WHO: Dorcas Meadowes and Gabriel Proudfoot WHAT: Stealing cursed artifacts from the MILF WHEN: Tonight WHERE: The MILF WARNINGS: None!
"What do you think this one does?" Dorcas asked Gabriel, nodding down to the antique brass smoking pipe she was hovering off the shelf and into a small bag, not wanting to touch it with bare hands. It was highly possible that the Magical Institute for Learning and Fun had cast some sort of spell on the dark artifacts that were on display in their Magical History: The Knockturning of the Tide exhibit to ensure that the curses contained in them would be temporarily dulled while they were in reach of the public. Then again, there was a sign warning people not to touch the things on display, and it was very possible that it could be due to the fact that they were cursed in a way that could kill you, rather than just wanting to avoid getting any smudges on them.
He had just finished floating a rather ordinary drinking glass into his his own bag when Dorcas asked her question. Turning his attention toward her, Gabby gave the pipe a quick look. It didn’t seem like the type of object that could do harm to a person, but then again neither did the drinking glass.
“Something that will probably kill you,” he answered in a quiet voice. “Burn you from the inside out. Maybe makes your lungs disappear. Something awful like that.”
"That sounds fantastic," Dorcas replied, her eyes wide with fascination and horror as she warded the bag up, not wanting to chance it falling out. "If we figure out that's what it really does maybe I'll keep that one for someone who really deserves it." Snorting softly, Gabby nodded in agreement with the statement. She unfolded another artifact bag, trying to suss out what would be both the easiest and the most effective artifact to nab.
"I wish we had the space for that cane-looking thing. What even is that, a rainstick?" she asked, probably getting a little bit too close to something what was most likely very capable of killing her.
“Maybe it’s a rainstick that causes lightning to strike a certain target,” Gabby offered as he turned his attention to a rather peculiarly looking pocket watch. It was small enough to fit in his bag, so he raised his wand to do just that. “A cursed object for the discerning purist who doesn’t like to truly get their hands dirty.”
"There was that case a few years ago where someone ended up struck by lightning while in their basement. Like there's the spell that could do that, yeah, but maybe it would let people come at it at a distance…" Dorcas wondered, trailing off as she continued trying to figure out if she could shrink the object down to take with them.
From down the corridor, though, she heard the sound of something banging against the wall and froze, her wand still hovering an old snuff box above her bag in front of her. "Shit," she whispered under her breath, glancing down at her watch. "We were still supposed to have like seventeen minutes before the guards came through here."
“Do you think they know we’re here?” Gabby asked as his muscles started to tense and the hairs on the back of his neck began to stand.
Dorcas stayed frozen -- maybe if they didn't move, they wouldn't be able to see them??? -- as she tried to listen for steps approaching. "Nah, they'd be running this way if they knew we were here," she whispered back, shaking her head. She quickly turned her attention back to the display case, working with much more haste to dump as many artifacts as possible into her bag. "Even if they don't know we're here, though, I don't think we should stick around."
Nodding his head, Gabby followed her actions and began dumping smaller items into his bag starting with the pocket watch. It worked in his favor at first, but in his haste a tarnished salad fork fell to the ground with a clatter that seemed louder than a normal fork.
“Okay. I think we really need to go now.”
"What's that there!?" Dorcas heard shouted down the hall, and a flash of a Lumos came peeling through the corridor in their direction.
"Shit, run run run, go go go," Dorcas hissed hastily, swishing the last of the objects on the shelf into her bag and making a mad run in the opposite direction, the artifacts clanging and jangling together in her bag to the point where the noise obviously gave away their location. A quick Silencio took care of that, but not before she overheard the guard's voice booming "we need backup in Magic History" through the museum.
Following her lead, he silenced his own bag as they two ran past exhibits, dodging podiums as the yelling from the guards. Something fell from his bag at a certain pout, but he kept running until they hit the front doors and pushed through them to the outside. “Catch up with you later?” Gabby asked as he glanced at the doors.
"See you on the other side," Dorcas called after him, giving one last glance back towards the MILF guards, dodging a spell via apparation as she vanished with a crack.
