Well, that was a start, anyway.
"Yeah. He's my kid. Turns eight in almost a month. Since we both feel like death on a biscuit, I'll save you the mental math. His mum and I were fifteen. And that's why I left after fifth year." Not that he expected her to remember him at all, much less remembering him leaving, alongside all the other students who left that year.
"She's a good mum. And really, I'm kind of a shit dad. I get him one weekend a month. But now that he's turning eight, there's this hearing...if I can prove sober for a month, and if I pass a drugs test, I get him two weekends a month. And I don't even know if that'd be good or bad."
This was more than he'd told anyone, probably, ever. So, in for a sickle, in for a galleon.
"I'm going to fail the drugs test too. Well, I'm going to rig it. With magic."
