Mind Your Mind [closed to Itachi and Ren] [Apr. 13th, 2008|09:41 pm]

The good thing about staying up all hours of the night to do research was that there was no one around to make noise or distract Ren. It may have been ungodly hours and she may or may not have been in the same clothes as the day before but at least she could concentrate on the multitude of books in front of her. Legs curled under her, the red head blinked blearily at the pages and pages of notes she had written throughout the night. The handwriting had gone from impeccably neat and small to sloppy and almost illegible. Her hands were cramped from holding up the heavy materials on her lap and her back was screaming murder from leaning down for hours at a time to write on her notepad which was on the tiny coffee table in front of her. Her hair, frizzy from lack of care, had seen much better days but Ren didn't do more than brush it back and stick a pen in it as not to annoy her. She had planned to cut out early and make herself look human, maybe even getting in a few hours of sleep, but before she knew it the sun was peeking over the horizon and she was still glued to her research.

It was research for her own knowledge (since the books had been taken out from the local library-- nothing too secretive was kept there) but it almost always helped with her work. Books ranging from adolescent psychology to mental diseases to torture and interrogation surrounded her; Ren could never get enough. There were example cases upon cases that she could learn from, perfect even. Would T&I be grateful to get information in the shortest amount of time possible? Quick, painless, and easy was the nicest way to do things though some interrogators preferred the dirty and messy route. It got her mind off of her own life for a few hours, the lack of relationships, the lack of familial warmth, and even the lack of friendly outings, so Ren didn't mind the work at all.

The human mind. It was interesting. It was sadistic. It was her life, whether she liked it or not.

With a sigh, she rubbed her eyes and yawned, wondering what time it was. Her stomach rumbled unhappily. When was the last time she ate something that wasn't in a wrapper? Nights like these were going to be the end of her, one of these days. Coffee, at least, would keep her going.

As You Were [Open] [Feb. 9th, 2008|07:15 am]

Sumire was about a week behind New Year's celebrations proper. It didn't matter too terribly much, of course. She'd gone and cleaned the snow out of her mother's name, burnt the incense and left an offering (because who else had more fun during New Year's than their lively mother?). Now, she was walking up the snowy street with her elder brother, arm in arm. The two Murakami were almost painfully similar to each other, despite her brother height, and their genders. The older man kept his hair up in a queue, bound tight with red cord.

"You know, I don't like having to drop you off here," her brother told her quietly. "It feels like I'm leaving you at the kindergarten." Murakami Aoi glanced at the shadowy white building. Whether it was the fact that he hated giving his little sister up into the "loving" arms of ANBU (or Arakaki-sama, as the case may be) or that he knew he wouldn't see her for weeks, Sumire couldn't say. Her brother frowned at the building like it had taken his lunch money.

Silly older brothers.

"You know, considering how some of the agents act, Nii-sama, it's like a big kindergarten," Sumire agreed and tossed her hair behind her shoulders with a mitten-covered hand. "All the idiots shrieking and blithering on at all hours. It's enough to make me want to kick someone in the teeth."

"Sumi'e." Aoi gave his sister the same pale-eyed look she chastised Ren with.

"Yes, I know. Better to not speak of those that cannot control themselves," she muttered, cowed.

"You could always move back home, to Hanagumori, and not live in the complex," Aoi suggested as the rounded the corner. It would be best for her anyway, wouldn't it? He wouldn't have to worry about her defending her honor from some cruel, bloodthirsty sexual deviant. The fact that Sumire had taken care of her self for nearly four years and outranked him as a jounin was irrelevant, she was still his little sister.

"Not even if Hokage-sama got on his knees and begged me," Sumire replied sternly. "And don't you go planting ideas in anyone's head at home that it would be a good idea, either, Nii-sama." The building was insight now, rising up out of the darkness like a vicious creature that ate good girls and spat out vicious monsters. Aoi's frown deepened.

"Fine, but don't say I haven't suggested it." He kissed her temple and her forehead as they stood before the building.

"Aoi-niisama..." Sumire half-whined. "I'm not ten anymore."

"Pah, you'll always be ten to me," he grinned and tweaked a long bang. Sumire puffed her cheeks in frustration at him. "See you in a few weeks."

"Yes, see you, onii-sama. Have a good time with Karin-san, okay?" Sumire replied watching her brother walk down the street and get swept into a crowd of passerby. She straightened her shoulders, wiped that sweet, honeyed look from her face and turned on her heel to face the building. "Hmph."

It was time to go to work. She hoped no one had seen her brother's act of affection, and wondered if she might be knocking people out with the sensu in her jacket pocket.

Paperwork and Candy Goodness, Oh My! [closed to Raidou and Ren] [Feb. 1st, 2008|10:22 pm]

It wasn't often that Raidou requested anything from her, especially information, considering he was mostly an in-field agent but that just meant Ren had to world all the harder to put her notes together. It was silly to even worry-- she was meticulous in her work. She loved her work and took the utmost care with her research, not just for the purpose of having other agents be able to read it but because she really adored it. She had spent nearly half an hour gathering the files and papers together on the criminal Raidou wanted an update on, adding little notes and post-its (some making their way into her hair or on her clothes) to make sure that Raidou could clearly understand all of the language and technical terms used. Not that she thought he was stupid and she was super smart or anything but she just wanted to be as helpful as she could.

Loaded down with the volumes of notes in her in her arms, Ren meandered her way up the stairs, teetering dangerously every so often. She had nearly bumped into two ANBU members running down the stairs but managed to get up all the way without killing herself or anyone. Luckily Raidou lived right near her, so once she was finished talking with him, she could go back to her room to cook dinner. Researching always did make her hungry.

"Excuse me~" she called, tapping on Raidou's door with her foot since her arms were full. "Raidou-san~ Are you in there?"
