Entry tags:ooc: plot post

So, the 7th Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts* is only two weekends away! Per Mercy's excellent suggestion, I'm thinking a Hogsmeade Village Fete on the Saturday, with some / all of the following:

- Tug of war
- Pet show (Rolf? Luna?)
- Face painting (Dean? Bryony?)
- Shop/business stalls (Astro Apothecary? Inside and Out? McLaggen Magical Sports? Pinky's Ink? Sweet Nothings?)
- Activity stalls / activities (Gobstones? Duelling Club?** Chess?)
- Quidditch / flying displays (think Red Arrows) (Terry? Roger? Marcus? Gwenog? Viktor? Aidan? Finbar? Richard? Oliver?)
- Performances (Ben?)
- Beer tent
- Games of chance (made more magical, but similar to coconut shy, tom bola etc)
- Post Owl Trials (like sheepdog trials)

Then, on Sunday, something more sombre, commemorating the fallen, etc. Not sure what yet as the Wizarding World doesn't exactly seem to have churches. Maybe a moment of silence, or maybe we'll steal that scene from the movie***, with everyone raising a light? I'm also thinking of doing a special Battlescars as well, but not sure of the details yet. Ideas welcome!

If you've got any ideas, comment below! If you want to sign your characters up for any of the things mentioned above, you can do that too - or else I will put up an IC post as well in the next day or too.

*Anyone got a more concise name for that? I've seen Victory Day used, but it's not canon as far as I know.
**Could the Hogsmeade/Finnigan's tournament be part of this?
***Is it mentioned in the book? I can't remember

This sounds like a great idea!

Melinda and Sweet Nothings will be there. Possibly Finbar for the Quidditch thing.

I think I'll keep Alicia and Rose as visitors, though Alicia is available if there's a need for a medical thing (like with the Quidditch, for instance).

Yay!! Marcus is open to anything to do with flying, and Stacey would love to have a booth/stall for the shop.

Zacharias will sit at the booth and look grumpy and scare off customers. Except not really lol He wouldn't be grumpy about it but may bug her.

Also, there's a possibility Tristan will be there, so there's a possibility for awkward as fuck Marcus and Tristan interactions again lol

The duelling tournament absolutely can be part of this! Maybe next week or the week after the special topic at Duelling Club can be something like duelling etiquette or something?

As for the Sunday, is there an actual monument in Monument Alley? I can't remember. Maybe there's wreaths laid or something?

Sounds like a plan!

And yes, there is, there's a phoenix statue opposite the pub. Something based there could definitely work, even if it's not wreaths exactly. Hummm. I will continue to ponder.

I'm not sure I like Victory Day purely because of how it might put off the more Dark aligned from taking part. Especially those who were coerced. Although I guess such is life.

That said Charlie is happy to be a general spectator.

Dean would be happy to do some face painting, in shifts maybe, not a whole afternoon. And Gwenog would participate in a flying thing, but otherwise be happier just attending.

The wands up thing isn't in the books iirc, but I love it in the films and I'd like that.

Yeah, I have the same concerns about Victory Day. Peace Day? Commemoration Day? I'm reluctant to use Armistice or Remembrance since those are already things in the muggle world.

Absolutely, I was thinking Dean/Bryony (and maybe Braith or some other NPC artists) could take shifts.

I'm also not a fan of it being called Victory Day. I can't think of anything else right now, but I'll put that thinking cap on and try to help there... Victory Day just seems a bit too impersonal and Muggle for the Wizarding World, especially since it seems like a generally small community compared to the Muggle world.

If the dueling tournament is part of it, Tristan will be there to commentate! Otherwise, he may or may not show, and if he is there to commentate, he may not or may not linger. (Actually could see some negative reactions from some people for his presence.)

For the post owl trials, it isn't in his app for various reasons, but originally, one side of Zacharias's parents had both show and race horses of the winged (and sometimes non-winged) variety. It's something I've kept in the back of my mind and would be cool with saying that the family could have some kind of showing or event or whatever if you want to add to the spectacle.

And Astoria will be there! Debating on if she'd have a little booth showing off some of the things she's made and reaching out for further commissions and sales. Assuming that'd be okay, which I don't know if it would lol

Yeah, I don't like Victory day either. It seems too one-sided for me. Commemoration Day? I mean, that's kind of unspecific, but it sounds more official.

Hurrah commentating Tristan!

And ooh, yes, definitely winged horses! Maybe they could give rides, like we have donkey rides at fetes here? Or is that too casual for a family like the Smiths?

That would be fine!

