WHO: Your hosts Sam White Horn and Poppy Adams, people filtered in this entry, and anyone else who felt like coming for the last party of the summer. WHEN: Sunday, September 4 WHERE: The White Horn residence SUMMARY: Barbecue and outdoor movie WARNINGS: None! STATUS: In progress NOTE: Going up a day early so everyone has time to post and do their thing~
The last party of summer was held at the White Horn residence. Not Samâs apartment, but his parentsâ house, with the big backyard, killer swing set, a trampoline, and lots of space for everyone to spread out and be comfortable. The White Horns had a big stack of blankets and pillows available for anyone who didnât bring their own. Around the bonfire were all of their lawn chairs, with a table in front completely stocked with marshmallows, chocolate, skewers, and graham crackers. There was also a sundae bar for anyone needing something a little cooler.
The winner of their movie poll is Dirty Dancing, but rest easy, Wet Hot American Summer fans! There will be a showing of the second one for anyone who wants to stick around.
For dinner, grab a plate and dig in! There was a spread of your typical barbecue staples: burgers, hot dogs, rolls, ketchup and mustard, a big fruit salad, and some corn on the cob. Anyone who brought something for the party was welcome to put it here, too. JAMESON COOPER declares himself the grill king after successfully making the âperfectâ burger, and takes it upon himself to make a new hotdog for VOLUNTEER 2, who drops theirs before taking a bite. And then thereâs VOLUNTEER 3 who shows up without any (obscure condiment of choice) and has to ask YULIA KUKLACHOVA to share.
Sam and Poppy made sure they had plenty of water bottles and soda options for people who didnât want to drink, but for those who did, there was a cooler full of beers and a few bottles of wine. VOLUNTEER 5 is disappointed to find no beer pong table in sight, but manages to console themselves by camping out near the coolers for the duration of the evening. Itâs BYOB, anyway. Not their fault someone didnât come prepared.
VOLUNTEER 6 makes a beeline for the trampoline immediately upon arrival and tries to do really a really impressive front flip they saw during the Olympics but just fell on their face instead. VOLUNTEER 7 seizes this opportunity to film it and later post to YouTube so everyone would be able to rewatch it tomorrow.
Theyâd set up the movie screen (aka a spare bedsheet) and projector before everyone arrived with the help of Mr. White Horn, but they didnât start the movie until it started to get dark out and people had had a chance to settle down and socialize a little. GABE JENKINS falls asleep very shortly into the movie and starts snoring, and, of course, like the loyal friends they are, LEDA STAVROS and BILLY SINCLAIR decorate GABE'S face with whipped cream. VOLUNTEER 11 steals several blankets to make a fort and starts charging admission to enter, whereas VOLUNTEER 12 was proactive and brought their own triple lawn chair and offers a seat to anyone who doesnât feel like sitting on the ground the whole time.
About half-way through the movie, VOLUNTEER 13 trips over the power cable after coming back from the bathroom, and accidentally cuts off the movie until MAEVE KEENER plugs them back in a few seconds later. Luckily it didn't take too long to find the place they'd stopped at, so no one boos too loudly. As the night continues, MARCO DE FIORE decides to go over and make a few sâmores, only to be engaged in an epic sword fight by ELLA SUMMERS. After a brave and not-at-all-ridiculously-lame battle complete with pirate sound effects, (the loser) has to go in and ask Mrs. White Horn for a bandaid. She scolds them but gives them a hug before sending them back out to finish the movie.
At least BONE doesnât burn his marshmallows, though, unlike JORDAN THOMAS who tries to play it cool and act like he likes burnt marshmallows. But everyone knows he's lying.
VOLUNTEER 19 gets really excited about the last dance scene in Dirty Dancing, and tries to rush over to VOLUNTEER 20 to dance with them, but gets tangled up in the swing set and needs help getting down, only to reach VOLUNTEER 20 as the song ends.
During the second movie, some people make their goodbyes, but a lot of people also stay, just to hang out and enjoy not having school tomorrow. MARI GREEN AND HARRIETT CARROLL reclaim the trampoline and spend their time alternately between throwing popcorn at each other and giggling hysterically at something only they find funny. NORA CARSON AND KIT GREENE are still content to hang out under their blanket. NORA has a silly smile on her face because she loves this movie, while KIT is taking advantage of her distraction and stealing chocolate chips off her sundae when NORA isnât looking.
The night starts winding down, and after the second movieâs over, people start leaving for real, although anyone who isnât in good shape to drive or just doesnât feel like it is welcome to stay over and crash for an impromptu camp out. And, surprise, if you did, Mrs. White Horn will give you pancakes as long as you help clean up the backyard in the morning.
