Log: Evan & Remus WHO: Evan Rosier & Remus Lupin WHEN: Wednesday, early evening WHERE: Outside Boof SUMMARY: A quick encounter and conversation. WARNINGS: None
Stepping out the front door of Boof, Evan stopped on the stairs and took a moment to button up her coat as the temperature seemed to have dropped while she was inside the store. She then hiked her purse back on up shoulder, stepped off the storefront stairs, and slammed directly into a person who had the nerve to get in her way. Yelping, she fell backward onto the street, her purse and shopping bag falling out of her grip.
“Watch where you’re going!”
Remus hadn't been waiting for Evan. Well, not really. It wasn't as though he hadn't been paying attention to her movements for the last few days as he tried to figure out something to do to her. Or about her. Or - whatever. But when he saw that she was going into Boof - a regular stop for her - he figured he ought to take advantage of the situation. So if he didn't quite get out of the way in time when she came out of the store, well ...
"Oof," he grunted. "Sorry," Remus said quickly, looking over at her with a nervous smile. "Oh, Evan, hullo," he continued, as though he hadn't known exactly who it was who had run into him. He crouched down to begin gathering up her shopping bag and purse.
Her initial response was to say something catty in return, but she reined it in quickly enough as she started to stand. “Remus.” She sounded neither happy nor annoyed to realize it was him. “Long time, no see, right?”
"Yeah, it's - been a while." He managed a better smile and nodded, finishing up helping her with her things, not without slipping a small gold marble inside her purse. She'd never see the marble - not once the spell took effect in a few hours - but he still worried about the action. He stood up and held the purse and bag out for her. "Sorry about - this."
“Yeah. Well.” The corners of her lips twitched as she reached for her bags and took them back without so much as a thanks or a second look. “I’m kind of surprised to see you out and about all things considered. If You Know Who Mentioned me by name, I would be halfway to Timbuktu by now.”
Remus straightened and rubbed the back of his neck, shrugged. "Oh, well, maybe I should be but you know, I'm not really that scared of him or anything. At least - probably not the way You Know Who expected me to be. Not really sure running away would make much of a difference in the end."
“You’re not scared of him?” Evan asked as she tilted her head to one side. There was genuine curiosity in her voice, mainly because she was terrified of the Dark Lord on a good day, and she couldn’t quite tell if Remus was being serious or not. “I don’t know if that’s brave or stupid all things considered.”
He shrugged a little. "I guess that wasn't really the right word. Of course I'm scared of him but it's more like - I'm not going to be intimidated by him?" Because that was certainly true. "I mean, what, am I supposed to actually run away or hole myself up somewhere until - when?" Remus gave Evan a small, sheepish smile.
“Once again, I don’t know if that’s brave or stupid,” Evan answered as she pushed her purse back up her shoulder. She was honestly leaning mostly toward stupid, but that probably wasn’t the most inconspicuous thing to say during this conversation. “Good luck with that, I guess.”
Remus straightened and gave her a little wave. "Uh - have a nice day, Evan," he said, shoving his hands in his coat pockets. "I'll see you around."
“If you’re lucky!” Evan said with a smile as she turned on the balls of her feet and made her way into the crowd of Diagon Alley.
