Despite his internal misgivings, it was hard not to feel a surge of fatherly-type pride at seeing her so grown up and doing so well. He was a bit wistful about her not needing him as much now, but she still turned to him for guidance and direction when she needed it.
"Hello, Buffy. I knew that you'd want to talk once I arrived and got settled." he said. He needed what the younger generation liked to refer to as a 'run down'-not that he understood, even now, why they twisted the English language so much. He'd just learned to live with it.
"I gather you're doing quite well so far...it's still difficult to believe how far you've come." She had grown into a fine woman, seeming to look older-in a maturity and wisdom sense-every time he saw her.
He was going to voice some opinions about the situation, about Angel and the firm during this discussion, but he planned to be careful; not desiring an argument with her as soon as he arrived.
"I know you're anxious to get down to business" he said. He was ready to let her brief him and see if he could start offering assistance somewhere. He was aware of the slayer problem, and it worried him. It was hard enough getting these girls into training without having to tell them someone was already trying to kill them.
It was also a rather painful reminder of his experiences with Angelus in the past. Even now, nightmares of it still surfaced on rare occasions, and he still carried some of the pain of the Jenny incident inside of himself.
