“Okay, I think that’s the last one,” Sam panted, doing his best to place the box on the ground without breaking its contents, but Jesus, it was heavy. He straightened up and closed his eyes, relishing the cool air circulating. “Air conditioning,” he sighed reverently. Poppy on the other hand dropped a much lighter box down next to it. “I may have over packed that one,” she said sheepishly. She had been in the apartment many times before, but it felt different bringing her own boxes into the mix. Soon she would be moving on in officially and sleep here and it made it all feel a little different. She flicked off her sandals and dropped her bag. “So, continue on with The Office or pick a movie?” “I’ll send you the bill from my chiropractor,” Sam deadpanned, and then moved out into the living room as he considered Poppy’s question. “Hmmm,” he said loudly, plopping down onto the couch. “The Office is a classic, but I also wouldn’t say no to a change of pace. You know me. I’m easy to please.” Sam shrugged. Poppy followed him to the living room a little flustered, “Did carrying that box really hurt your back?” She said nervously, she would feel horrible if it had. “Cause if so I’ll have to make it up to you.” “Movie then? Have you seen Fundamentals of Caring yet?” Poppy asked before plopping herself down on the couch. Sam chuckled. “I’m fine, Poppy. Just messing with you.” He shook his head. “No, actually. I don’t think I’ve even heard of it.” “That was mean,” she smiled to show she was not entirely serious. “And good cause I may need your help lifting one the day.” “Well, it is a Netflix Original, Paul Rudd. Selena Gomez.” Poppy didn’t really know much more about it than that. He gave a mock-salute. “Aye, aye, captain.” Sam listened to Poppy and pulled up the movie on Netflix to read the synopsis. “Sounds good. I’m game.” He pressed play and spread a blanket over both of them. “Great,” she said as she settled in curling up next to Sam as he spread a blanket over them. “Thanks for today,” she said quietly. “Thanks for coming,” Sam looked over at Poppy with a small, genuine smile, and moved his arm around her shoulders to keep her close. Poppy went from half looking up at Sam as his arm moved around her to focusing on the movie as it began. She thought if she got to do this more regular as part of moving in here, that it was the best decision she could have made. |
