What the Book? is holding a Halloween party for kids of all ages on October 31st, from 5pm to 8pm. Games, spooky stories and healthy but tasty treats! Costumes are encouraged!

Awhile back there was some interest in getting together a parent/child group of some sort. Is that something people would still be interested in?

Also, does anyone know of any decent martial arts studios around? I'm getting rusty.

Kai Li Fo kung fu is my soft style. It draws heavily from the Shaolin styles. I've also studied shukokai for a hard style. Oh, and along the way I've fooled with most weapons, but primarily the sword.

If you don't mind me asking, why would your grandmother disapprove of lessons?

You're welcome to drop by on the evenings I work with Pandora. Another opponent would be good.

Yes, I'm familiar with them, but haven't practiced them myself. I've got my second dan in Taekwando. Oh, swords! Those are fun.

Well, unless she's personally vetted you, she'd frown upon my taking instruction from anyone but her. She's a Saseong, and very particular over what constitutes proper instruction. She would kill me for letting myself get rusty, though.

What evenings are those? It'd depend on the store, and if I have proper babysitting for my son.

I've dabbled a little in Taekwando but no rank. Started with wizarding fencing when I was little and got into the oriental styles later.

I'm certainly not a Grand Master, but I did earn fifth dan in shukokai about a year ago. The kung fu style I picked up on trips to Hong Kong and isn't big on rank once you reach dan, but I'm authorized to teach. Lessons are always free, by the way, if that's an issue.

Generally I'm out of the country two or three days a week, but Dora is always around. You should get in touch with her and if you set something up I'll do my best to be there. She could do with seeing different styles and it wouldn't hurt her to do a little teaching, too. If a sitter is a problem I could probably bribe one of the office assistants to stand in.

Well, you're certainly industrious aren't you? Do you sleep?

I wasn't worried about cost, thank you. You're pretty presumptuous for someone who's never met me, and knows nothing about me.

Thanks, but I like to actually know the people watching my kid. I'll get in touch with Dora though, I'm always interested in sparring against people. Maybe I can knock you on your ass

Work, work out, sleep occasionally.

So... I seem to have stepped in it. Don't think you got what I was trying to say. The schools I'm from, lessons are always free. Unlike some, where you can more or less buy a rank.

Whatever you think best. My thought was to have the sitter there while you got a chance to get some sparring in.

Then those aren't real schools, are they?

Well, I'll think about it. Christopher has been asking me to learn, so it could be good for him to see it in action.
