Vaan hadn't realised he'd been holding his breath the entire time he had been waiting and when she opened the door he sighed in relief, "Thank the gods you're home." He almost smiled at her offering to take his coat, always so polite, but fought the urge and thanked her. Producing his baton he quickly dried himself and smoothed down his hair, making his way into the sitting room.
"I've been better," he replied, giving her a sidelong glance, "Please sit." He himself had taken the chair closest the fireplace and was extending his hand toward the one next to him. "Again, I'm sorry if I woke you," he apologised, his hands folding in his lap, "Have you been alright?" He knew asking these simple questions and avoiding the real issue was going to drive her crazy, but always formalities first. Vaan was of course concerned for her safety and wanted to make absolutely sure she was alright here by herself. Now that the mission had failed, he would be around more often to watch over her.
His stomach seemed to be twisting itself in knots and he was becoming frustrated with all of this seemingly human-like experiences he had been going through recently. He wanted to be more human, of course, but the range of emotions was startling. "The mission failed Gabby. As far as I know I'm the only one who has returned to Greenville," he stated this numbly, almost without feeling, but when he looked up to meet her gaze it was apparent in his eyes that he was just as saddened as Gabrielle would be. "I--I'm so sorry," he said, knowing she would immediately think of her brother, "I'm sure Domenic made it out alright, I didn't find him after searching for a good number of hours. He's...probably coming back as we speak." He wondered if he believed himself. It sounded fairly convincing, though he was still just as unsettled about the whole situation.