I idly thought of Remembrance Day since I imagine there'd be a lot of things to remember. Those who fought and fell on both sides. What led to this in the first place. Etc. I've been all over the place today so that's all I got right now lol

He is happy to commentate! And I can't see him doing anything else but commentating official Dueling Club events, if only because I can't see the Ministry being cool with it, and he wants to stay out of prison lol

Although it's casual, I can't imagine they'd flat out say no. I'm sure there are horses they have that would work well at giving rides. Probably nothing more than ten or twenty feet off the ground and a single, leisurely lap around the village or something with someone on a lead horse, but enough that you feel you're getting your money's worth but that your kid isn't about to go careening off into the trees. Also, I'm sure there are spells to keep them safe. I could see it being arranged, and it'd also be a subtly good way to advertise their horses lol

Yay! She may drag Bryony over to hang out when she's on break from face painting and give her something fun for hanging out with her if she does lol

Okay so I'm not good with Latin so I had to Google but what about "Victis Honor Day" which I think victis honor means "honor to the vanquished" which I think could both mark the end of the war and mark respect and remembrance for those who were "vanquished" or died in the war. And we all know there's lots of Latin in HP so it fits that aspect, too.

Seeing the comments on the name "Victory Day," would something like "Day of Remembrance" fit?

Mils might come, depending on what Dora and Pansy decide to do. I'd have to talk to Jasmine, but maybe Mils and Dora could attend under glamours, depending on how much (and what kind of) security there was. Especially given Dora's recent encounter with a customer. It'd be good publicity for the Bulstrodes to be seen there, but there's not really any way for them to contribute other than monetarily, and I'm not sure how they could go about doing that. Any suggestions on that are welcome!

Rich thinks Mils should at least do token representation for the Brit Expat shops and other stuff she's involved in through IE. He'll probably be hanging out the the Bluebottle Brooms contingent at least part of the day, maybe giving rides and doing a demo flight or two on a racing broom. But when he's not in the air he'd be happy to escort Mils and Dora.

That's a good point. Were you thinking a booth/table? I see a way she could do that -- she does also carry business cards on her all the time, and she could talk to different vendors whilst walking around the event, if that would be more in-line with how IE handles publicity.

Brochures and business cards? We never did discuss what Mils will be calling her chain of expat shops. Bit of Britain? With a back room or Wizarding stuff only someone with a wand can see? Whatever seems best to her. This is Rich being hands off and letting Mils develop a new line of business.

He's not hot on the idea of Dora going in disguise, but will go along with whatever the girls want to do.

Yeah, Dora might come if she had Mils with her, and probably while she at least was under a glamour.

Depending on how Mils goes ahead to represent IE/some of her clients, Dora could possibly help her out with that too for a little bit? She'd be happy to help Dora with any glamour-work she'd like, to make her more at-ease.

She'd love to help out, so long as Dora doesn't mind a disguise. I think she's feeling vulnerable right now. Mils can pick it out for her, if she wants -- just something to help her along in a potentially hostile crowd.

I'm concerned that 'Remembrance Day' is already a thing. Commemoration Day, maybe?

Ooh, I hadn't thought about security. Probably not too much?

The Bullstrodes can definitely contribute some money, even if we leave it unspecific as to how.

Oh, yes, that's true. I hadn't thought of that. Commemoration Day or Peace Day (like you suggested elsewhere) would work very well, I think.

There would probably be Aurors about in some show of security, but maybe some glamour-work wouldn't raise a lot of eyebrows, since I suppose they're popular at big events (Look, my hair sparkles! Look, my nose shines! That sort of thing.) Given Dora's strength at Charms, possibly some of it would be subtle enough that it wouldn't even really raise notice? I was honestly just curious. :)

The Bulstrodes will send an appropriate amount then, to the appropriate people, in an appropriate amount of time. Let us always be appropriate! <snerk>

Rolf would love to hold something with the animals, as well as submit some of his owls for the post owl trials.

Viktor would definitely join a Quidditch thing and/or a flying display.

Dora would probably hide out, unless her aunt forced her to care for a booth, because there's so much negativity from so many still coming her way. Or she might attend under a glamour -- she lost people she cared for on both sides.

Genie would attend to have fun, I expect, and to commemorate the fallen.

With the naming of the day thing we could go with 'Down Wands Day' or something along those lines to make it sound more Wizardy (although that sounds a bit kinky) I'm sure someone else could come up with something better along those lines, thinking is not my forte

Theo would only be out and about if he was coerced by a friend, otherwise he'd be curled up at home under the bed. I like the idea of a special Battlescars though!
