Hello!
Me again! Heather here! This is Maks and I will try and keep this short. That'll never work. XD

He's a Durmstrang man, who came over for the Triwizard. He used to play Quidditch with Viktor and Anzelm on their school team. He's Russian and goes by Maks, never Ivan. His family is old money and actually comes from the Russian aristocracy. Remember how the Malfoys tried to keep in with the Muggle royalty? That's a game the Volkovs played and won. Or they did, until the downfall of the Tsar when his great great grandfather was brutally murdered in front of his entire family. So, no hang ups there, then.

The Triwizard was a fun time for him because it set him up for his future career. He is now an interpreter and translator for the ICW, British seats, as he speaks five languages - Russian, English, Norwegian, Finnish and Swedish. Being something of a Scandinavia specialist, he's picking up Danish in his spare time because he's totally normal, you guys!

He and Taryn have been engaged for two years and they plan to marry in April 2006 at his family's estate in Russia. Right now, they have a place in the Cotswolds while they commute in opposite directions. They attended the Yule Ball together and dated ever since. When the war broke out, she went to stay with his family in Russia to keep her safe from Umbridge and her machinations - My head canon is that either Viktor (via Fleur) or Fleur herself tipped them off.

Any way, PLOT WITH ME IM EXCITED.

Yeah, brevity might be the soul of wit, but it's night impossible to achieve. :P

The McLaggens are old money too, and whenever I have to write a bio for one of them I mention that they are to Ireland what the Malfoys are to England (I can imagine Scotland and Wales refusing any association :P), so that's one potential topic of conversation. Not that either Cormac or Declan are very prone to talking genealogy nowadays. :P

Tiago was in the same year as Maks during the Triwizard year, so they'll know each other. He's also into languages, though he prefers the Romance ones.

I'm drawing a blank regarding the others, but they'll be interacting with Maks with absolute certainty. Greg is a little hesitant, though, since there's a chance he was told off by Maks in the past. :D

I'm sure we can come up with some way for it to be part of conversation even if it wasn't them going on about how much money their family has XD I'm sure the Volkovs went looking for marriage partners abroad at some point in their history when Russia wasn't an option, so maybe the families are on each other's radar, even if there's no familial link? And hey, a McLaggen could always have been the Gryffindor who high fived him for telling off Crabbe-or-Goyle...

I imagine the Durmstrangers and BB kids knew each other fairly well, being the outsiders, so yay connections!

Sorry Greg, he just really hated the likes of the Malfoys, giving all the old families of Europe a bad name XD I imagine they'd be well past it now though, even if it was him ;)

Well, I have an English Lit degree, you know. Shakespeare references tend to be a side-effect. ;)

The McLaggens also went looking for marriage partners abroad at some point as they, unlike some other purebloods, frowned at the idea of inbreeding, so the two families knowing of each other does make sense. And heh, Cormac would certainly have the cheek to high-five a Durmstranger under the circumstances.

Also, it tickles me that Maks' sister is called Valentina, given that we also have Alison's Valentina as one of the BB girls.

Greg will be relieved. He's like a kicked puppy when these things happen.

Whoop whoop! You know mine, so that saves time. Let's look at interactions.

Yakov - well! They would have been dorm-mates at Durmstrang so would certainly know each other. Russia ftw! Yakov is happy to be friends with anyone who's nice to him, so if that includes Maks, then they can be friends! Maks, feel free to kick Yakov up the arse a bit for being so lazy.

Valentina will have known him from that year at Hogwarts. She's quite shy, though, and I think may have been a bit intimidated by him. But now she works as an interpreter too. She works for an agency and tends to travel around for different short-term projects, but she may have had to fill in at the ICW in cases of sickness or something? Other than English they have absolutely no overlap in languages! She's also one to learn languages in her spare time so maybe at some point they could try and teach each other, if they become friendly.

