His gaze moved to Zoe and well she was no help at all because she was staring at him like he had seven heads and a tail. God he wasn’t that hideous was he! The idea wasn’t that HORRIBLE was it? But he understood on some level. Who wanted to go over to a man’s house, become close with his kids, perhaps a little close with him and suddenly get demanded to have a child with said man by his children? She probably thought it was coming from him! “I assure you,” Colt said as he looked up at her again, “I have nothing to do with this request.” And he didn’t! He wasn’t trying to have more kids. Now if it happened someday because he fell in love again and got married, so be it, but this? NO…NO!
“Colton,” he said firmly but he got the pouted look and there went the tears and the tantrum already started. He wanted a baby sister, he gave Cole things, but not Colton things. He wanted his mommy. Oh….that hurt. Colt’s eyes closed at that and his heart seemed to stop. Colton was good about it, he never said it EXCEPT this time of the year. Once this was passed, he would likely never say it again….at least not until the next year at the same time. But at least he’d have time to prepare for it again. He wasn’t exactly prepared this time.
“Colton,” he tried and there he went just unresponsive to logic, his head buried against Colt’s chest as he cried. He didn’t love him, Zoe didn’t love him. He just wanted a baby sister! He sighed and looked at Zoe apologetically. “Now might be a good time to escape if you’re going to,” he said looking down as he moved his arm to scoop up Colton and hold him against the shoulder, Cole wasn’t occupying. “He’s not going to calm down so you leaving at least won’t be the trigger….I’m so, so sorry. I didn’t put this in his head, I promise, and he doesn’t know what he’s saying. Please don’t think badly of my child or me.”
