This isn't right! Her brained screamed at her as she drew in lungful after lungful of ragged breaths. Death wasn't supposed to hurt like this. Death wasn't supposed to hurt at all. It was supposed to be an end to everything. A finality, a calm after the storm so to speak and yet it felt as though she were still trapped, still caught inside of a storm that using her body as a personal battering ram. Something was wrong, insanely wrong but the thousand million thoughts racing through her head prevented her from trying to figure out what it was.
Hesper should have known though that she wouldn't have been allowed to suffer for very long. She should have known that he would have made good on his knight in shining armour comment for one moment she felt like she was lost, overwhelmed from it all, pain making her want to do nothing more than curl up and die as she should have and in the next he was there. A hand on her head, a voice in her ear, a welcomed relief to it all. It didn't stop the pain nor did it make the confusion nor the cold go away but for a brief moment things felt right. There was nothing more than the two of him. Nothing more than him there doing what he had always done for her, even if she had been too blind, too stubborn, too what the fuck ever to realize what he was doing.
Unwilling to uncurl from the position her body had moved into her arm shot out, a hand wrapping around his own arm as she tugged him closer, unwilling to be away from him but not wanting to leave herself open and vulnerable either. She had done that once before and look where it had landed her. In a cold room, on a cold table, in pain and horribly confused.
As she tugged him closer her body shifted slightly towards him, his name a soft murmur to pass her lips as she still refused to open her eyes, refused to let in any more pain but she didn't want to be away from him either. He was there, she could feel him and hear him and even though she didn't understand and was horribly confused his being there was more than enough for her right then and there in that moment.
