WHO: Anyone who came to the Remembrance Baseball Game for a Cause
WHAT: The Game
WHEN: Thursday July 21st, 6PM onwards
WHERE: The Academy's Baseball Field
WARNINGS: Smack Talk
For the past few months Jasper had been setting up all the details to pull together this event like he has every year for the past five years. It's held on one of the baseball fields at the Academy. VOLUNTEER ONE sold tickets at the gate while VOLUNTEER TWO checked tickets and told them what direction to go in based on where their seat was. The two teams were playing against each other to get 75% of the ticket proceeds to go to the charity their team represented. Jasper Sampson Spencer (P) captained the team playing for WOODSBRIDGE HOSPITAL. His teammates are Nora Carson (RF), Emerson Gage (CF), Roz Gotti (2B), Aure Hyeong (SS), Faith Hyland (TBD), Liam McIntyre (1B), Rachel McKenzie (LF), Eddie Spencer (C), Finley Sterling (3B), Gavin Sterling (3B) and Jillian Vaughan (RF). Before taking your seats you could see small set ups from company's that sponsored the event. Among them was THATCHER SECURITY SOLUTIONS that was hosting a Summers '16 tent to hand, manned by ZACHARY THATCHER. Add other tents under the appropriate header below! Past the sponsor tents there were concession that had donated their time and goods to be sold for their money to be split evenly between the charities. PIPPA CARSON and BELLAMY MCINTYRE were in charge of setting it up and collecting the money from each of the concession vendors at the end of the game. The team playing for Woodsbridge Hospital, led by Jasper, was the home team. As such, they took to the field first. While Marty’s team, playing for Caring for Kids, was up at bat first. The first inning started off strong with JAIME FREEMAN taking two bases with their first hit. The Woodsbridge Hospital team is often just this close to catching many balls in the outfield, causing many groans from their supporters in the stands. However, they close out the top of the first when ROZ GOTTI catches an infield fly. They make up for the balls they missed and then some by getting 15 runs, putting them up 15-12. During the second inning when ORI KIM is up at bat VOLUNTEER 3 (SPECTATOR) starts a section-wide chant like the good cheerleader that they are. At the bottom of the second NORA CARSON gets a home run, tying the score 19-19, just before JILLIAN VAUGHAN is struck out by JACK DANBY. The third inning is tense after FAITH HYLAND and CALDER FULLERTON get into a heated argument about whether the ball was foul or fair. There is booing from the Woodsbridge Hospital fans when KIT GREENE steals a base, causing more arguments in the field. The inning finishes with the Woodsbridge Hospital team trailing by one point, 29-28. In a surprising turn of events each team gets the same amount of runs in the fourth (6 runs each) and fifth (16 runs each) innings. People seated near the field can distinctly hear EMERSON GAGE singing ‘PUT ME IN COACH!’. At the top of the sixth the score stands at 51-50. The Caring for Kids team comes out strong, their first three players at bat getting to base followed by MARTY SOLVERSON hitting a grandslam, getting all of them and himself home. However, the sixth inning is where is where it all starts to go downhill for the Woodsbridge Hospital team when the coordinated force of SUMNER GRACE (Catcher), MATIAS RODRIGUEZ (Second Base), and OWEN SONG (First Base) manage a double play getting RACHEL MCKENZIE and AURE HYEONG out at second and first. The sixth inning closes with Caring for Kids up 65-52. JASPER SAMPSON SPENCER gives his team a much needed pep talk between innings, telling them they can definitely come back from this. JEMMA SAMPSON SPENCER is up at bat when EDDIE SPENCER makes a run towards foul territory before the ball and bat even make contact and catches it smoothly. The team representing Caring for Kids still manages 7 runs in their last inning while the Woodsbridge Hospital team is only able to make 1 run. Caring for Kids wins the game & 75% of the proceeds! |
