He felt horrible about having to greet her this way after being away from her for so long and his expression made that obvious. He was glad to hear that she had been doing alright, keeping herself occupied, trying not to worry about things, but his own stomach lurched when she reacted to his news. He was overwhelmed with a peculiar feeling and reached his own hand out to take hers. There was nothing he could say that would make her feel better, he knew this, and he felt terrible about it. "If you need...anything at all, I'll be here for you. I'm not going anywhere until I know you're alright," he said quietly, looking up from his hands.
Vaan hoped he wasn't being too forward, or assuming too much, but he wanted nothing more than for Gabrielle to be okay. His stomach felt like it was full of lead once she started worrying and he stood from his chair when she offered tea. It was odd for Vaan to see her fussing over him rather than thinking of her brother and his face showed this. "I'm fine Gabrielle, are you sure you're alright?" he asked, stooping down to look into her eyes.
He made a mental note to go looking for Domenic as soon as he was finished here. If there was a chance of finding him, it'd have to be sooner rather than later and Vaan could travel faster than any of the King's men. Even the best riders were slower than Selvaan on a bad day. If finding Domenic meant Gabrielle's happiness, he would give all of his effort to make it happen.