Glenys I am sure will be friends with Taryn, so there is that connection there. As she was Head-girl in the Triwizard year, she would also have been fairly noticeable and made a point of being friendly to all of the foreign students that year, wanting to help them settle in. So they could be friendly?

Myron is famous, hi. Maks might remember him from the Yule Ball.

Luke would have been in his classes in the Tri-wizard year, but the likelihood of him speaking to Maks is slim.

Lee is maybe not as noticeable as the twins, but he could be known by association. As there was no Quidditch in the triwazard year, Maks won't know him from that.

Mel tends to be on good terms with the foreign students as she was quite chatty with them. Do you think Vaks would have joined her model ICW that year? He could have represented Russia :-) In any case, she also works for the ICW as an undersecretary to one of the British peeps, so they will have plenty of opportunities to interact. I'm quite excited for her to have a colleague in play! Maybe they could be friends?

Alex is sulky and doesn't care about Maks.

Lucy thinks he's handsome. He's the sort of person her daddy would have tried to marry her off to, back when he was alive. I don't see much interaction there, unless Lucy and Taryn are friends.

Evan - yeah, not much.

Jade - again, not much. Everyone seems to know Jade at the moment though because of what she did to Zoe :-(

Romilda - I can see her totally fluttering her eyelashes at the Durmstrang boys, back in the day. Of course, she would have been 13...

Dean - I don't see much interaction with Dean, but I'm sure they'd get on.

Barney will be friendly because he's Barney.

Sally thinks he's hot. Maybe she could help dress him if he comes into Twilfit and Tattings?

Yakovvvvv! Maks has complex feelings about the mother country but damn it he's going to keep an eye out for his countrymen. Yakov would definitely have been invited to the Volkov estate if they were friends :)

Maks is definitely the charming and polite sort rather than brash and boorish, so he would be nice to Valentina :)

I vote friendly! of course, anything related to what Glenys knows absolutely up their relationship I'll leave up to Squeaks :)

Brb, dying at the thought of any of mine interacting with Myron XD

Luke, Alex, Dean, Barney and Evan are possibly random interaction cases but that's cool too!

As for Mel, it might depend on how much she knows about his background and what her feelings are about the aristocracy? Maks doesn't refer to his family's wealth and titles while in the UK but the knowledge might be out there? He's one for working hard and doing the right thing, anyway, and of course he's a pureblood engaged to a muggleborn too. :)

Ha ha, if Maks hadn't come home to Russia being in a relationship with a certain Muggleborn Welsh girl I have no doubt that his grandparents would have tried a similar stunt with him ;) if it's any consolation, Lucy, he probably would have flirted with you if Taryn hadn't already caught him ;)

Maks doesn't know her, doesn't really know Zoe so would be interesting if they were on fairly polite terms and then someone told him. He is wealthy and I imagine he does have an accountant somewhere...

Sorry Romilda, he isn't into cradle snatching... Too busy sneaking Taryn onto the Durmstrang ship for privacy!

Sally, he's definitely more of a Twilfitt gentleman than a Malkin one, so he will be there spending good money on robes on a frequent basis ;)

No, Yakov isn`t particularly patriotic either, to be fair, but sharing a dorm is as good a reason as any to be friends.

Maybe with Valentina we could play out her temping at the ICW and him being nice and we can go from there.

Mel isn`t an inverse snob or anything, she doesn`t hold it against people for being born into wealth or status. As far as she`s concerned, it`s what you do with that money that`s important.

I don't see a whole lot of overlap with my characters because they're all wee babbies. My two oldest characters (Demz and Quentin) would have been third years during the triwizard tournement, SO...

However, I think Quentin might have some overlap just based on the fact that he's rooming with Yakov. Quentin also feels superior about languages, but he only speaks three. English, French, and Hebrew. So, he doesn't actually speak more languages than Yakov, but Q is just really good at feeling superior.

Sean will also kind of be buddies with Taryn, and thinks that Maks is super fine.
