Attention, passengers of the abduction train: I'm looking for an imaginary beastie that answers to 'Tinkerbell.' A small boy has taken up residence in my cabin and I'm afraid he's convinced that fairies do, in fact, exist.

If you see a little spot of reflected light or hear bells, be careful about where you step. The child has a sword.

... I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you.

I do believe in fairies, I do, I do!

I feel that this has passed beyond 'preposterous' and into 'I must be hallucinating.'

This whole train trip or the fairy thing specifically? I can make arguments for both

Both, but the fairy/child situation specifically.

Guess i should be glad my prepubescent roommate has a dog and isn't talking about fairies.

Dog thing. Not really a dog.

There's another child on the train? I met a remarkable little girl, but I didn't realize there were so many others.

You know, I was going to protest this, but ... I think a lot of us are that way, huh? One way or another.

Fair enough, and a good observation. I only hope the number of adolescents stays small. What will we do with a train full of children?

There's a child here? And you're making fun of him?

I'm skeptical of him and his claims, yes, but by all means - if you see any fairies, please let me know and I'll pass along the message. I'm sure he'll be delighted.

I certainly will - but if your "reflected light" fairies are anything like nightwisps, they won't be found here.

Very well, I'll bite - what's a nightwisp?

A night wisp is a small, blue creature whose voice sounds a little like a chime, to anyone who doesn't understand their language; they have powerful magic, and given time can find just about anything in the world.

Well, in my world.

He has a sword. I suspect he thinks I'm a pirate because I suggested that he not run with it.

I may also be a little old for smiley-faces. I will, however, tell him the rest of it.

As stupid as this might sound, there's a very good chance his Tinkerbell is real. Faeries do exist, but not all of them are the nice kind from stories.

At any rate, I've got a little kid as a room mate too (Maxine). She might not have a fairy, but she's got a really interesting cat-thing.
