

"I'm not sure if I can picture Harry in a pair like this, but I wasn't sure what you'd think." Lavender pulled out a pair of towering silver heels that had been purchased at Susan's urging. "Or we could go with a sort of classic, vintage sort of look." The next pair were red with slightly more modest heel and perfectly matched to a certain lipstick that she own. In fact, Lavender had worn them on more than one occasion with Cormac. But best not to tell Hermione that little titbit. "Here, you can take a look at the rest of them."

Hermione brought a hand to her chin as she watched Lavender pull the shoes out for display. "Insanely cute but no more than two inches in height." She picked up both the silver and the red. "We don't want him to break anything other than a heel if he has to take off running after someone."

At that she began to match the shoes up into sets that would give her the inspiration to create the perfect shoes for Harry. "So what had you telling Harry he ought not to borrow your shoes in the first place?"

"Cute I can definitely do." Lavender looked down at the shoes that she was currently wearing, then slipped them off, adding another option to the selection.

Lavender grinned. "I have to work Tuesday night, which means that I can't run duelling club. Harry offered to step in, and I put a note into my journal saying that Harry would be stepping into my shoes figuratively." She shrugged, still enjoying the idea of Harry in heels. "And obviously people starting wondering what it would be like if he were literally in my shoes." She gestured at the footwear in front of them. "And now we'll know."

Hermione nodded her head as she recalled the conversation. She had spent so much time lately focused on work related conversations that most of the conversations she'd had over the journals didn't register for long. She preferred face to face conversations. They were much more personal and created a memory to go along with the words that were spoken.

Hermione grabbed up the first pair of Harry's shoes and within moments they were stunningly silver. She then reached for another pair of heels and some cute sandals. "These two should go togeher nicely," she smiled and created a pair of semi-sensible shoes. "Though I do believe they need a bit more heel." She waved a hand over her work. "Care to assist?"

"Sure, I'll give it a go." Lavender pulled her wand from her handbag, finding it after a moment of fumbling. She wished that she had it in her holster, but she didn't like to wear it when she was off duty.

She looked at the heels carefully. Her transfiguration skills were okay, but she was normally more confident with charms. "I think a nice block heel for these." She waved her wand in a circling motion, concentrating on making the current flat heel grow until it was about two inches tall. "That should do it."

Hermione watched as Lavender worked on the shoe. She took note of the wand form that was used and noted the differences in how she would have completed the spell and how Lavender accomplished it. There would have been a time when she would have rolled her eyes and told Lavender she was doing it all wrong even though her method worked just as well as Hermione's. It was a sign of growth that she no longer nit picked the methodology behind the spell but rather admired the outcomes instead.

"Nice work," she smiled a little sadly. "Have you ever wondered how things might have been different if I had focused a bit more on building relationships than perfecting spell work while we were in school?" It wasn't that Hermione doubted the necessity for proper spell work, she had just taken to wondering how much she'd missed out on due to her persnickety nature.

Lavender hesitated, as surprised by the question as she had been by the whole shoe endeavour. "Well," she said carefully, "you did build relationships. You were just a little more selective about it. Which is not a bad thing at all."

She smiled encouragingly. "It might have been different, though. But who can really tell. I expect everyone probably has things like that that they wonder about."

Hermione nodded at Lavender's assessment of her selective nature. "Regardless, I'm glad we've become friendly now," she said taking out another set of shoes.

Thinking of relationships led her mind to drift back to the conversation about work she'd had with Ron. There was no way she would break his confidence, but she wondered if there was something more going on at work that what he'd said. "So then, other than Harry taking over Dueling for a night due to your schedule how are things in the wonderful Auror department?"

Laughing softly, Lavender nodded. "Me too," she agreed. Any petty grudges or what-have-you were well and truly in the past and she wanted them to stay there. Besides, it was much easier to be friendly without all the pressures of school.

"Um, all good as far as I'm aware," Lavender said, pulling a pair of Harry's shoes forward to be transformed. Wrinkling her nose, she cast a quick freshening charm on them. "I've been working with the Aurors a lot lately on a case. No drama in the last few weeks, as far as I'm aware, so that's always good." Or bad, depending on if there was something brewing, but she hoped now.

Hermione gave a simple nod as she watched Lavender work on the last pair of Harry's shoes. If there wasn't anything in particular going on she was at a loss. It worried her that Ron was thinking of making such a big move and she couldn't quite put her finger on why.

"Well, at least there will be a little excitement in the morning."

Lavender held up one of the finished shoes, pleased with the result. It wasn't a perfect replica, but it was close enough. Even Susan would probably have had trouble telling which were the originals at a glance. Of course, Lavender thought, Susan would most likely recognise Harry's new footwear in an instant.

"Yep. I can't wait. And if I can persuade someone to take photos, I absolutely will."

"Yes, photos are a definite must," Hermione said a bit of sadness in her voice. It always amazed her when something caught her off guard these days. She hadn't thought of Colin in awhile but the thought of Harry being the subject of a photo shoot definitely brought back memories.

Hearing the change in Hermione's tone, Lavender looked at her carefully. Something had come to mind, she would wager, but it was just subtle enough that mentioning it would probably be more annoying than nice.

"There's usually a camera laying around somewhere. For evidence and that sort of thing, you know?" She smiled wickedly. "And we'll definitely need evidence of Harry's pins looking lovely in his new shoes."

"I look forward to seeing them" she said with a giggle the smile on Lavender's face bringing her back into the present.

With that she glanced over at the clock and realized that Harry would be home before to much longer. "I'll get these up into his closet while you put your shoes away. Can't have the evidence out in the open when he gets home now can we?"

Lavender laughed. "Good plan." She waggled her wand teasingly. "You, Miss Granger, are very good at this being sneaky business. I kind of like it."
