Although many things had changed as the years had melted away this week, others hadn’t. Marty had never known Noel during his college years, but here they were competing over something other than a sparring match. Certain skills never really went away, they were always restored with practice, and it turned out that flip cup was one of them. Marty may have smirked when Noel’s turn came up but there was a distinct groan somewhere to his left. Though he didn’t turn he dragged his eyes away from the table long enough to bark, “Go play something else if you’re not any good at this.” “Yeah, kid, stay in your own lane,” Noel added, as she crossed her arms in her impatience. Turning her attention back to the real game, she barely lifted a finger before the cup flipped in a solid arc, landing squarely on the table. “Amateurs,” she rolled her eyes at Marty. A laugh accompanied the eyeroll and despite the comment the next kid who stepped up to take his turn had a cocky look about him. Marty turned to Noel instead of heckling, but the temptation was still there. “What else do you play?” This was an arena that they hadn’t competed in before, drinking games were a new frontier. “Are we talking shitty drinking games or like, sports?” Noel raised an eyebrow. “Because if we’re talking drinking games, then Stump, Caps, Quarters. Fuck beer pong.” “Shitty drinking games,” Marty clarified before adding. “What’s wrong with beer pong?” “It’s gross.” Noel wrinkled her nose. “Like hell I’m drinking anything out of a cup that had a pong ball that’s been rolling around on a frat house floor and who knows where else.” “I never thought about that,” Marty admitted with a slight grimace that was soon shrugged off. His eyes flicked back towards the table as the next person stepped up to take their turn. “So what about you?” she asked. “Let me guess, beer darts?” “Only when I feel like seeing everyone else get completely shitfaced.” Which was a nice way of saying, most people didn’t want to play with him anymore. “Looking out for the greater good, I see.” Noel raised a brow. “Surely there’s got to be other games you play?” “Always,” he smirked. “Just quarters, beer pong, and flip cup. Oh, and never have I ever.” “Well, never have I ever played quarters with you before, so what say we wait for these people to learn how to flip a cup, and then break out the quarters?” |
