"Of course I am. I- there's nowhere else I'd be on a night like this, really," she said, frowning slightly in confusion. Gabby watched as he dried off, then followed him into the other room.
Her heart seemed to drop into her stomach when he said he'd been better- she suddenly had a feeling that this was not going to be one of his usual pleasant visits. Her frown deepened, and she carefully took a seat near him, bringing a hand up to wave dismissively at his apology. "It's- I wasn't sleeping at all. I'd been reading, so you're perfectly fine. And I've been- I've been alright, all things considered." Why was he asking her such questions? What had happened?
She was completely taken aback by his next words, her hand coming up to her heart when he said that he hadn't seen her brother. "I- no." Her voice was soft, barely above a whisper and she shook her head, slowly. "No, he can't- he has to be alright." She couldn't bear to lose him, too. Who else did she have without her brother? Gabby found herself blinking back tears in the next moment as her gaze moved to the fire in the fireplace, watching the flames crackle and pop. He had to be alive. She would feel it if he wasn't, wouldn't she?
She wasn't sure how long she stared- it probably wasn't more than a minute or so- before she pulled her thoughts back to herself and blinked, looking back to Vaan. "I- I'm sorry. I- thank you for telling me. It's- you're right. He has to be okay. He has to be." She fell quiet for another moment, then looked back to him. "And- and you? I know you've said you've been better, but- did you suffer any injury or- oh, where are my manners? Can I get you some tea, or something to eat? You must be cold after being so wet a few moments ago!"
